  • Patent number: 4377969
Abstract: Laboratory fume hoods with open hood faces closed by door sash are provided with an automatic airflow control regulating the quantity of air drawn into the hood in response to movement of the door sash for maintaining a controlled velocity of air through the hood face to keep fumes within the hood while reducing energy requirements for either heating or cooling the air to maintain safe operation. The open hood face is controlled by a vertically slidable sash or window counterbalanced by a weight that is connected to the sash by a cable which moves directly proportional to the movement of the sash. This cable actuates mechanism for opening and closing a damper in the exhaust system for the fume hood. In one embodiment, the cable drives a pressure regulator which controls an air motor to rotate the damper. In other embodiments the cable may drive reduction gear to the damper or control a servo motor which drives the damper.

  • Patent number: 4378143
Abstract: An optical device coupling light between a first light waveguide and either a second light waveguide or a radiation source characterized by the first light waveguide having a core of a predetermined cross-sectional area, a reflective layer or mirror of a high reflectance being disposed on an angle to the axis of the waveguide and occupying only a small portion of the total cross-sectional area of the core so that only a small portion of the light traveling in the core of the first waveguide will be blocked by the presence of the mirror. The second waveguide will have a core diameter substantially smaller than that of the first waveguide and the mirror is mounted in the first core adjacent to the connection with the second core. The radiation source may be either a laser diode, semi-conductor laser or a light emitting diode.

  • Patent number: 4378021
Abstract: In an exemplary embodiment, a measurement network at a bedside monitoring station can be sequentially stepped through a series of measurement modes either at a bedside monitoring station or at a central monitoring station. A serial in parallel out shift register has successive active positions corresponding to the successive measurement modes and may be stepped either by means of a local push button switch, or by means of a respective corresponding push button switch at the central station. At the central station, a decade counter and decoder arrangement drives a numerical readout for each local station for the purpose of representing each of the local measurement modes. A series of reset circuits couple the outputs of the first shift register stages of the respective local stations with the reset input of a corresponding decade counter such that each time the associated shift register stage is placed in an active state the counter is placed in an initial count condition.

  • Patent number: 4377970
Abstract: A nut cracker includes a base that supports an adjustably fixed anvil member and a moveable ram member under the control of a handle, there being a guide interconnecting the ram member with the base which maintains the ram member in an erect position. The confronting faces of the anvil member 17 and the ram member 27 are provided with recesses into which the ends of the nut are received with clearance so that the outer rim of such recesses engage the nut to provide the cracking force to its shell remotely from the ends of the nut. With this construction, a heavy-duty unit is provided which is especially useful for cracking nuts that have hard or strong shells such as black walnuts and butternuts, and the construction further enables the shells to be broken and nut meats recovered in larger pieces without over-cracking.

  • Patent number: 4377777
Abstract: Two DC motors are driven by switching pulse drive circuits, and the switching on times of drive pulses are made to be out of phase with each other at the two switching pulse drive circuits. One of the two DC motors rotates rotary video heads, and the other drives a capstan of a video tape recording and/or reproducing apparatus. The drive pulses are preferably synchronized with horizontal synchronizing pulses of a video signal to be handled by the video tape recording and/or reproducing apparatus in order to avoid pulse noises.

  • Patent number: 4377748
Abstract: In an exemplary embodiment, a control loop for the x-ray tube current is present which adjusts the x-ray tube current to a value which is a function of the exposure time and the selected mAs-product. In order that deviations of the x-ray tube voltage from a desired value can be controlled via the x-ray tube current, but that the mean value of the x-ray tube current can nevertheless be kept constant, a phase angle control device, arranged in the primary circuit of the high voltage transformer, can be present as the regulating unit for the mean value of the x-ray tube current. As controller for the x-ray tube voltage, a circuit for the adjustment of the filament current of the x-ray tube can be provided.

  • Patent number: 4376658
Abstract: Structures composed of photosensitive resist are produced for semiconductor circuits by first generating a mask of a photosensitive resist onto a substrate and then applying a layer of a photosensitive resist over the entire surface of the substrate, including the first generated mask, so that such mask dissociates or dissolves by the material of the subsequently applied layer, which is then structured. In this manner, an improved adhesion of the resist structures to the substrate is achieved and simultaneously cleansing steps are eliminated. The inventive process is utilized for all processes during manufacture of semiconductor circuits wherein at least two photolithographic processes occur without the intervention of a high temperature step.
