  • Patent number: 4032166
Abstract: An attachment for bicycles for carrying packages, small articles, newspapers, and the like. The device includes a saddle-type load-carrying container over the rear wheel of a bicycle. An outrigger wheel assembly is connected to and spaced outwardly from each of the sides of the container including a load-bearing wheel mounted in a wheel skirt connected with the container side by an arrangement of straps and hinges which permit relative movement between the wheel skirt and the container allowing the wheel assembly to change positions relative to the rear wheel of the bicycle to compensate for irregular running surfaces. Vertically spaced bumper rollers are secured between the container sides and each wheel skirt to maintain the proper spacing in between the outrigger wheels and the container sides.

  • Patent number: 3985458
Abstract: A locking device especially adapted to secure relatively movable concentric members together. The device is particularly useful for locking a bearing on a shaft or within a housing. Broadly, the device includes a locking part disposed between first and second concentric members and biased into a frictional engagement with a first of the members so that when such member moves relative to the second member, the locking part is moved frictionally engaging the second member for locking the members together. In one form of the locking device a coil spring is wound about and frictionally engages a first member within a second member and has a tang engageable with a recess in the second member for interlocking the members responsive to rotation of the first member. Another embodiment of the locking device includes an arcuate-shaped spring having wedge portions engaging a first member within a recess of the second member.

  • Patent number: 3984698
Abstract: An electrical generator system including a waterwheel apparatus as a prime mover. The waterwheel apparatus as a plurality of pivoted buckets mounted in circumferentially spaced relation around a central hub and having an outer rim provided with a ring gear driving a pinion gear on the generator shaft for obtaining a high rotational speed in a generator from a relatively slow turning waterwheel. The waterwheel buckets each fold outwardly to hold a maximum quantity of water as the bucket reaches approximately the horizontal center line of the wheel on the downwardly moving side of the wheel while each bucket empties at the vertical center line of the wheel as the bucket passes the bottom side and thereafter folds inwardly as the bucket moves upwardly and over the top of the wheel.

  • Patent number: 3980134
Abstract: A device for converting a well packer to a bridge plug for closing off flow along a well bore to isolate adjacent portions of the well bore on opposite sides of the packer, including a tubular sub connectible on the lower end of a well packer and a frangible closure plate supported in sealed relationship in the sub across the bore of the packer for closing off flow through the packer. The frangible plate is installed in the packer at the surface prior to setting the packer in the well bore and thereafter is destroyed without removal of the packer from the well bore to establish communication through the packer. The plate is insulated against vibration, withstands high hydraulic loads from both sides while fragmenting responsive to very low mechanical loads, and expends in small pieces to give a full bore opening without obstruction.

  • Patent number: 3977467
Abstract: Air conditioning apparatus which includes an air blower-heater module useful independently and also in a unit having cooling coils providing means for heating, cooling, and filtering air in air conditioning systems for enclosures. The module has a squirrel cage type centrifugal blower in a housing having scroll shaped baffling with an electric heater at the outlet. The baffling is shaped to minimize turbulence; the heater is mounted within a heat shield spaced within the baffling to reduce housing temperatures; and the blower motor is mounted exterior of the blower chamber for maximum air input. A preferred application of the module is in a cube shaped fancoil unit having a square cooling coil assembly which may be installed at various orientations to provide for bottom drainage with a variety of directions of air intake and discharge. In the cube unit using the module, the air intake and discharge paths are perpendicular to each other.

  • Patent number: 3957115
Abstract: A method of incrementally treating a section of an earth formation around a well to improve fluid flow into the well. The method includes the steps of installing a well casing provided with spaced landing nipples, perforating and treating a bottom portion of the formation by suitable standard procedures including employing a packer in the casing above the location of perforation and treating, running a retrievable plug into the well bore, releasably locking the plug at one of the landing nipples above the first location of perforation and treating, running a perforator into the well above the plug and perforating the casing above the plug, treating the formation through the perforations above the plug, and thereafter sequentially treating the formation at selected depths up the hole by engaging the plug with a combination overshot handling tool and perforator to lift the plug upwardly and install the plug at the next landing nipple above the previously perforated and treated zone.

  • Patent number: 3955624
Abstract: Well tools comprising a go-devil actuated well safety valve, a locking assembly for releasably locking the safety valve at a desired depth in a well, running and pulling tools for installing and removing the safety valve, a go-devil ball for closing the safety valve, and apparatus for dropping the go-devil ball into a well under pressure and for retrieving the ball. The go-devil safety valve is mounted above the locking assembly and includes a trigger type latch which is released from above by the impact of the go-devil ball. The valve may be reset for reopening the valve without removal of the valve from the well bore by means of a special reset and pulling tool disclosed herein. The go-devil valve is installed in a well, preferably above a storm choke, to shut the well in under emergency conditions which releases the go-devil ball at the surface in response to hazardous conditions such as fire. The go-devil ball drops to the go-devil valve which closes in response to the impact of the ball.

  • Patent number: 3934648
Abstract: A well tubing system for releasably coupling lower tubing strings with upper tubing strings in a well bore without rotation from the surface including a well packer on a plurality of lower tubing strings, a first flow coupling and guide sleeve on the upper end of the packer, and a second flow coupling and guide head on the lower ends of the upper tubing strings. The upper tubing strings and guide head are connected with and disconnected from the guide sleeve on the packer by longitudinal motion only. The guide head has spiral guide surfaces leading to a vertical orienting slot. The guide sleeve includes a guide lug which engages the guide head guide surfaces and slot to rotate the head and upper tubing strings to the desired orientation. In alternate forms of the invention means are provided for the running and retrieving of either one or both of the upper tubing strings independently of the other of the strings after the initial connection of the guide head into the guide sleeve in the well bore.
