  • Patent number: 6783587
Abstract: Compositions useful for the preparation of lightweight, high strength wallboards, and methods of making same are disclosed. The composition includes a slurry of calcium sulfate hemihydrate (stucco), water, starch, and a foam. The foam acts to provide large bubbles within the core slurry, thereby lightening the weight of the wallboard. The composition and method provide wallboards having lighter weights compared to standard wallboard, increased core strength, and increased paper-to-core bonding.

  • Patent number: 6776486
Abstract: A system and method for designing a progressive lens. Mean power is specified at points distributed over the entire surface of the lens and lens height is specified around the edge of the lens. Lens height is determined at the points consistent with the specified mean power and the lens edge height in part by solving a partial differential equation of the elliptic type subject to the lens edge height as a boundary condition. A successive over-relaxation technique may be employed to converge on the solution to the partial differential equation, and an over-relaxation factor may be determined to most efficiently relax the equation.

  • Patent number: 6770247
Abstract: A liquid product vaporizing apparatus for an air deodorizing system includes an air inlet port for drawing a stream of air into the system and directing the stream of air into a vaporization chamber. An atomizing nozzle sprays a mist of liquid deodorant from a liquid reservoir into the vaporization chamber as the stream of air flows through the vaporization chamber. Much of the atomized liquid deodorant vaporizes within the vaporization chamber. The vaporized particles of liquid deodorant mix with the stream of air flowing through the vaporization chamber to form a stream of treated air. Other particles of liquid deodorant condense and coalesce on the sidewall of the vaporization chamber and are drawn by gravity toward the liquid product reservoir so they may be re-sprayed from the atomizing nozzle. The treated air exits the vaporization chamber and is directed through distribution pipes to a plurality of vapor distribution ports.

  • Patent number: 6746143
Abstract: A vehicular headlamp in which the radial beam of radiated light is continuously adjustable between a first position and a second position. Semi-cylindrical lamp shields surround a lamp. The lamp shields are attached to gears which operate to rotate the lamp shields radially about the lamp. An actuator is attached to the gears, such the actuator can turn the gears in order to rotate the lamp shields. The actuator is controlled by a circuit which prevents over-rotation. The actuator may move in very small increments, such that the lamp shields may be continuously adjustable between the first position and the second position. The lamp shields are thus continuously adjustable to vary the projected radial beam of the headlamp.

  • Patent number: 6742918
Abstract: A system for adjusting the direction of a light beam from a headlamp assembly comprises a condenser lens which is movable along an arcuate path. As a vehicle turns a corner, the system moves the condenser lens along the arcuate path, so as to direct the light beam in the direction that the vehicle is moving. Because the condenser lens follows an arcuate path, the light beam is not distorted, allowing for greater angular displacement of the light beam.
