Abstract: An optical medium associated with a first type of optical drive laser, such as a blue laser, embeds identification information readable by a second type of optical drive laser, such as a red laser associated with DVD media or an IR laser associated with CD media, in order to reduce the time used by the optical drive to recognize media. An attempt to read the embedded identification information by the second laser that succeeds provides the optical drive with the information to proceed with use of the optical medium using the first laser. An attempt to read the embedded identification information that fails provides the optical drive with the opportunity to detect whether the optical medium is associated with the second laser so that a single spindle kick of the optical medium by the optical drive determines whether the optical medium is associated with either of two types of lasers.

Abstract: A plurality of sequential nodes in a design file for an electronic device are identified and one or more combinatorial power metric values are computed for the plurality of sequential nodes based upon an effective switching capacitance, a switching activity measure, and a power effort measure for at least a first device downstream from the each sequential node at a specified depth. The combinatorial power metric values for the plurality of sequential node are stored and compared to a target power metric value to determine if power consumption at the electronic device meets a predetermined power performance goal.

Abstract: An information handling system component contained within an information handling system housing uses the information handling system housing as at least a portion of a safety enclosure for hazardous functions of the component. A lock out device disables the hazardous function if the information handling system housing is moved relative to the component. For example, an optical disc drive laser is disabled if a Hall effect sensor in the chassis of the optical disc drive no longer senses a magnet placed in a portion of the information handling system housing used to enclose the optical disc drive.

Abstract: A method, system and program are provided for dynamically allocating DMA channel identifiers by virtualizing DMA transfer requests into available DMA channel identifiers using a channel bitmap listing of available DMA channels to select and set an allocated DMA channel identifier. Once an input value associated with the DMA transfer request is mapped to the selected DMA channel identifier, the DMA transfer is performed using the selected DMA channel identifier, which is then deallocated in the channel bitmap upon completion of the DMA transfer. When there is a request to wait for completion of the data transfer, the same input value is used with the mapping to wait on the appropriate logical channel. With this method, all available logical channels can be utilized with reduced instances of false-sharing.

Abstract: A goal management system stores at least first and second goals. The goal management system also stores a relationship between the first goal and the second goal. In one aspect, the goal management system detects modification of the first goal and, in response, causes the second goal to be automatically highlighted for alignment verification. In another aspect, the second goal is a parent goal to the first goal, and the relationship is stored as a parent link associating the first goal with the parent goal. The goal management system also stores an owner for the first goal. In response to detecting modification of the parent goal, the goal management system causes the first goal to be automatically highlighted for alignment verification in a display associated with the owner of the first goal, based on the parent link. Additional aspects relate to additional technological solutions which facilitate goal management through, for example, goal alignment.

Abstract: A system and method for resolving the blank screen issue when switching between graphics processing units. The system and method provide a graphics adapter LCD timing controller (Tcon) with a frame buffer specifically dedicated to storing previously presented screen data for use when switching graphic processing units. The system further includes a protocol comparator unit within a serial-to-parallel converter and a memory controller coupled to the protocol comparator.

Abstract: An information technology enclosure has a processing subsystem and infrastructure subsystem in separate shipping containers that cooperate to process information. The processing subsystem has increased information processing density by concentrating information handling systems in a first processing shipping container that is supported with infrastructure equipment in a second infrastructure shipping container. In one embodiment, the shipping containers are arranged in a stacked configuration so that cooled air and exhausted air are exchanged through aligned vents formed in the ceiling and floor of stacked shipping containers.

Abstract: A method, system and computer-usable medium are disclosed for the correlation of network events. A port of a network device is monitored at the physical layer interface for the occurrence of a network event. If detected, a repository of circuit path, network device, and device interface data is queried for information related to the network event and each network device at each hop of the circuit path associated with the event. A user selects time intervals for other network events or alarms occurring before or after the target event. A repository of network event and alarm data is then queried to retrieve all network events or alarms occurring during the selected time interval. Information related to the network events or alarms are then compared to interfaces related to devices that are likewise associated with the circuit path associated with the event.

Abstract: A method, system and computer-usable medium are disclosed for managing the user interface (UI) state of an AJAX application by automatically binding a uniform resource locator (URL) to an application code component. The metadata for controller functions contained in an AJAX Web page are read as it is loaded. Once loaded, the URL of the page is monitored for changes in its value. If the URL's value changes, then the value of the ‘action’ property of the changed URL is compared to the application metadata for validation. If the ‘action’ property of the changed URL does not exist in the application metadata, then the changed URL is considered invalid and its associated actions are ignored. If the ‘action’ property is valid, the function specified by the ‘action’ request parameter is called. A single object parameter is sent, with the properties of the single object parameter derived from the request parameters other than ‘action’.

Abstract: Plural consecutive virtual memory pages associated with an application running on an information handling system are mapped to a physical memory page of the information handling system's physical memory, such as dual channel interleaved memory. Each physical memory page that stores plural consecutive virtual memory pages becomes an effective cache of those virtual memory pages with a RAS operation on the memory, thus providing more efficient memory access in streaming applications. A memory mapping engine associated with the operating system of the information handling system maps plural virtual memory pages to single physical memory pages according to a ratio of physical memory size to virtual memory size provided by a memory manager of the information handling system BIOS, such as with an ACPI message.

