Abstract: A depthometer having an outer waterproof casing provided with a transparent wall through which a graduated dial is visible, an indicator element movable along said dial, and an actuating element for said indicator, this actuating element being responsive to external pressure and consisting in an elastically deformable end wall of a cup-shaped member forming part of said outer casing, and a lateral wall of said cup-shaped member being stiffened to be indeformable with said end wall.BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTIONThis invention relates to a depthometer for underwater immersion.
Abstract: A radiant heater is provided with a fuel-fired radiant housed in a combustion chamber having a wall with a radiation-transmissive panel. A plenum adjacent the combustion chamber is provided with air under pressure greater than that in the combustion chamber. Air from the plenum is employed as primary combustion air for the fuel-fired radiant, and air from the plenum also is caused to flow cocurrently into the combustion chamber and to provide adjacent the inner surface of the radiation-transmissive panel a constantly replenished pool or cushion of cool air cooling the panel and providing a buffer layer to prevent impingement of hot combustion product gases thereon. The orientation of the heater within a space to be heated may be varied within limits without adversely affecting its operation, and the heater may be made of small size.
Abstract: A liquid dispenser having a liquid flow duct through which liquid may flow from a liquid source into a battery or the like. The dispenser includes a light-transmitting portion adjacent the flow duct to produce a visual indication of the surface elevation of a pool of liquid into which the liquid flows. Available light at the outer end of the light-transmitting portion passes in and through the latter to a reflective, inner end of the light-transmitting portion and is then reflected back out to provide a visual indication that the reflective end is not immersed in the pool of liquid. When the level of the pool has risen to immerse the reflective end, the available light reaching the reflective end is refracted into the liquid, and immersion is indicated by the relative absence of reflection.
Abstract: A pressure gauge having a cup-shaped case closed by a transparent cover, through which a graduated scale and a pointer movable therealong are visible, the cover being mounted rotatably on the case in an axial fixed position with respect thereto.
Abstract: A container for tape cassettes of the type which have broad flat surfaces adjoining a longitudinal edge through which the tape is exposed; and wherein the cassette has broad rib-like trapezoidal bosses on each of the broad flat surfaces of the cassette; a container for such cassettes with a slide to carry the cassette into and out of the housing, the bottom wall, whether it be on the housing or the slide, having an opening to receive the trapezoidal boss of the cassette; and the top wall may also have an opening to receive the adjacent trapezoidal boss of the cassette; the carrier slide having guiding means at its opposite sides to guide with the housing at a location outwardly beyond the ends of the bosses on the cassette.

Abstract: A flexible element for spectacle-frames, in particular a flexible bar for spectacles, comprising a chain of articulated elements traversed by a deformable longitudinal core arranged to hold them together is described. The chain of articulated elements comprises at least one articulated element formed substantially by a portion of a body of revolution defined by surfaces which are obtained by envelope from a generating plane figure which is made to rotate about an axis parallel and external to the figure itself.
Abstract: A positioner for automatically positioning a farm implement, such as a sugar beet harvester, in line with rows of crops such as sugar beets and for automatically maintaining the height of the implement relative to the ground surface. The positioner includes a harness pivotal about an upright axis, and a pair of crop and ground level sensing shoes mounted to the harness pivotally to permit the trailing ends of the shoes to swing vertically and horizontally. Hydraulic controls respond to swinging of the shoes vertically (as when the height of the implement varies) and horizontally (as when the implement strays toward one side or the other of a crop row) and return the implement to its correct vertical and side-to-side alignment with the crop row.
Abstract: A housing with one side open to form an entrance for a tape cassette, a slider within the housing and movable toward and away from the entrance, a spring pressing the slider toward the entrance, a latch retaining the spring cassette in the housing against the pressure of said spring, reel-retaining inserts for insertion into the hub of the tape spools, the inward and outward movement relative to the spool hubs being controlled by movement of the slider in the housing, in certain instances the insert being mounted on the slider and in other instances the insert being mounted on the housing.

Abstract: A fish line control apparatus in one form includes an upright rod having an outwardly extending and downwardly swinging arm of soft iron magnetic material and having the line releasably attached to the outer end thereof, the rod having a second arm restrained against downward swinging and having a magnet thereon for retaining the first arm against downward swinging, the magnet being adjustable at various positions toward and away from the pivot of the arm to change the leverage tendering to release the first arm from the magnet. In a second form the mounting for the tilting arm forms a handle which may be hand held, and a pair of support legs for holding the tiltable arm up off the ice, and there also being a thumb operated portion of the tiltable arm so as to retain the arm against tilting by the use of a person's thumb to permit jigging of the lure or bait.
Abstract: A tool for adjusting the ignition point assembly of an automotive engine. The tool includes a handle with a hand grip on one end and a hexagonal-headed tool bar pivotally attached to the other end. Rigidifying means are provided to stiffen the pivotal connection so that when the tool is supported horizontally by the bar, the handle will not swing, by its own weight, about the pivotal connection. The tool includes a projection adjacent the hexagonal bar end for lifting the access door of a distributor so that the hexagonal bar end may enter and engage an adjustment screw in the distributor.
Abstract: A tracked, stair-climbing carrier for carrying loads up and down stairs and across floors. The carrier includes a frame mounting a pair of parallel endless tracks at its sides for moving the frame forwardly and rearwardly along a floor and up and down stairs. An upper, load-receiving deck is slideably carried by the frame and is movable forwardly and rearwardly to adjust the center of gravity of the carrier and load and permits the rearward end of the deck to rest upon the floor when the frame has been tilted to an acute angle with the floor.
Abstract: Seed treating and conveying apparatus including a screw conveyor with an auger and an auger shaft operating within the auger tube and driven by a motor, an eccentric or cam rotated in direct relation to the rate of rotation of the auger shaft and operating a reciprocating positive displacement metering pump, the displacement of the impeller rod of the pump being adjustable to vary the quantity of liquid treating material applied to the seed in the auger tube during each revolution of the auger.
Abstract: A wooden stud wall having top and sole plates between which are fastened spaced, upright studs is provided with a brace comprising a metal strap oriented diagonally to the stud wall with the ends of the strap bent over and rigidly fastened as by nailing to respective upper and lower surfaces of the top and sole plates. The strap, which desirably is of 16 gauge steel, and about 2 inches in width, crosses the upright studs at an oblique angle at spaced points along the strap length. The strap may be fastened to the stud wall by nails driven through preformed holes in the strap ends, and may be fastened to the upright studs which it crosses by nails driven through spaced, preformed holes along the length of the strap.
Abstract: A multidirectional grapple for a backhoe unit is disclosed. The backhoe unit includes a boom and a forwardly extending stick pivotally mounted to the boom. A mounting base is pivotally mounted to the forward end of the stick, and the grapple assembly includes a back jaw mounted to the base through a rotatable hydraulic system. The back jaw has pivotally attached to it a hydraulically powered forward jaw with the back and forward jaws being so oriented as to open widely forwardly of the backhoe unit, and to rotate as a unit toward one side or the other so as to bite horizontally into a building or the like. The jaws have arcuate, opposing tines which interleave with one another to crush debris between them. The tines of the back jaw extend downwardly and outwardly of the mounting base in position to rake the ground of debris. The mounting base is hydraulically powered and is pivotal about a horizontal axis transverse of the stick to raise and lower the jaws as a unit.
