  • Patent number: 8326408
Abstract: A method and apparatus using brainwaves to control real objects is provided. The method and apparatus comprise using sensors to detect the brain's electrical signals and transmit at least two brainwaves to an apparatus that converts the brainwaves into a format usable by a signal processor. The signal processor determines a coherence between portions of the brainwaves, typically in the frequency domain, and compares the coherence values, which change rapidly from moment to moment, to thresholds. Based on the comparison of the coherence value to the thresholds, which are adjusted over time based on feedback relating to success, a control signal is developed that can be sent to a real object to control 3 dimensional motion of the control object.

  • Patent number: 8320235
Abstract: A self-repair system provides resource failure tolerance using an interconnection network that provides interconnection information identifying connections between system resources, redundant resources and ports that are connectable to consumers of the system resources. A controller identifies both defective system resources and the affected sinks connected to the defective system resources from the interconnection network. The controller further identifies compatible resources from the system resources and redundant resources that are capable of replacing the defective system resources for each of the affected sinks from the interconnection network. The controller determines a respective cost associated with each of the compatible resources, and in response to the determined costs, selects at least one of the compatible resources as a replacement resource for each of the defective system resources.

  • Patent number: 8321163
Abstract: A power distribution unit (PDU) disposable in an electrical equipment rack. The PDU has a housing, a power input penetrating the housing, outlets in the housing, a processor disposed in the housing, voltage and current sensors, and a voltage calculation procedure communicable with the processor. The processor samples voltage and current waveforms and calculates RMS values and other power parameters. A method of managing electrical loads each drawing electrical power from a PDU includes repeatedly sampling voltage across and current flowing through each of the loads, calculating raw RMS values of voltage and current, and scaling the raw RMS values to obtain corrected RMS voltage and current values and other power parameters.

  • Patent number: 8321297
Abstract: Systems, methods, and devices for the automated, community-based exchange of procurement documents. In some embodiments, there may be different sets of rules for each of a number of different communities of trading partners. Each set of rules may be made up of rules data for direct peer-to-peer exchange and/or transformation of procurement documents in respective communities. By way of example, a host trading partner may select the rules for exchange of procurement documents for a community. Invited trading partners may register for the community, and rules for the community may then be distributed to the registered trading partners.

  • Patent number: 8314712
Abstract: An apparatus is disclosed for facilitating spoilage detection in bulk grain storage bins via dust-free or substantially dust-free air sampling. Dust particles are passively removed from sampled air without the use of barrier filters or electrostatic screens, but instead through the use of a non-linear pathway that is open at one end and closed at the other end. A system is disclosed that incorporates a coiled pathway as an air inlet element combined with a carbon dioxide or other gas detector element to provide an integrated detector module suitable for permanent installation in a dusty bulk grain storage bin environment to provide spoilage gas measurements over time. The system may communicate data to a central data storage system via cellular telephone or long range radio frequency data transmission. Alerts and alarms are generated and transmitted electronically to users via email, SMS text, automated phone messages and other means.

  • Patent number: 8315598
Abstract: The present invention is broadly directed to systems and methods for gathering information about wireless transceiver devices in a defined boundary region. To this end, the disclosure is more particularly directed to gathering movement information (e.g., via detection and location) about two-way end-user wireless terminals within three-dimensional boundaries of defined local space (“DLS”) to allow for selective control of the terminals and other subsystems, as desired. Additionally, the data collected can be used to improve accuracy and precision regarding the prediction of behavior characteristics and tendencies of populations based on a sampling of observed terminals.

  • Patent number: 8311800
Abstract: A computer-implemented method for detecting incorrect translations of one or more terms in a computing string is described. A key term in a first language and a translation of the key term in a second language are retrieved. One or more compound terms in the first language that include the key term in the first language are identified. A computing string in the first language and a translation of the computing string in a second language are retrieved. The one or more compound terms in the first language are removed from the computing string in the first language. The key term in the second language is compared with one or more words included in the computing string in the second language. The translation of the one or more terms of the computing string are classified as incorrect based on the comparison.

  • Patent number: 8308446
Abstract: A method and apparatus for blowing down a compressed air system when temperature is at or below a predefined temperature threshold is provided. Temperature sensors in the compressed air system monitor temperature and a control processor determines when the temperature is at or below the predefined temperature threshold. When it is determined temperature is at or below the predefined temperature threshold, the control processor operates a solenoid blow-down valve that depressurizes the compressed air system.

  • Patent number: 8311006
Abstract: Novel satellite communications systems, methods, and related devices are described. In some embodiments, a satellite communications system is configured to dynamically allocate bandwidth to terminals. Such a system may be made up of a satellite in communication with terminals (e.g., user terminals or gateways). The satellite or a Network Control Center (NCC) may receive and compile bandwidth request data from the terminals. In each of a series of one or more epochs, and according to the bandwidth requests, the satellite and/or NCC may allocate carrier group resources to particular traffic classes. The assignment of allocated resources to particular terminals is also described.

  • Patent number: 8311047
Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices are described for dynamically multiplexing user sessions among multiple terminal devices. A switch device establishes a session with a host device on behalf of a user logged in to a first terminal device communicatively coupled with the switch device. The switch device forwards packets received from the host device to the first terminal device, the packets associated with the session. The switch device may receive a selection of a second terminal for association with the session while maintaining the session with the host device on behalf of the user. The switch device forwards at least a portion of the packets associated with the session from the host device to the second terminal device responsive to receiving the selection of the second terminal device.

  • Patent number: 8307276
Abstract: A method of verifying content, for example webpage content, including receiving, at an indexing system (100), a first copy (240) of a document (220) from a hosting server (210), then processing the first copy (240) to obtain first indicating data including one or more properties of the first copy (240). Also obtaining second indicating data, the second indicating data obtained by processing a second copy (255) of the document (220) from the hosting server (210), the second copy (255) received by a client terminal (250), the second indicating data including one or more properties of the second copy (255). Then the first indicating data and the second indicating data can be compared, and the first copy (240) of the document (220) received by the indexing system (100) can be determined to be verified or not verified based on a comparison between the first indicating data and the second indicating data.
