  • Patent number: 5520491
Abstract: A drill screw of the type suitable for fastening a sheet or plate to a lightweight steel frame member comprises a head portion, a threaded portion adjacent the head portion, a drill shaft portion adjacent the threaded portion, a large diameter drill portion adjacent the drill shaft portion, and a small diameter drill portion adjacent the large diameter drill portion. The small diameter drill portion has a smaller drill angle than the large diameter drill portion thus providing improved bite so that less thrusting force is required and the tendency to skid and drift is reduced.

  • Patent number: 5516171
Abstract: A self-locking swivel stacking pin tool (10) includes an elongated handle (12) having a handgrip (18) at a hand end thereof and a pin-housing engaging member (20) at a pin end thereof. A locking-head actuator (14) has an elongated force-transmittal portion (46) slidably extending along an elongated shaft (16) of the elongated handle, with a trigger (14) at a hand end thereof and a locking-head rotator (50) at a pin end thereof for engaging a bottom swivel locking head (38). By moving the trigger relative to the handgrip an operator can cause a rotatable axle (40) of a swivel stacking pin to rotate and thereby cause a top swivel locking head (36) to rotate and align with a top housing insert section (28) so that the top swivel locking head and the top housing insert section can be inserted into a hole (13a) of a cargo container (13) by manipulation of the swivel stacking pin tool.

  • Patent number: 5515278
Abstract: A circuit has circuit amplifiers (T1, T2) and inductive loads (MV1, MV2) with the circuit amplifiers being controlled by control signals provided by a microcomputer (MC). The circuit accomplishes this control while monitoring a load circuit, comprised of the circuit amplifiers and the loads, and terminates control of the circuit amplifiers, without assistance of the controlling microcomputer, upon occurrence of incorrect voltages in the load circuit. Thus, the circuit of this invention allows particularly fast termination of control of the load circuit upon the appearances of critical voltages and also allows the monitoring of the load circuits by the microcomputer in a particularly uncomplicated manner.

  • Patent number: 5515245
Abstract: A lamp (5) is mounted from a rear side of a motor vehicle headlight in an opening (4) at a crown of a reflector (3) of the headlight. A socket (6) of the lamp has a surrounding flange (11) with radial positioning ears (12) extending outwardly therefrom. The opening of the reflector is surrounded by an attaching ring (15) made of resinous-plastic and having spring tongues (16) formed thereon. The positioning ears of the lamp, can be moved between the tongues and the lamp can be screwed about its length axis so as to interengage the positioning ears with the spring tongues. In an end position of the lamp, the spring tongues lie biased against the positioning ears, pressing the flange of the lamp against a seating surface (26) which is formed on an inner rim portion of the attaching ring. The inner rim portion is arranged between the spring tongues and the reflector, to be spaced from the spring tongues.

  • Patent number: 5501470
Abstract: In a non-contacting shaft sealing device of the type wherein a sealing end face of a case seal and a sealing end face of a rotary shaft seal rotate relative to each other in a non-contacting state while being separated by a film of fluid derived from the high pressure region being sealed, one sealing end face is provided with an even number of dynamic pressure generating groove groups arranged in the peripheral direction on the sealing end face. Each dynamic pressure generating groove group has plural approximately L-shaped linear dynamic pressure generating grooves each composed of a fluid lead-in part extending in the radial direction from the peripheral edge of the sealing end face so as to communicate with the high pressure region, and a dynamic pressure generating part extending in the peripheral direction from the end portion of the fluid lead-in part with the dynamic pressure generating grooves not crossing each other and being arranged in the radial direction.

  • Patent number: 5501912
Abstract: The invention relates to a material in the form of a strip having a stiffening corrugation thereon. The corrugation consists of ridges and valleys therebetween which form arcs over the breadth of the corrugation zone. The corrugations form a wave pattern propagating in the longitudinal direction of the strip. The waves have no straight sections, and the relationship between the thickness of the strip T and the corrugation depth A is 0.5T<A<2T. In addition, the height of the arcs is at least as large as the wave length of the waves propagating in the Y-direction and alternating in the Z-direction.

  • Patent number: 5497171
Abstract: An electronic display arrangement comprises at least one electro-optical display means, as for example a liquid crystal cell, a certain number of elementary patterns associated with the electro-optical display means, such elementary patterns for the most part conforming to and being based on a series of stylized and selected alpha-numeric characters in the form of a composite mosaic-type structure the grid of which is formed by the patterns which exhibit heterogeneous and complementary contours arranged so as to nest into one another in a manner similar to that of a puzzle, the arrangement being characterized in that the mosaic is divided up by optically passive bands which partially cover over certain of the elementary patterns and form a cutup of the mosaic. The electronic display arrangement is applicable to panels for displaying alpha-numeric characters for the visualization of messages in public places such as railway or airport halls.

  • Patent number: 5495929
Abstract: An apparatus for validating bank notes and other valuable documents having magnetic characteristics which provide a predefined signature. The validator comprises a receptor for receiving a bank note. The bank note is inserted in the receptor and pulled through a passage-way which includes magnetic and optical sensing chambers. The magnetic sensing chamber includes a sensor and a magnetic head for generating a magnetic field. When the bank note passes through the magnetic sensing chamber, the magnetic characteristics of the bank note affect the magnetic field and the sensor produces an output signal corresponding to the magnetic field. The validator includes a processor which processes the output signal to produce a bank note frequency value correlated to the signature of the bank note. The processor validates the bank note by comparing the frequency value to a base-line frequency value and determining the deviation from the base-line value.

  • Patent number: 5495947
Abstract: A bingo box (10) comprises substantially identical first and second relatively rigid containers (12, 14) each having a hinged angled panel (38) for providing a working angled surface (36) with clamps (48) at one end thereof. The first container includes a right hinge means at an intersection of its tapered right edge wall (20) and base sidewall (16) and the second container including a left hinge means at an intersection of its tapered left edge wall and base sidewall. The right and left complementary hinge elements are selectively engagable with one another for allowing the first and second containers to rotate relative to one another between a carrying configuration in which the base sidewalls are adjacent one another and a working configuration in which the base and work sidewalls (18) are approximately coplanar to one another. Storage spaces can be accessed via the hinged angled panels when the containers are in both the carrying configuration and the working configuration.
