  • Patent number: 7278081
Abstract: An optical transport network data frame structure is configured to provide an in-band data channel. The in-band channel data is contained in the data frame space that would otherwise be allocated to forward error correction (“FEC”) bytes. Consequently, the provision of the in-band data channel does not affect the number of client data bytes contained in the data frame structure. In accordance with a practical embodiment, the data frame structure is compliant with Intra Domain Interface (IaDI) specifications set forth in International Telecommunication Union Telecommunication Standardization Sector (ITU-T) Recommendation Guide For Recommendation, G.709/Y.1331.

  • Patent number: 7270108
Abstract: An engine of the opposed piston, two-stroke, compression ignition type includes provision for injection of a main charge of liquid fuel into the bore of a cylinder between opposed pistons early in a compression stroke to permit the fuel to evaporate and mix with air during the remainder of the compression stroke to the point where the stoichiometric components of the mixture are insufficient for autoignition. Further provision is made for injection of a pilot charge of liquid fuel into the compressed air/fuel mixture later in the compression stroke. The pilot charge provides a stoichiometric component which autoignites, thereby activating ignition of the compressed air/fuel mixture.

  • Patent number: 7254173
Abstract: A high speed CMOS-implemented equalizer architecture as described herein utilizes a digitally controlled analog equalization scheme to equalize intersymbol interference present in an input signal. The equalizer structure includes an inductor high frequency gain boosting stage and a feed forward high frequency equalizer stage connected in series. The equalization performed by each of these gain boosting stages is controlled by one or more digital control signals. The combination of these stages results in the equalization of both amplitude and phase distortion. The equalizer architecture is suitable for use with communication systems that operate at 11.2 Gbps speeds.

  • Patent number: 7244268
Abstract: The present invention is a method and apparatus for conveniently and removably sealing inlet ports within an inflatable thermal blanket. In accordance with the present invention a generally planar sheet of material having a plurality of resilient side extensions extending from a central body is used to close an inlet port within an inflatable thermal blanket. In accordance with the preferred invention, the generally circular portion of the central body has a diameter which is slightly smaller than the diameter of the inlet port. Preferably, for extensions extend from the central body each extension being generally circular. Each extension is preferably formed from the same material used to form the central body, and is sufficiently resilient to be easily flexed and to return to an essentially coplanar sheet when released.

  • Patent number: 7232457
Abstract: A fluid warming cassette for use in a fluid warming system includes a first sheet and second sheet joined with a flexed tensioning rod to form a fluid container with a periphery in which the flexed tensioning rod is disposed to tension the fluid container. The fluid container includes a fluid channel with inlet and outlet ports in fluid communication with the fluid channel. Preferably, the rod is flexed into an open-ended shape such as a “U” shape. So flexed, the rod tensions the fluid container, adding structural stability to the fluid warming cassette.

  • Patent number: 7230970
Abstract: A series of time domain reflectometry (tdr) measurements are made on a channel having nonlinear impairments as well as linear impairments. In a given measurement, the reflected signals from the impairments are digitized and sequentially stored in memory. The parameters characterizing the channel are then changed, preferably by biasing the line by means of a dc current. The changed bias condition modifies the impedance of nonlinear impairments in a nonlinear manner, while the impedance of linear impairments are unchanged by the bias. A second tdr measurement is initiated, and the reflected signals digitized and sequentially stored. The two sets of stored reflected signals are then sequentially compared, and corresponding signals having either the same amplitudes or linearly proportional amplitudes are identified as reflected from linear impairments, while those not the same, nor proportional, are identified as from nonlinear impairments.

  • Patent number: 7228200
Abstract: Products are dispensed from a dispensing apparatus in which products marked with transaction information are received in a chain of bins. In response to control information synthesized from transaction information on the products in the bins and a dispense request, the chain is moved to place a bin at a dispensing station on the dispensing apparatus. At the dispensing station, a mechanism is operated in response to the control information to provide access to the bin. A product in the bin may then be retrieved.

  • Patent number: 7197053
Abstract: A two-bit serializer circuit as described herein includes programmable delay elements having adjustable phase delay that allows for phase tuning of two parallel input signals relative to an output multiplexer select signal. The two parallel input signals are retimed relative to a reference clock signal, and one of the retimed signals is processed by a fixed delay element. This delayed intermediate signal is further delayed using one programmable delay element; the other retimed signal is delayed using another programmable delay element. The delayed output signals generated by the programmable delay elements are utilized as input signals to a high speed output multiplexer. The multiplexer output select signal represents a buffered version of the reference clock signal. The programmable nature of the serializer circuit facilitates tuning to reduce jitter in the serialized output signal.

  • Patent number: 7120951
Abstract: A warming system, mounted to the foot of a bed, warms a person's lower extremities by directing air into the space between the mattress and overlaying blankets. A blower directs air into an elongated distribution chamber having many tiny exit apertures. The chamber is mounted at the foot of the bed, so that air exiting the apertures warms the person's feet. For maximum thermal transfer, the chamber is placed under the sheet and any blankets, but above the mattress cover and fitted sheet. The chamber may be implemented by a length of open cell foam, a hollow manifold with many punctures or other tiny distribution apertures, collapsible pocket, etc. While the person is lying on the bed beneath the blankets, with feet proximate the foot of the bed, the blower directs temperature-regulated air into the chamber and through the exit apertures, thereby warming the person's feet. A temperature regulator ensures a normothermic air temperature (or alternatively, hyperthermic air temperature.
