Abstract: In-situ monitoring of a crystallization state is used for laser anneal processing for applying an energy line irradiation for at least one of crystallization of a thin film and promotion of the crystallization. A method is characterized by simultaneously irradiating at least a plurality of monitoring places in a region having a predetermined area of at least one of the surface and the underside of the thin film by a monitor light for monitoring a crystallization state of the thin film at least during or after of before, during and after the energy line irradiation directly or through a substrate, and measuring a temporal change of the intensity of at least one of a reflected light and a transmitted light, from the surface or the underside of the thin film, of the monitor light as a light intensity distribution related to the positions of the monitoring places. Apparatus according to the invention perform such methods.
Abstract: A haptic mouse interface system includes a mouse, a first force feedback unit for providing a first force feedback in a first direction of a virtual object to the user's hand and arm, a second force feedback unit for providing a second force feedback in second and third directions to the user's fingers, and a tactile feedback unit for providing tactile sensations to the user's fingers. The first force feedback unit has first and second encoders to receive signals relating to a first direction of the virtual object, first and second motors driven by the first and second encoders, and a linkage, which is connected between shafts of the first and second motors and the mouse. The second force feedback unit is provided in the mouse, and has a third encoder to receive a signal relating to the second and third directions of the virtual object, a third motor driven by the third encoder and having a shaft, a pair of finger pads provided at both sides of the mouse and linearly moved by the third motor.

Abstract: A beam multiplier includes a beam-multiplying layer and an adjacent optical layer. The beam-multiplying layer is operable to generate output beamlets of light from an input beam of light, and the optical layer has an adjustable index of refraction. By switching the index of refraction of the optical layer between first and second values, one can switch the beam multiplier to a first state (e.g., “on”) where it generates the output beamlets of light, and can switch the beam multiplier to a second state (e.g., “off”) where it passes the input beam of light but does not generate the output beamlets. And by using the beam multiplier as an exit-pupil expander, one can switch the exit-pupil expander to a first state where it generates multiple exit-pupil images, and to a second state where it generates only a single exit-pupil image.
Abstract: Disclosed are apparatus for forming a semiconductor film having an excellent crystallinity from a non-single crystal semiconducting layer formed on a base layer made of an insulating material. The apparatus includes a light source, a homogenizer for homogenizing an intensity distribution of the emitted light, an amplitude-modulation means for performing the amplitude-modulation such that the amplitude of the light, of which the intensity distribution is homogenized, is increased in the direction of the relative motion of the light to the base layer, an optional light projection optical system for projecting the amplitude-modulated light onto the surface of the non-single crystal semiconductor such that a predetermined irradiation energy can be obtained, a phase shifter for providing a low temperature point in the surface irradiated by the light, and a substrate stage to move the light relative to the substrate thereby enabling scanning in the X and Y axis.

Abstract: A method and system for making error corrections on digital information coded as symbol sequences, for example digital information stored in electronic memory systems or transmitted from and to these systems is described, provides the transmission of sequences incorporating a portion of error corrector code allowing the sequence which is more probably the original transmitted through the calculation of an error syndrome using a parity matrix to be restored when received. Advantageously according to embodiments of the invention, the error code incorporated in the original sequence belongs to a non Boolean group.
Abstract: A system and method generate a pulse width modulated signal having variable duty cycle resolution. A hardware uses minimal hardware to improve the PWM duty cycle resolution up to 0, such that highest possible resolution of a waveform can be obtained, including a sine wave. An embodiment of the invention uses a microcontroller, a divide by W counter, a delay circuit, a flip-flop, and a logic gate.

Abstract: Disclosed herein is a method of precisely correcting geometrically distorted satellite images. In order to correct a geometrically distorted satellite image, the position and attitude of a satellite must be accurately recognized. In this case, a correlation between the position and attitude values of the satellite exists, so accurate position and attitude values cannot be obtained. Therefore, the present invention accurately obtains position and attitude information of the satellite by separating variables having a high correlation to minimize the correlation between the position and attitude of the satellite and then calculating corresponding variables, and precisely corrects a geometrically distorted satellite image using the position and attitude information of the satellite.

Abstract: A carrier tracking circuit includes a first phase adjustment circuit coupled to an input of a delay element and a second phase adjustment circuit coupled to an output of the delay element. A phase correction circuit is coupled to output of the delay element is operable to generate a phase adjustment value based upon a data symbol output from the delay element. The phase correction circuit includes a double phase correction circuit to prevent double application of the same phase adjustment value to a symbol by both the first and second phase adjustment circuits. The carrier tracking circuit may be used in OFDM communications systems with each data symbol being an OFDM symbol and with the delay element being an FFT. The carrier tracker circuit also may include a feed forward circuit for correcting the phase error of a given data symbol using a phase error generated from that symbol.

Abstract: A biasing structure for a memory cell storage element, for setting an operating voltage at an accession electrode of the memory cell storage element. Abstract: A traction unit capable of traversing and turning on surfaces that include compound curves like the surface of a sphere or are inverted like a ceiling. The traction unit includes a plurality of trucks operable to propel the unit across a surface and a plurality of adherence members operable to releasably secure the unit to the surface. In operation, the adherence members cyclically attach to and release from the surface as the trucks propel the unit across the surface. Within each cycle, after the unit has traveled a predetermined distance relative to an attached member, the member releases the surface and reattaches to the surface at a different point.

Abstract: Embodiments of the invention are directed to a soft shelter extension for use with a hard shelter where the hard shelter has a perimeter opening defined by a side wall and sealable by a deck rotationally coupled thereto, wherein the deck is prevented from over rotating by a pair of opposing cables linking the side wall to the deck. Such embodiments include a bow assembly having a plurality of bows wherein first ends are linkable to each other and second ends are linkable to each other, either directly or indirectly. These embodiments further include a pair of cable slide interfaces linked to respective first and second ends of the plurality of bows to receive the respective pair of cables. A flexible panel covers the bow assembly, and mates to the side wall and to the deck to form an enclosed space when the deck is rotated to a position wherein the cables are in tension.
