  • Patent number: 6605808
Abstract: A diagnostic apparatus including a terahertz generator taking the form of a femtosecond laser exciting either an optoelectric crystal of a photoconductive dipole antenna the terahertz radiation is directed onto a target preferably held close by or abutting an enclosure including a reflection receiving window and housing terahertz detector for detecting terahertz radiation. Preferably the terahertz radiation generator forms part of the receiving window. The enclosure has a modified atmosphere to permit ready transmission of terahertz radiation. A beam splitter is positioned between the laser and the terahertz generator to split off a probe laser beam from the terahertz inducing laser radiation which is also directed to the detector means. The output from the detector being determined by the amplitude of that part of the reflected teraherz radiation wave coaligned with the probe laser at the detector.

Abstract: A suitable tension is applied to a film-like printing body to be processed in a printing step or a parts mounting step. Further, the processed film-like printing body is automatically fed out by a predetermined stroke. In a state of a film-like printing body (9) being clamped by all the fixing clamps (19, 19, 29, 29), a tension clamp (12) in a rear side of a parts mounting apparatus (33) in a moving direction of the film-like printing body (9) is moved forward by a cylinder (17) while being kept open. Then, tension clamp (12) is pulled back by an operation of a tension coil spring (18) while the film-like printing body (9) being kept clamped. After mounting of the parts, the tension clamp (12) is opened. Next, the film-like printing body (9) is clamped by feeding clamps (20, 20), and at the same time, all of the fixing clamps (19, 19, 29, 29) are opened.

  • Patent number: 6604018
Abstract: A cremation repository stores a multiplicity of containers holding cremated remains of respective individual organisms. In response to a request from a living human patron, the request incorporating an identification of the patron and an identification of one of the containers, a computer is operated to check a database to determine whether the patron is entitled to view the identified container. Where the request is proper or authorized, a robot mechanism is operated to retrieve the identified container from a respective storage location and to deliver the identified container to a predetermined location accessible by the patron. After the patron has completed visitation with the retrieved container, the robot mechanism is operated to return the that container in an essentially unaltered state to the container's storage location. The patron is enabled to order music and optionally other environmental conditions.

  • Patent number: 6584315
Abstract: A method of allocating frame offset and link in a base station in which performance of digital telecommunications system is enhanced by allocating a resource in such a manner that loads of the link and frame offset are dispersed when communication channels for use of handoff are allocated, and soft handoff can be occurred when the frame offset is allocated, has an advantage in that the link and frame offset are dynamically allocated when requesting handoff so that loads can be evenly distributed between the link and the frame offset. Thus, data loss between the communication channel and the control station may be minimized, and the mobile station may timely perform handoff, thus enabling a stable call handling service.

  • Patent number: 6574889
Abstract: A shoe comprises a flexible outersole, an insole and an upper, the upper being formed from a flat Thermo Plastic Rubber blank, a toe cap first being fabricated in the blank by means of a teacup crease special-use sewing machine, the blank or preform subsequently affixed to a last and joined by a second special purpose sewing machine, or disc feed overseaming machine, to a non-woven fabric midsole or insole, substantially completing the upper. Thermal processing on the resulting preform completes processing of the upper without use of an insole board. A third element of the shoe, the outersole, is unitary in construction, and equipped with a unique pattern of intersecting grooves, as well as an external bridge or instep support in lieu of an inner steel shank. Following bonding of the upper and the outersole, a shoe of unique flexibility is produced, while still providing adequate protection to an active user's foot.

  • Patent number: 6577873
Abstract: An apparatus and method for extending the service area in a mobile communication system is provided, in which the service area is defined with a normal mode or an extension mode based on a distance between the base station and the mobile station and, in case of the extension mode, a transmission clock used by the mobile station for transmitting signals is changed, thus extending the service area. The access is attempted in the normal mode, and the transmission clock for transmitting the mobile signal is advanced the initial delay in the extension mode when the access fails. The access is reattempted with repeating the control of the transmission clock until the number of times of the access attempt reaches a predetermined number of times. When the number of times of the access currently attempted is greater than the predetermined number of times, the extension mode is converted to the normal mode, returning to the initial state.
