  • Patent number: 6206016
Abstract: This application discloses an automated apparatus for cleaning the interior surface of a pipe. The device includes a vehicle which propels itself down the inside of the pipe. A cleaning system is fixed to the vehicle and uses arms to reach the walls of the pipe. At the end of each arm sits a spray nozzle assembly equipped with spray nozzles. The spray nozzle assembly rotates or oscillates to spray clean the pipe surface. The arms and spray nozzle assembly interchange with other such cleaning systems depending on the shape or type of pipe and the desired cleaning technique. The apparatus is tethered to a source of fluid under pressure and a power source both of which are located off-board the apparatus at a remote location. An operator supervises the device's operation, controlling the speed and direction of travel of the vehicle, the speed and direction of oscillation and rotation of the cleaning system, and the fluid pressure delivered by the spray nozzles.

  • Patent number: 6182509
Abstract: An accelerometer having a substrate with a cavity therein, a heater extending over the cavity, a pair of temperature sensitive elements extending over the cavity equidistant from the heater, and an electrical conductor couplable to an external power source and operative to pass electrical current through the heater so as to develop a symmetrical temperature gradient in the fluid extending outwardly from the heater to the two temperature sensors. The fluid may be a liquid or a gas surrounding the heater and temperature sensors. Applied acceleration disturbs this symmetry and produces a differential temperature between the two temperature sensors proportional to the acceleration.

  • Patent number: 6178777
Abstract: An electric open-top melter for use in the manufacture of mineral fibers, such as fiberglass, is provided with a side-discharge outlet. The side-discharge outlet allows the melter, conditioner/refiner, and forehearth to all be located on substantially the same level, thereby allowing molten glass to flow from the side of the melter, through the conditioning zone, and into the forehearth from which spinners produce glass fibers or the like. Isolation members are provided in the conditioning or refining area so as to enable molten glass therein to be isolated from the melter and forehearth when the molten glass level is lowered below the tops the isolation members.

  • Patent number: 6156247
Abstract: Method for producing salt grains in which the salt is dissolved in a liquid solvent inside a mixing tank so as to form a saline solution which is supersaturated with salt and which is then atomized inside a drying tower where a stream of hot air circulates; the atomizing process being designed to produce a plurality of drops of saline solution, all of approximately the same size, and the stream of hot air being designed to evaporate the liquid solvent contained in each drop so as to cause the salt present in the said drop to solidify into a salt grain of essentially spherical shape; given that the dimensions of the salt grains depend on the dimensions of the drops of saline solution, it is possible to obtain salt grains of the desired size by producing drops of saline solution of a suitable size during the atomizing process.
