  • Patent number: 5454604
Abstract: A vortex gasket for automotive exhaust system, preferably used with a special flange having a conical seal surface, is formed by spirally overlaying a metal hoop (2) of flat strip, and an inorganic filler (3) of tape form, and annularly spot welding a winding start portion (2a) and a winding end portion (2b) of the hoop (2) to itself. The tape form of the inorganic filler is wider than the flat strip of the metal hoop so that edges of the inorganic filler form seal contact surfaces spaced beyond edges of the metal hoop. When an external force is applied in the axial direction, slipping occurs between the hoop (2) and the filler (3), and the gasket is telescopically deformed in the axial direction, so that the seal contact surfaces 1a, 1b, at sides of the gasket, are formed in a conical shape.

  • Patent number: 5452601
Abstract: A heating sensor capable of generating heat and measuring its own temperature is placed in a fluid and a thermometric sensor is placed in the fluid and inside a temperature boundary layer formed around the heating sensor upon heat generation therefrom. A temperature of the heating sensor and a temperature of the fluid are measured. A relationship between thermal conductivity of the fluid and a differential value between the temperature of the heating sensor and the temperature of the fluid is used to determine the thermal conductivity of the fluid. Then, the heating value of the heating sensor is adjustably increased so that the thermometric sensor is positioned outside the temperature boundary layer. A temperature of the heating sensor and the temperature of the fluid are measured. The relationship between kinematic viscosity of the fluid and a differential value between the temperature of the heating sensor and the temperature of the fluid is used to determine the kinematic viscosity of the fluid.

  • Patent number: 5450768
Abstract: In a tractor transmission system having electro-hydraulically actuated powershift clutches and a forward/reverse coupler mechanically coupled to a forward/reverse lever, a dump button is provided on the lever for releasing powershift clutch pressure. The forward/reverse coupler is uncoupled from the transmission input and output shafts when the button is depressed. An operator may shift between forward and reverse gears by depressing the button and shifting the lever. Upon release of the dump button, a microprocessor performs a control algorithm during which it senses engine speed and ground speed, computes acceleration/deceleration, and controls the clutch pressure of one of the powershift clutches to provide smooth acceleration in the direction selected by the shift lever. The arrangement is particularly suited for shuttle shift (forward/reverse) operations but may be used to provide smooth acceleration from a stopped position.

Each sensing element is disposed such that the magnetic field produced by two adjacent magnets is normal to the plane of the sensing element. In addition the sensing elements are disposed in a plurality of planes all normal to the crop feed path. However, the sensing elements are disposed in planes oriented at different angles relative to the direction of crop feed.

  • Patent number: 5443274
Abstract: A stationary sealing ring (6) surrounds a rotatable shaft (2) and is fitted to, and held by, a cylindrical guide (1a) of a seal case (1). An extremely small clearance is provided between the outer peripheral surface (6b) of the stationary sealing ring and the inner peripheral surface (1c) of the guide. This small clearance prevents radial displacement of the ring but allows the ring to move in the axial direction and permits the passage of a fluid. Because the sealing ring is held without the use of a holding ring or an O-ring, the concentricity and parallelism of the stationary sealing ring to a rotary sealing ring (3) can be continuously maintained despite pressure fluctuations. Clearance between the stationary sealing ring and a holding ring (4) is maintained by an O-ring (9) held in an annular dovetail groove (10) formed in a surface (4c) of the holding ring facing the stationary sealing ring.
