  • Patent number: 7639749
Abstract: A method for improving the performance of OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) systems addresses the channel estimation, equalization and decoding problems of conventional techniques and provides improved performance in a wide range of operating conditions that include varying Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) levels, data rates, and fading channels. • Patent number: 7640157
Abstract: A technique to enhance audio quality of a quantized audio signal when a perceptual audio coder is operating at low bit rates. The perceptual audio coder uses a modified two-loop quantization technique that maintains audio quality at medium to high bit rates while eliminating artifacts at low bit rates. The perceptual audio coder saves vanishing bands by stealing bits from surviving bands to reduce artifacts at low bit rates.

  • Patent number: 7634776
Abstract: A method for designing a multi-threaded processing operation that includes, e.g., multimedia encoding/decoding, uses an architecture having multiple processors and optional hardware accelerators. The method includes the steps of: identifying a desired chronological sequence of processing stages for processing input data including identifying interdependencies of said processing stages; allotting each said processing sage to a processor; staggering the processing to accommodate the interdependencies; selecting a processing operation based on said allotting to arrive at a subset of possible pipelines that offer low average processing time; and, choosing one design pipeline from said subset to result in overall timing reduction to complete said processing operation. The invention provides a multi-threaded processing pipeline that is applicable in a System-on-Chip (SoC) using a DSP and shared resources such as DMA controller and on-chip memory, for increasing the throughput.

  • Patent number: 7630367
Abstract: A method and algorithm for IP address lookup for packet forwarding, finds a longest prefix match for a destination address of n bits, using 2n/2 entries in a lookup table, expanding a given IP address to be matched if its prefix length is more than n/2, and, completing a lookup operation using the table. The number ā€˜nā€ may be 32 or otherwise. An example teaches an IP address lookup table with a maximum address size of 32 bits, using a lookup table with 216 entries. Further, if an IP prefix length is more than 16 bits, then the given address to be matched is expanded to its full prefix length before the lookup operation. The algorithm takes only two memory references for specific hardware, such as IXP1200. For generic hardware, it takes only three memory references. Also taught is a computer readable medium having the method encoded therein.

  • Patent number: 7511713
Abstract: The proposed technique provides simultaneous read and writes from a display controller using low-cost SDRAMs. This is achieved, in one example embodiment, by receiving a sequence of video frames at a first variable frame rate. A first video frame is then written in a first single-ported memory. The first video frame is then read from the first single-ported memory upon completing the writing of the first video frame in the first single-ported memory. The reading of the first video frame is then repeated from the first single-ported memory to maintain a second frame rate. The second frame rate is higher than the first variable frame rate. A second video frame is then written in a second single-ported memory upon completing the writing of the first video frame in the first single-ported memory such that the writing of the first video frame and the second video frame is at the first variable frame rate.

  • Patent number: 7474147
Abstract: A method and apparatus for a frequency shift keying (FSK) demodulator use a configuration to improve the autocorrelation for better receiver performance. The demodulator uses parallel first and second lines connected to the same input signal, the first line having a delay element to provide an integer-delay of M, the second parallel line having a filter for causing a group delay of ?+M where ? is fractional, and a multiplier for receiving the signals from said first and second lines and generating a resultant signal from which a base band signal can be recovered. The resultant signal is passed through a low pass base band filter to recover the base band signal. ? may have a value of 3.25 and M may be 6. The demodulator may selectively be implemented in caller ID service and in low end modems chosen from a group comprising V.21, Bell 103, V.23 and Bell 202A modems.

  • Patent number: 7463681
Abstract: A decision feedback equalizer (DFE) has an inter symbol interference (ISI) loop and inter chip interference (ICI) loop. A buffer at the input of the DFE loop receives a (CCK based data rate) signal coming into the DFE, retains a predetermined number of chips from each incoming symbol and assists to meet timing requirements by chip management. An outgoing rate for the chips from the buffer may depend on the incoming rate and may be higher than the incoming rate by a known factor. A method of designing a configuration for the DFE takes into consideration the timing delay in the loops. The operation within the DFE loop is pipelined, and any latency due to the pipelining is handled at a CCK demodulator. A method for designing the DFE architecture and an article comprising a storage medium with instructions thereon for executing the method, are also disclosed.
