  • Patent number: 5946306
Abstract: A method for allocating time slots in a mobile communication system including a base station and mobile stations, the base station communicating with the mobile stations on a radio frequency divided into TDMA frames, which are further divided into time slots, of which at least one can be allocated as a traffic channel of one or more of the mobile stations, including the steps of transmitting information from the base station to a mobile station on the allocation of a time slot other than a traffic time slot used by the mobile station as a signalling time slot common to the mobile stations communicating on the radio frequency, starting to use the respective time slot as a signalling time slot common to the mobile stations communicating on the radio frequency in the signalling traffic between the base station and the mobile stations in such a manner that the mobile stations can also communicate in one or more of the traffic time slots on the radio frequency.

  • Patent number: 5944844
Abstract: A receiver and a method for determining connection quality in a cellular radio system. Received signals are decoded with a Viterbi decoder. Decision variables, representing decisions, are converted into a float value format. The converted decision variables are stored in a memory unit. During a traceback step of a Viterbi algorithm, a sum of absolute values of stored ones of the decision variables, which are in a correct path, are calculated and a minimum value of the absolute values of the stored ones of the decision variables in the correct path is calculated. The sum of the absolute values is averaged over a desired measurement period and compared to a predetermined threshold to obtain a bit error rate over a connection. Faulty signal frames are detected based on the minimum value of the absolute values.

  • Patent number: 5939821
Abstract: A color cathode ray tube includes a faceplate and a phosphor screen provided on the inner surface of the faceplate and including red, green, and blue phosphor layers. A color filter layer is interposed between the inner surface of the faceplate and the phosphor screen. The color filter layer includes color filters opposed individually to the phosphor layers of the phosphor screen and having colors corresponding thereto. Color filters of each color have a higher transmittance for light beams with wavelengths which are in a range of .+-.20 nm of the maximum emission spectrum wavelength of the phosphor layers of the corresponding color than for light beams with wavelengths which are outside the range and which are between 400 nm and 650 nm.

  • Patent number: 5939516
Abstract: Modified polyethylene terephthalate polymers, particularly suitable for making carbonated drinks or mineral water bottles by injection (stretch) blow moulding, include a small proportion (from 0.007 to 0.08 mole %) of residues of a polyfunctional hydroxyl compound such as pentaerythritol as a chain branching agent and have (after solid phase polymerisation processing) melt viscosity values of from 300 to 1050 Pa.s (3000 to 10500 Poise) at 295.degree. C. (approximately Intrinsic Viscosity 0.6 to 0.9). The polymers also preferably include from 0.5 to 5 mole % of residues derived from a chain orientation disrupting monomer such as iso-phtalic acid. Best results are obtained in restricted ranges of polymer viscosity, hydroxyl compound and also chain orientation disrupting monomer level. As compared with conventional PET the polymers have the advantage that solid phase polymerisation rates are much improved.

  • Patent number: 5936979
Abstract: A method for frame quality detection and a receiver for implementing the method. For frame quality detection, results A and B are compared with each other and with a predetermined threshold. The result A is formed as a sum/product of soft bit decisions or as a bit error rate from bursts comprising bits from successive frames N and N+1. The result B is formed in the same way from frames N-1 and N. When comparing the result A and the result B with each other, the frame N is determined to be bad if one of the result A and the result B is essentially smaller than another of the result A and the result B. The frame N is also determined to be bad if the both result A and the result B are smaller than the predetermined threshold value. The method improves detection of a bad frame and accordingly reduces interference sound received by a receiver and caused by erroneously interpreted bad frames, especially during periods of silence.

  • Patent number: 5918575
Abstract: A method of manufacturing a connecting rod for a piston engine in which the inner surface of the small hole of the connecting rod is milled to produce a multifaceted surface which includes two deep spot faces along each edge of the small hole and two tapered faces. This milling step yields thin edge regions along each edge of the small hole to serve as a process reference hole with process reference planes. The final step, according to the method of this invention, is to remove the thin edge regions with a rotating cutting tool, thus exposing the tapered faces to serve as chamfered edges without any significant production of burs or distortion of the connecting rod.