Abstract: An electronic system includes a low breakdown voltage (LBV) switch internal to an integrated circuit controller to control conductivity of an external, high breakdown voltage (HBV) switch. In at least one embodiment, the internal LBV switch and a cascode configuration of the LBV and HBV switches allow the controller to control the LBV switch and the HBV switch using an internal (“on-chip”) control signal. In at least one embodiment, the LBV switch and the cascode configuration of the HBV switch also allows the controller to control the LBV and HBV switches with more accuracy and less parasitic losses relative to directly controlling the HBV switch. Thus, in at least one embodiment, the low breakdown voltage switch is fabricated as part of an integrated circuit controller, and the high breakdown voltage switch is fabricated separately and located external to the integrated circuit controller.

Abstract: An FTDC interface with the host or user. The interface can include a command application programming interface (API) or a data storage Command-Line Interface (DS CLI)/Graphical User Interface (GUI). In certain embodiments, the FTDC interface allows a host or user to customize a desired FTDC on a two-tiered system. The first tier is one in which a host/user selects, from a list of conditions, which ones, upon occurrence of those conditions, they would like the controller to perform FTDC. In the second tier a second selection is made such that for each first tier item, the host/user will select the level of FTDC (collection and offloading of logs and/or the forcing and offloading of a statesave).

Abstract: A system and method are disclosed for providing improved processing of video data. A multi-instance encoding module receives combined video and audio input, which is then separated into a video and audio source streams. The video source stream is pre-processed and corresponding video encoder instances are initiated. The preprocessed video source stream is split into video data components, which are assigned to a corresponding encoder instance. Encoding operations are performed by each video encoder instance to generate video output components. The video output components are then assembled in a predetermined sequence to generate an encoded video output stream. Concurrently, the audio source stream is encoded with an audio encoder to generate an encoded audio output stream. The encoded video and audio output streams are combined to generate a combined encoded output stream, which is provided as combined video and audio output.

Abstract: A method is disclosed that includes identifying an inventory item corresponding to a product configuration. The product configuration is defined using a feature map. The inventory item is also defined using the feature map. Each entry of the feature map corresponds to one of a number of features of a product.

Abstract: An integrated receiver circuit includes a phase locked loop circuit (21) with a voltage controlled oscillator (VCO) (25) and a quadrature generator circuit (29) which uses hybrid-branch line coupler circuits (27, 28) coupled to buffered VCO outputs, where the hybrid-branch line coupler circuits (27, 28) are tuned by same control voltage (25a) that controls the VCO (25). By replicating the VCO core circuitry in each hybrid-branch line coupler circuit (27, 28) under common control of a control voltage, calibrated quadrature signals are generated that have the same frequency as the phase locked loop circuit (21).

Abstract: Counterfeit electronic devices are detected by comparing a thermal profile of the counterfeit device and an authentic device under predetermined operating conditions. A thermal profile for an authentic electronic device is recorded executing an instruction set over time, such as with static infrared images at predetermined times, video infrared images over a predetermined time period or temperature measurements made at predetermined locations of the electronic device. In one embodiment, a thermal profile indicates that a processor device has been used in the place of a field programmable grid array device. In an alternative embodiment, an electromagnetic profile is detected instead of or in addition to the thermal profile. The electromagnetic profile of an authentic device is used to create an expected profile for comparison with an electromagnetic profile of electronic devices under test.

Abstract: A method is presented for using a hard disk drive which contains a non-volatile random access memory (NVRAM) and a computer-usable disk medium. A usage value is maintained for the number of accesses to the computer-usable disk medium, and the usage value is stored within the NVRAM. In a system that is connected to multiple hard disk drives, the usage values for the hard disk drives can be compared to determine a youngest disk drive or a lowest amount of usage amongst the multiple hard disk drives. When data needs to be mirrored or backed-up to one of the hard disk drives, it can be copied to the youngest or least-used hard disk drive. If an operating system installation needs to be performed, the operating system files can be stored on the youngest or least-used hard disk drive.

Abstract: An information handling system enclosure is formed from a metal panel having a thickness, such as approximately 1 mm, by stamping a raised edge from the panel so that the height of the edge appears as a thickness of the panel, such as 2.5 mm. The raised edge is stamped to have a raised edge of slightly greater than the final edge height and then punched into a corner tool to provide the raised edge with a desired height. Punching into the corner tool forms the edge along the outer circumference of the panel to have a substantially square appearance.

Abstract: Embodiments of systems and methods for improved first-in-first-out (FIFO), last-in-last out (LIFO) and full-cycle decoders are described herein. In the various embodiments of the system, a clock generator is operable to generate a clock signal having an active phase and an inactive phase. A set of monotonic flip-flops are operable to capture a set of incoming data addresses during the active cycle of the clock and to generate therefrom data corresponding to single bits in the addresses that have changed compared to the data addresses received by the set of monotonic flip-flops during an immediately preceding data capture cycle. A set of static flip-flops are operable to capture a set of incoming data addresses during the inactive phase of the clock cycle and to generate set output data therefrom. A decoder operable to process the set output data from the set of static flip-flops and to generate a set of old wordlines corresponding to a set of data addresses in the immediately preceding data capture cycle.
