Abstract: An optical display presenting a display field at least one digit in a seven segment arrangement, a stack of seven plate elements for each digit and arranged in a stack, a single light source directing light into the light inlet ends of all of the seven plates, a movable shutter element wth transparent and opaque areas movable across the light source and light inlets of the plates, each plate having a chamfered edge portion remote from the light inlet end and reflecting light transversely of the plate and onto the display field.

Abstract: A sealing device arranged to provide the seal for a fluid, in particular a liquid, between an ambient and the inside of a cavity comprised between a stationary member and a rotating member is described.The main feature of this sealing device is that it comprises two annular sealing elements, each of which has a plane annular surface substantially orthogonal to the axis of rotation of the rotating member and a cylindrical side surface orthogonal to the said plane annular surface, one of the said sealing elements being rigidly connected to the stationary member and the other to the rotating member, the said two plane annular surfaces being coupled and axial thrust means being provided which are arranged to keep coupled the said plane annular surfaces with a predetermined pressure, the said two cylindrical side surfaces of the two sealing elements having the same diameter and being substantially coincident.

Abstract: In a machine for packaging articles, in particular cigarettes, an apparatus for folding cutout elements to obtain packets of the hinged-lid type, the apparatus comprising a drum adapted to rotate in a stepped manner and having peripheral recesses each adapted to receive a respective article and to displace the same along a plurality of folding stations, at the first of said stations a first folding operation being performed by simultaneously inserting said articles and the respective cutout elements into the respective recesses; at the last of said stations a last folding operation being performed by ejecting said articles and the respective cutout elements through an aperture; and the intermediate stations comprising fixed cam means engaging said cutout elements during movement of said drum, and mobile folding means engaging said cutout elements when the drum is stationary.

Abstract: An attachment running board for light trucks comprising a depending mounting panel and a separate horizontal deck, both of extruded aluminum and attached to each other in an insert and socket connection, open bottom channels beneath the deck and flat-surfaced square-headed bolts attaching the channels to the transverse frame arms secured to the frame of the truck and accommodating attaching at any of a multiplicity of locations along the length of the deck to the frame arms without requiring any drilling of the deck.

Abstract: A hydraulic shear for a backhoe. The backhoe includes a boom and a forwardly extending stick pivotally mounted to the boom. The hydraulic shear pivotally mounts on the forward end of the stick and includes a first forward shear blade, an opposing second configured forward shear blade, and a configured rearward shear blade which is pivoted to interleave between the first and second forward shear blades. The configured rearward shear blade of the hydraulic shear is mounted so that force from a hydraulic cylinder acting against the configured rearward shear blade is transferred by a factor of two to at least one point on the curvature of the configured rearward shear blade to shear a workpiece at a predetermined preferred position in the hydraulic shear.

Abstract: Apparatus for cutting open and cleaning the stomachs of small animals such as poultry comprises a conveying wheel, which has around its periphery chambers for holding said stomachs, means for feeding said stomachs to said chambers, a knife which extends into the path of movement of said chambers for cutting open said stomachs and a device for cleaning said stomachs after they have been cut open. Said wheel includes means for decreasing and increasing the sizes of said chambers as the wheel rotates, said chambers decreasing in size as they move away from said feeding means towards said knife whereby said stomachs are compressed in said chambers as they reach said knife.
