  • Patent number: 6345052
Abstract: Method and apparatus are provided for guaranteeing that transmit cell available signals transmitted from an ATM-PHY interface device conform to a communication protocol. A previous transmit cell available signal from the previous clock cycle is stored and a transmit status signal and a transmit enable signal for the current clock cycle are sampled. One of the transmit status signal and the previous transmit cell available signal are selected as the new transmit cell available signal based upon the state of the transmit enable signal and the transmit status signal.

  • Patent number: 6339474
Abstract: A method and circuit is disclosed wherein two waveguides coupled to an optical resonator are further coupled such that beams propagating therein interfere with one another to provide a desired output response. In one embodiment, multiplexed channels of light can be demultiplexed by the device described heretofore, or alternatively, the phase relationship between these two beams can be altered prior to their being combined to provide, for example, a linearized output response useful in applications such as wavelength locking.

  • Patent number: 6331912
Abstract: An improved optical circulator transfers light from a first optical port to a second optical port, and from the second port to a third port. The circulator has non-reciprocal polarization rotators, birefringent beam splitters and combiners, and a polarization-dependent light bending device comprising two tapered birefringent plates. The light bending device compensates for an angle between a first light beam emanating from the first port and a second light beam propagating to the third port. The existence of this angle allows the first and third fibers to be coupled to the light beams using a single lens.

  • Patent number: 6314760
Abstract: A system for melting and delivering glass to a work area such as spinners for making fiberglass includes a melter with heaters so arranged that the “hot spot” in the molten glass is located away from the walls and corrosion sensitive parts so that the various elements of the melter wear out at substantially the same time. The system is further provided with a dual exhaust arrangement when the melter, conditioner and forehearth are located on the same floor of the plant, the first exhaust being at the juncture of the melter and conditioner, and the second being an alternating replacement for one of the heating/cooling orifices and mechanisms in the conditioner, so as to effectively limit the amount of corrosive volatiles reaching the forehearth.

  • Patent number: 6305259
Abstract: An automatic log-cutting apparatus, or log merchandiser, which is designed to analyze and rapidly process tree-length stems, or logs, into shorter segments for further processing in pole mills, sawmills, plywood plants and the like. The logs are loaded via a conveyor onto the support arms of a number of cutting stations, all of which are movable and pre-positioned according to the determined optimum cut locations. The logs are then cut by pivoting saw blades, and the cut segments are released by the support arms onto a conveyor for removal.

  • Patent number: 6302717
Abstract: A universal adapter that can be adjusted to engage with many types of sockets. On one end, the adapter has at least two holes which can engage with a plug of an electric appliance. These holes are electrically connected with electrically conductive pin members, which are selectively extensible through one of a plurality of pairs of apertures on the other end of the adapter and are engageable with a socket. At least two pairs of these apertures are inclined to one another at an angle. The adapter also includes a third pin member made of an electrically insulating material which is extensible through an aperture on said other end of the adapter and which can be engaged with the ground pin hole of a socket.
