  • Patent number: 5233771
Abstract: An apparatus for randomly and successively selecting and displaying each one out of a stack of banners comprises a wind-in roller around which the entire stack of banners is wound, front face down, with the leading edges of the banners being staggered in an overlapping arrangement on the periphery of the wound stack. A knife bears against the periphery of the stack, compacts and constringes the banners as the wind-in roller is rotated in the direction opposite the winding direction of the stack. The rotation is stopped when the leading edge of the selected banner is near the edge of the knife. The rotation of the wind-in roller is reversed, causing the knife to lift the leading edge of the selected banner and to peel off that banner and all other banners located above it in the stack. A wind-out mechanism places the peeled off banners into a display frame with the inner, front face of the selected one exposed to view.

  • Patent number: 5230683
Abstract: A multi-functional apparatus for the development or rehabilitation of the entire human musculature is packaged in a compact and lightweight housing. It combines three sets of exercising arms which can be biased against either pushing or pulling movements. The first set has parallel arms working in a front/back horizontal direction. The second set offers incline, back-to-back arms operating in sideways, horizontal direction. The third set features a pair of parallel arms moving in a vertical direction. Each arm can be operated with a hand or a foot. Each exercising arm is part of a removable arm assembly that can be used separately from the apparatus in combination with various attachments as a portable musculature development exerciser.

  • Patent number: 5226156
Abstract: A plurality of parallel processing devices such as compression/decompression units can be tied together to sequentially process equal amounts or sets of data from a stream of data. Hardware in the upper level of each device acts as a demultiplexer to control the acceptance of only its set of data to transfer control to permit the next device to accept data and also stores its set for compaction. Essentially identical hardware in the lower half of each device acts as a multiplexer to control the acceptance of its compacted set of data to store the compacted set and to place the compacted set into the original sequence of the stream of data for storage on the tape media. The lower half reverses its role when the compacted set of data is retrieved from the media to act as a demultiplexer for the decode sequence while the upper half acts as a multiplexer to resequence the decompacted sets into its original stream.

  • Patent number: 5225076
Abstract: The "PURIFIED COFFEE AND ICE WATER DISPENSER" replaces the standard kitchen sink taps. The tap water is directed to a flow director at the base of the spout which adjusts to allow the flow to either run trough a water filter or through the spout directly into the sink. When the tap water is directed through the water filter it fills a pre-heated water reservoir depending on the direction the spout is moved, and is drawn by opening the hot water or cold water spout. Coffee is drawn by adjusting a regulator valve which sends the hot water through a coffee filter and out the hot water spout. The reservoirs are cooled and heated elecrically with thermostats.

  • Patent number: 5225760
Abstract: A rechargeable power pack is shaped and dimensioned to be inserted in the battery compartment of an electrical device. The top of the power pack is exactly symmetrical with the battery compartment cover which it replaces. The power pack houses rechargeable power cells, and has a peripheral wall spaced apart from the sides of the battery compartment mounting the battery contact terminals. Flexible prongs project from the peripheral walls to provide a wiping contact with either a spiral spring negative terminal or stationary positive terminal of the compartment. A top mounted connector allows recharging of the power pack either during or after the operation of the electrical device.

  • Patent number: 5224023
Abstract: An electronic assembly combines a number of commensurate printed circuit boards bonded to a common, flexible, interconnecting substrate in an alternately folded and layered arrangement against an end board that has a comb of terminals for mounting into a motherboard connector. The flexible substrate is sandwiched between half-sections of each board, allowing mounting of components from both faces of the board. The assembly is particularly indicated for high density applications such as memory modules.

  • Patent number: 5210667
Abstract: A thin film magnetic head and a method for making the thin film head by the use of electrical lapping guides includes the use of a resistive lapping guide that has a height dimension and an electrical resistance that optimizes the results of the comparison of the resistive lapping guide to a finished lapping guide. The resistive lapping guide is not lapped during the lapping process. The finished lapping guide is lapped and the resistive comparison between the two determines the stopping of the lapping process. An as-lapped guide which is of the same dimensions as the finished lapping guide after lapping can also be included. An interleaved magnetic head having alternating magneto-resistive read elements and inductive write elements can be precisely lapped by sensing the resistance of the lapping guide elements and using a formula to determine the final resistance of the finished lapping guide to halt the lapping process.

  • Patent number: 5204151
Abstract: A reusable martial arts board comprises two interconnecting and symmetrical half-sections. Along the interconnecting edge of each section a plurality of alternating projections and cavities are shaped and dimensioned to intimately engage a matching row of similar projections and cavities on the opposite board. Each cavity has a slot in its lower section, and each projection has a corresponding radial groove. When a load is applied at the junction of the board being held at opposite ends, the slots expand while the grooves constrict to facilitate the separation of each extension from its nesting cavity. A cushioning pad is mounted under each half-section, along its outer edge, for the comfort of the person holding the martial board.

  • Patent number: 5197402
Abstract: A sailboard harness boom rope has a length of webbing at each extremity which is secured around the boom by a cinching buckle having arcuate side-members with radius commensurate with the outside radius of the boom and at least three cross-members. One end of the length of webbing forms a closed loop engaging a first of said cross-members, then wraps around the boom and is passed back-and-forth between the cross-members in a quickly releasable cinching arrangement.

  • Patent number: 5196242
Abstract: A self-erecting structure consists essentially of a block of open-cell foam material, the outer surface of which has been sculptured into three-dimensional formations completely enveloped by an airtight skin. The structure can be pressed to expel any air or other fluid out of the foam material and any internal void through a bleeding aperture which is then sealed, thus keeping the structure into its collapsed state. Upon opening of the aperture, the foam bounces back to its original state sucking in ambient air and restoring the structure to its full size. Embodiments of the invention include three-dimensional displays, decoys, habitats, toys, and advertising props. The foam structure may be formed by molding, cutting spraying, or compressing. The airtight skin may be applied by molding, bonding, spraying or by singeing the surface of the foam.
