  • Patent number: 4993436
Abstract: A dispenser comprising a container and a mouthpiece is adapted to deliver a volatilizable liquid orally to the user. A volatilizing chamber is defined between the liquid reservoir in the container and the drawing passage in the mouthpiece through which the user inhales. A permeable fluid barrier separates the liquid in the reservoir from the open pore material which fills the volatilizing chamber and limits the amount of liquid which can be aspirated through the open pore material to the user. A vent passage in parallel with the fluid barrier when uncovered and open allows air to be drawn through the open pore material to volatilize any liquid retained thereon. When covered and closed, the vent passage allows liquid to be aspirated from the reservoir through the permeable fluid barrier, the volatilizing chamber, and the mouth piece and into the user's mouth.

  • Patent number: 4876602
Abstract: An electronic focus correction system is provided. The invention (10) is adapted to correct focus aberrations in an electronic imaging system which provides electrical signals representative of a scene of image data. The invention includes a memory (12) for providing sets of weighting coefficients and a two dimensional convolver (18) for multiplying the input electrical signals corresponding to a window in and around each pixel of image data by a set of the weighting coefficients. The two dimensional convolved (18) assigns to each pixel a value equal to the sum of the products of the coefficients times the electrical signals within each window to provide a plurality of weighted output signals. The output signals constitute a corrected image. A controller (20), responsive to the output of the two dimensional convolver (18), is provided to measure the figure of merit for the corrected image.

  • Patent number: 4856172
Abstract: A method is disclosed for the strain-free mounting of a component, such as a mirror, in a manner that allows differential thermal expansion or contraction to take place without distortion of the component. The mounting method makes use of a linear bearing that is rigid in all directions except one. Such a linear bearing is used at two or more points of support on the circumference of a mounting circle or circles. Relative motion in the linear bearings occurs along a line which is an extension of a radius of the mounting circle. The linear bearings each contain two sets of opposed rolamite mechanisms moving in parallel directions in the perpendicular arms of a "Y"-shaped frame.

  • Patent number: 4740673
Abstract: An external circuit that works in conjunction with the existing tank thermostatic controls to control both a heat pump and existing resistance elements in compliance with existing governmental codes. At the same time, this circuit disables the resistive heating elements in the hot water tank and enables the heat pump connected thereto so that the heat pump heats the water in the hot water tank. The control of the operation of the heat pump is provided through the thermostat(s) in the existing tank circuitry in the hot water tank which normally controls the resistive heating elements. At the same time, the electric resistive heating elements remain available for standby use. Further, the circuitry of the invention precludes the simultaneous operation of the electric resistive heating elements in the hot water tank and the heat pump heating unit.
