  • Patent number: 4152473
Abstract: A seam and method for forming such seam to join pieces of synthetic turf material together are disclosed. In the disclosed method, edges of synthetic turf material, having a polymeric backing thereon, are abutted together and the abutted edges are positioned over a reinforcing tape material. The reinforcing tape material is a fabric strip that is coated with a polymeric material that is substantially the same as the polymeric material forming the backing of the synthetic turf. A volatile solvent material, capable of dissolving the polymeric material forming the backing of the synthetic turf, and the coating on the reinforcing tape is thereafter applied to at least a portion of the abutted edges and the adjacent surface of the reinforcing tape. Pressure is applied to urge the abutted edges into contact with the surface of the reinforcing tape and the volatile solvent is allowed to evaporate, thereby forming the seam, having improved structural properties.

  • Patent number: 4151575
Abstract: An electrical device is connected to the magnetic starter of an electrical motor to protect the motor windings from a loss of power on one or more input lines of a three phase power source. The device includes two transformers each being connected across two input lines and having one input line in common with each other. The transformer secondaries are each connected in a relay circuit so that a voltage on the secondary of each transformer above a predetermined value will actuate the relay in its respective circuit. The contacts of both relays are connected in series with each other and with the magnetic starter of the electrical motor so as to actuate the magnetic starter when both relays are closed. When the voltage on any of the three input lines drops substantially below a normal operating level, one or both of these relays will open, immediately turning off the magnetic starter and shutting down the motor to prevent damage to the motor windings.

  • Patent number: 4147978
Abstract: An electronic monitoring circuit measures the amount of energy consumed by a system and displays the corresponding cost of the energy. An alarm circuit is triggered if the cost exceeds a predetermined amount over a given period of time. The monitoring circuit includes an electromagnetic coil which senses the magnitude of the input current and generates a d-c voltage having an amplitude corresponding to the current magnitude. The d-c voltage drives a voltage-controlled oscillator to generate an a-c signal having a frequency corresponding to the d-c voltage amplitude. The oscillator has been preset so that the generated a-c signal has a frequency representing a unit of cost of electrical power corresponding to the sensed current magnitude. A multivibrator generates a pulsed digital signal corresponding to the a-c signal frequency, each pulse indicating a unit of cost for the electrical power consumed.

  • Patent number: 4147353
Abstract: An apparatus for holding and retrieving a game ball includes a suitable anchor with a cord attached to the anchor at one end and an adjustable ball holder attached to the other end of the cord. The adjustable ball holder has four elongated pieces of webbing material that are joined together at one end so that the pieces extend outwardly at right angles between each adjacent piece of webbing material. The webbing material pieces are sized to extend around a game ball with the upper free ends of the webbing being attached to the other end of the elongated cord to thereby hold the ball in place. A continuous elastic strip is attached to the mid-point of each of the webbing material pieces to thereby surround the ball held in place to allow balls of different sizes to be held within the ball holder.

  • Patent number: 4145840
Abstract: A generally U-shaped clip of spring steel is adapted for holding plants in a predetermined position along a brick wall or the like. The clip comprises generally flat legs extending outwardly from a bend at a relatively wide angle when the clip is in its untensioned state. The free ends of the legs are separated by a greater distance in such untensioned state than the distance between adjacent bricks at a mortar joint of the brick wall. By forcing the legs together, the clip can be installed in the crevice at the mortar joint with the free ends of the legs engaging the opposed surfaces of adjacent bricks. The spring tension retained by the clip when installed in the crevice secures the clip to the wall by frictional engagement with the surfaces of the adjacent bricks. A suitable retainer, such as a twist of wire attached to the bend of the clip, permits vines or the like to be fastened in place against the wall.

  • Patent number: 4135349
Abstract: An adapter for use with rotary crop shredders and with a vehicle for towing the shredders. The resulting shredder apparatus is described as having a center shredder, directly behind the vehicle and shredders on each side of the center one. A center coupling assembly makes connections to the towing vehicle and to the center shredder. Extending from the center coupling assembly to each side shredder is a beam. A side coupling assembly connects each side shredder to the corresponding beam. The positions of the side shredders along the beams can be adjusted for best alignment with planted crop rows. The coupling assemblies, by providing considerable freedom of motion for the shredders, enable them to run over irregular ground. At the same time, means have been provided which permit the shredders to be raised for transport to and from a field.

  • Patent number: 4126707
Abstract: A method for processing grain to provide a flour or grit product suitable for human consumption and by-products suitable for use as animal feed and industrial products which includes forming a slurry of the grain with water and passing the slurry through a plurality of pump stages having turbine pumps equipped with turbine pump impellers to remove the husks from the grain kernels without cracking a substantial portion of the kernels. The slurry is then passed through a centrifuge to remove excess water, surface dried and passed through an aspirator to separate the husks from the grain kernels. The dehusked kernels are sent through a centrifugal impact cracker to break up the kernel and separate the germ and oil from the endosperm. The broken kernel pieces are then milled to produce flour.
