  • Patent number: 4210208
Abstract: Method and apparatus for controlling down hole pressure during an offshore drilling operation is disclosed. The method and apparatus are particularly useful for drilling in deep water from an offshore surface facility which includes a drilling vessel stationed above an ocean floor drilling site in which well head equipment is embedded. A marine riser is connected to the well head equipment and extends to the drilling vessel. A drill string enclosed within the riser extends from the drilling vessel through the well head equipment and into a borehole beneath the ocean floor. Choke and kill conduit lines are connected in fluid communication with the borehole and extend from the well head equipment to the drilling vessel. According to the invention, a subsea choke valve is connected in fluid communication with the choke conduit line and with the interior of the riser whereby fluid or gas may be discharged at a controlled rate from the choke line directly into the riser annulus.

  • Patent number: 4198045
Abstract: An exercising device is disclosed. The exercising device comprises an elongated body support member that will accommodate a person using the device in a prone, or sitting position. Rigid elongated end members extend along and are affixed to the end edges of the body supporting member. Rigid elongated stabilizer members are attached to the elongated end members with a flexible attachment device. The apparatus is suspended from a fixed anchor device, such as a wall, ceiling, or a stable frame, by flexible suspension device that are strung between the stabilizers and the anchor points. Elastic device are disposed in at least one of the suspension device whereby the suspension device can be elongated when a force is applied to the suspension device. The elastic device disposed in the suspension device thus allows the user to cause the body supporting member to move upwardly, downwardly and/or horizontally in response to certain forces that are applied to the apparatus.

  • Patent number: 4191254
Abstract: Apparatus and method of filling voids in a ground stratum in the vicinity of a well bore are enclosed. The apparatus is a self-contained device and, for example, it can be placed in the well bore in the vicinity of the voids to be plugged by dropping the apparatus down a drill string. Once in place it will automatically respond to the well pressure to provide the required plugging. To accomplish this the apparatus includes precursors of polymers such as precursors of polyurethanes, epoxy type polymers, polyesters or other polymers which are released from the apparatus and flow into the voids.
