Abstract: A vending machine which comprises a replaceable, transparent loading magazine forming an array of honeycombed slots holding the goods to be dispensed. The magazine is positioned upside down over a plate having a small trap door under each slot. A chute under the trap doors directs the food falling through the trap doors toward a dispensing slot. The trap doors are controlled by electrical signals generated upon selection of the goods by the customer. The selection is made by dialing on a numerical keyboard the identification of the slot holding the desired item. The selection is enabled by a signal issued from the coin box after acceptance of the correct change.
Abstract: A film pack, which includes a stack of instant-processing film units received in a housing, has a slide plate that is permanently coupled to the housing for reciprocal movement between a first position residing in the stack and a second position removed from the stack. Initially the slide plate serves as a dark slide to shield the film units from fogging through an exposure aperture in the housing. When reciprocated, however, such as in a processing camera, the slide plate is guided to enter the stack behind the forwardmost film unit, and to remove that unit from the housing through an exit slot. The slide plate can also support the forwardmost film unit in the exposure position, shield other than the forwardmost unit from exposure when the film units are transparent, and assist in controlling processing of the film units.
Abstract: 3-Oxacaprolactam is prepared by a process which comprises: contacting an organic acid anhydride solution of a cyanoalkoxyalkanoate with hydrogen in the presence of a noble metal hydrogenation catalyst to prepare an amide-ester; and heating the amide-ester in excess water at a temperature above about 200.degree. C.
Abstract: A vapor-recovery system in which a coaxial vapor-recovery fuel dispensing nozzle cooperates with portions of the vehicle fuel receiving and storage system to prevent the escape of vapors into the atmosphere during refueling. The fuel-dispensing nozzle comprises a rigid, tubular vapor-recovery member coaxially arranged around the nozzle discharge spout to define a vapor-recovery passageway therebetween. A seal means is located inwardly of the fuel tank fillpipe opening to sealingly engage the vapor-recovery member when the nozzle discharge spout is operatively inserted into the fillpipe so that substantially all refueling emissions will flow into the vapor-recovery passageway of the vapor-recovery member.
Abstract: Tubular tire for motor vehicles, of the type including an inflatable tubular inner (pneumatic) tube, a bracing, a case of the radial type, a rim strip, some rubber sides, a tire tread and two semi-rigid circular rods. The two rods 7 are set at the level of the bracing 2 at the edges thereof; the rim strip 4 has a width included between approximately 0.25 L and approximately 0.35 L; the transverse section of the tire has an H/L ratio included between approximately 0.5 and approximately 0.6; the sides 5 of the tire have a profile corresponding to that of the top part of the curve which represents the equation of a classic radial tire; the aggregate is such that, seen in transverse section, the tire fairly forms an isostable triangulated system.
Abstract: A power plant for mobile homes, camping trailers, and the like, capable of capturing low powered aeolian energy, storing said energy in the form of compressed air, and delivering it on demand in the form of household electrical current. The device comprises a wind turbine driving an air compressor which feeds a storage tank. On demand, the compressed air drives a turbine coupled to an electrical generator. Various pressure regulators are used to regulate the speed of the generator. The wind turbine is also coupled to an alternator which maintains a bank of electrical batteries charged. A DC motor running on the batteries is used when necessary to boost the drive of the air compressor during periods of heavy or long power drain. Provision is made for rapidly recharging the power plant from either a supply of compressed air or from an AC power source.
Abstract: Atomic hydrogen, for use as a fuel or as an explosive, is stored in the presence of a strong magnetic field in exfoliated layered compounds such as molybdenum disulfide or an elemental layer material such as graphite. The compound is maintained at liquid helium temperatures and the atomic hydrogen is collected on the surfaces of the layered compound which are exposed during delamination (exfoliation). The strong magnetic field and the low temperature combine to prevent the atoms of hydrogen from recombining to form molecules.

Abstract: In combination with an internal combustion engine, a device for the purification of lubricating oil. Installed as a bypass between the outlet side of the oil pump and the crankcase, the device refines contaminated oil by boiling off under a suitable temperature range condition, contaminants such as condensed water, diluted fuel, and products resulting from partial decomposition of the oil. The device comprises a closed chamber admitting oil under pressure at the bottom of the chamber. The oil is forced through a maze formed by a stack of circular vanes before exiting near the top of the chamber and being returned to the crankcase. An electrical heating element under control of a thermostat heats the vanes to a temperature necessary to boil off the contaminants. The vaporized contaminants can escape through a vent in the top portion of the chamber.
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a free-piston regenerative hydraulic engine including a displacer piston which is driven pneumatically by a high-pressure or low-pressure gas. Actuation of the displacer piston circulates the working fluid through a heater, a regenerator and a cooler. The present invention includes an inertial mass such as a piston or a hydraulic fluid column to effectively store and supply energy during portions of the cycle. Power is transmitted from the working fluid to a hydraulic fluid across a diaphragm or lightweight piston to achieve a hydraulic power output. The displacer piston of the present invention may be driven pneumatically, hydraulically or electromagnetically. In addition, the displacer piston and the inertial mass of the present invention may be positioned on the same side of the diaphragm member or may be separated by the diaphragm member.

Abstract: A photographic film unit, including a film disk carried on a hub, has a mass of firm material deposited between the disk and the hub so that the mass, rather than the dimensions of the respective parts, accurately determines the relative film-to-hub alignment. The hub initially fits loosely in a central film-disk aperture. The material, a thermo-plastic, is then melted ultrasonically to flow between the disk and the hub, eliminating the looseness, and maintaining the disk on the hub in accurate alignment. According to one disclosed embodiment, the thermoplastic material adheres a retainer ring to the hub with the film disk captured therebetween. The thermoplastic then fills the interstices between the ring, the hub, and the disk to exclude foreign matter, such as processing fluids.
