  • Patent number: 4314133
Abstract: A method and apparatus for cutting a workpiece by electrical discharges by means of a travelling wire electrode according to a path determined by a numerical control program without reducing the machining speed or the current flowing into the wire electrode. At least one of the support and guiding members of the wire electrode is displaced relative to the workpiece along a path resulting from shifting each point of the desired cutting path a predetermined distance in the direction of machining along a tangent to each point of such path. The angle between the tangent at each point of the path relative to the coordinate axes is determined, and each point of the path is shifted relative to the programmed path along coordinates having values proportional respectively to the sine and cosine of the angle.

  • Patent number: 4310742
Abstract: Process and apparatus for cutting by electrical discharge machining cavities and slots in an electrode workpiece by means of an electrode tool, the electrodes being displaced one relative to the other in translation along a predetermined path. The translation motion is controlled such as to maintain predetermined machining conditions in the machining zone between the electrodes, and for additionally displacing the electrodes relative to each other in a direction different from the direction of the cutting path. The additional relative displacement of the electrode may be linear, non-linear, slanted or curvilinear.

  • Patent number: 4306966
Abstract: A heat responsive by-pass flow circuit for a fluid flow system passive element, such as the filter element normally connected in series from an inlet to an outlet. The filter element is provided with a head block or housing having a by-pass passageway between the filter element inlet and outlet, such by-pass passageway being normally closed by a spring loaded valve. A solenoid actuates the valve to open the by-pass passageway under the control of a heat controlled switch having a temperature sensitive element disposed in the flow of fluid at the inlet to the filter element. The heat temperature controlled switch is adjusted to open the by-pass at a pre-set temperature of the fluid flowing into the inlet to the filter element, such as to cause increased direct flow of fluid from a cooler to a working element of the system and back to the cooler, thus reducing overheating of the fluid due to slow fluid flow through the system caused by excessive pressure drop across the passive element.

  • Patent number: 4306136
Abstract: A process and apparatus for increasing the frequency of the effective machining electrical discharges between the electrode workpiece and the electrode tool of an EDM apparatus. The process of the invention consists in monitoring the electrical parameters in the machining zone between the electrodes such as to detect short circuits, and, when a short circuit is detected, in continuing monitoring the electrical parameters until monitoring indicates the disappearance of the short circuit, in cutting off the ongoing electrical discharge after a predetermined time interval following the moment at which said short circuit disappears and in re-establishing normal electrical voltage pulses after another time interval following the end of the discharge. The invention also provides appropriate apparatus for practicing the process.

  • Patent number: 4301961
Abstract: Paper provided on one surface with a mesh-like pattern, for example a diamond-shaped pattern, or reinforcing extruded plastic material. The extruded plastic material is applied to the paper surface in the form of a plurality of narrow thin stripes or strands adhering to the surface and penetrating through the mass of the paper due to the porosity of the paper and drawing of the plastic material through the paper during application of the plastic stripes or strands by applying vacuum to the opposite surface of the paper. The reinforced paper of the invention is particularly useful for making good-carrying bags commonly used for carrying groceries and other purchased articles from a store.

  • Patent number: 4298782
Abstract: An EDM method and apparatus for cutting a workpiece by a wire electrode in the form of a metallic tape or wire, in which the traction exerted on the wire electrode by the mechanism feeding the wire electrode in the machining zone between the wire electrode and the workpiece is modified momentarily, and the variation of machining rate caused by the momentary modification of the force of traction exerted on the wire electrode is detected. The direction in which the machining rate is changed provides an indication of the effect, on the wire electrode, of the transverse forces which deflect the wire in the machining zone, relative to its longitudinal axis. The direction in which the machining rate varies is used to select the direction in which a predetermined machining parameter affecting the transverse forces applied on the wire electrode is changed, such as to maintain the wire electrode properly aligned along its longitudinal axis.

  • Patent number: 4295381
Abstract: A constant torque power transmission consisting of a rotating mass, or gyroscope, rotating around a first axis and supported by a frame or enclosure in turn pivotally supported about a second axis at right angle to the first axis by a gimbal, the gimbal being pivotably supported around a third axis disposed at right angle to the second axis. The reciprocating member of a crankless reciprocating engine, of the free piston or free-cylinder type, oscillates the gimbal and the rotating mass about the third axis, causing the rotating mass frame or enclosure to develop a precessional force oscillating about the second axis. The oscillating precessional force is applied to an output shaft through a one-way clutch assembly.

  • Patent number: 4293017
Abstract: A dual-chamber pneumatic tire having two separate concentric annular air chambers. The outermost air chamber, disposed behind the tire tread normally in contact with the ground, is toroidal and substantially elliptical in cross-section, and is inflated at a higher pressure than the innermost chamber disposed in the remaining volume of the tire. The two chambers are separated by a wall or diaphragm which is integrally attached to the tire casing interior walls or which is, alternatively, made removable. The low pressure innermost chamber is inflated by means of a conventional air valve, while the outermost chamber is inflated by means of an additional air valve connected to the wall or diaphragm by means of a flexible hose. The structure of the invention is particularly adapted to tubeless tires.
