  • Patent number: 6837669
Abstract: A vehicle loading ramp (10) broadly comprises a first load-bearing platform (16), a second load-bearing platform (20) preferably substantially identical to the first platform (16), and a brace (20) that can be positioned between the platforms (16,18) in order to adjust and rigidly fix a distance between the platforms. In each of several embodiments, the brace (20) may be configured to adjust the distance between the platforms (16,18) in order to accommodate different offsets between wheels of different wheeled vehicles. The brace (20) can also fix the distance between the platforms (16,18), thereby providing rigidity and preventing the platforms (16,18) from moving with respect to one another, either laterally or longitudinally.

  • Patent number: 6829877
Abstract: The invention is a baling machine with an articulated guide track disposed in three operationally distinct sections. One section of the articulated guide track, representing approximately one-half of the track perimeter, is movable between a first position and a second position. In the first position, the large section completes a guide track perimeter. In the second position, the large section pivots away from tying heads of the baling machine to permit ejection of the bale from the machine.

  • Patent number: 6826894
Abstract: A position control for a crop pickup device which is mounted for vertical movement relative to an agricultural harvester. A measuring device is provided for determining the distance from the crop pickup device to the ground, wherein the position of the crop pickup device relative to the ground is adjustable by one control device as a function of the measured ground distance. The distance to the ground is determined by the measuring device at two points spaced from each other in the direction of travel. As a result, advantageously the inclination of the ground can be determined and used for optimized control of ground simulation of the crop pickup device. Additionally, the cutting angle can be adapted automatically to the slope of the ground, to avoid crop losses and impede damage to the grain header.

  • Patent number: 6824497
Abstract: The life of a clutch is prolonged via bypassing a clutch of a gearbox and engaging a machine braking system. A change in speed or direction of a gearbox output shaft is accomplished by a management controller sending a signal through a signal transmission system to bypass the clutch and engage the machine braking system. The method includes the steps of generating a signal; processing the signal by the management controller, sending a signal to bypass the clutch; and sending a signal to engage the vehicle braking system to change the speed or direction of rotation of the gearbox. Because changes of speed and/or direction of rotation of the output shaft are assisted by the machine braking system and the clutch is at least partially bypassed, it is ensured that the braking function of the starting clutch is considerably reduced or even eliminated. This leads to a considerable reduction in wear on the clutch, so that its service life can be greatly increased.

  • Patent number: 6821632
Abstract: In a composite of vulcanizable rubber or rubber-like composition with one or more metal reinforcement elements embedded therein, the metal reinforcement element is coated with a polymer or non-cured rubber composition compatible with and co-polymerizable, co-vulcanizable or crosslinkable with said vulcanizable ruber composition to be reinforced, and additionally bearing functional groups either covalently bonding to the metal surface of said reinforcement element or forming covalent bonds with the outward directed first functional groups of a mono- or multimolecular layer of a bifunctional adhesion promoter intercalated between said metal and said coating and bound to said metal by its second functional groups. A cured rubber or rubber-like product, for instance a pneumatic tire, is obtained by vulcanization of such a composite.

  • Patent number: 6817225
Abstract: A vapor trap for detecting VOCs includes a housing, having a first end portion, a second end portion and at least one opening for receiving gas vapor. The housing is at least partially buried in ground with a vapor containment mechanism detachably connected to the first end portion of the housing. The vapor containment mechanism can be removed and replaced with a vapor sampling mechanism. An organic vapor analyzer can be connected in fluid relationship to the vapor sampling mechanism to measure VOCs. Optionally, a vacuum pump can be utilized to draw vapor into the vapor trap and then subsequently into the organic vapor analyzer. There can be a first selector valve located between the vapor sampling mechanism and the vacuum pump and a second selector valve located between the vapor sampling mechanism and the organic vapor analyzer. A preferred organic vapor analyzer is a photo-ionization detector.

  • Patent number: 6814407
Abstract: A lumbar support device has a seat frame, a pair of brackets connected to opposite sided of the seat frame, a pair of flexible members connected to the pair of brackets in such a manner as to respectively form a pair of center sections across the seat frame, and an actuator assembly operatively connected to each one of the flexible members. Each one of the flexible members preferably has a pair of levers on opposite sides of the center sections that rotate about the brackets. In operation, the actuator assembly selectively bows the center portions of the flexible members. The actuator assembly preferably includes a reversible gear and a pair of bowden cables that move one pair of levers when the reversible gear is rotated clockwise and move the other pair of levers when the reversible gear is rotated counter-clockwise.
