Patent number: 4423272Abstract: A process for using hydrogen-containing gas to regenerate a zeolite catalyst comprising at least some crystalline aluminosilicate zeolitic material having pore windows formed by 8-membered rings of oxygen atoms, e.g., ZSM-34, which has been used to promote conversion of methanol and/or methyl ether to light olefins. Contact of such catalysts with hydrogen-containing gas such as hydrogen or synthesis gas at particular regeneration temperatures and pressures can restore the activity of such catalysts either in the presence or absence of organic reactants without forming potentially catalyst-damaging by-products such as water.Type: GrantFiled: December 30, 1981Date of Patent: December 27, 1983Assignee: Mobil Oil CorporationInventors: Nancy P. Forbus, Margaret M. Wu

Patent number: 4419887Abstract: In drilling a borehole, true basement is distinguished from a dike or sill by logging the borehole with a gravimetric logging tool and with a formation density compensated logging tool. The difference between the density and the gravity, as determined by these logs is plotted as a function of depth over the interval extending above the point at which the drilling encountered the dense rock formation. The difference log so obtained distinguishes whether rock formation is true basement or a dense intrusion.Type: GrantFiled: May 13, 1982Date of Patent: December 13, 1983Assignee: Mobil Oil CorporationInventor: Luke S. Patent number: 4420514Abstract: Acrylonitrile polymer film is treated with non-volatile water-miscible glycol plasticizer to improve toughness and other film properties. In a unique, continuous, steady state process polyacrylonitrile aquagel strip is treated with plasticizer additive in concentrated aqueous solution. Aquagel strip is passed at substantially constant rate through a solution treatment bath. The aquagel strip, which may contain at least about 40 weight % water uniformly dispersed in the polyacrylonitrile, is contacted with the aqueous solution during a predetermined residence time in the bath. After passing the treated aquagel strip from the bath, excess aqueous additive solution is removed. The plasticizer additive can be metered to the aqueous solution at concentration greater than the aqueous additive solution of the bath at a rate substantially proportionate to desired steady state uptake of additive for the aquagel strip.Type: GrantFiled: September 1, 1982Date of Patent: December 13, 1983Assignee: Mobil Oil CorporationInventor: Gordon P. Patent number: 4419159Abstract: In the manufacture of plastic bags having interlocking profiled extrusions for the closure, the extruded plastic profile is applied to the moving web of film immediately after extrusion of the profile. The temperature of the moving web is maintained such that the profile adheres to the moving web upon contact and thereafter cools to set the thermoplastic in the desired profile. The moving web of film is maintained under tension so that contraction of the film upon release compensates for the contraction of the locking profile as it cools to prevent puckering of the web. The locking profile is applied to the web in an in-line process which includes folding and heat sealing the moving web of film to form plastic bags.Type: GrantFiled: October 12, 1982Date of Patent: December 6, 1983Assignee: Mobil Oil CorporationInventor: F. John Herrington

Patent number: 4415999Abstract: An improved method of generating synthetic seismograms for use in determining the accuracy of hypothesized subterranean structures is disclosed. Patent number: 4413512Abstract: A method of identifying potential low water cut hydrocarbon producing zones of a formation having significant water saturation (i.e. about 50% or more of the available pore space). The formation is logged to determine its water saturation. The formation rock is sampled at a level at which the log-indicated water saturation is significant. Sample rock is cleaned of hydrocarbons and saturated with brine. The spin-lattice relaxation time of hydrogen nuclei of the water molecules of the wetted sample is determined using nuclear magnetic resonance techniques and is used to determine the surface area of the sampled rock. An irreducible water saturation of the sampled formation rock is determined from the measured surface area and is plotted with the log-indicated formation water saturation at or at and about the level from which the rock sample was obtained.Type: GrantFiled: January 4, 1982Date of Patent: November 8, 1983Assignee: Mobil Oil CorporationInventor: Joseph Zemanek, Jr.

Patent number: 4406171Abstract: A liquid sampling device comprises a cylinder with a piston and a liquid outlet at its top. Liquid inlet ports are disposed at the bottom of the cylinder with one-way entry valves to admit the liquid which is to be sampled into the cylinder. The piston has by-pass ports controlled by one-way valves which permit the sampled liquid to pass upwards through the piston. The device is operated by lowering it into the liquid to be sampled by means of a line attached to a piston rod connected to the piston. The liquid is then drawn into the cylinder by means of the piston and the liquid sample removed.Type: GrantFiled: July 24, 1981Date of Patent: September 27, 1983Assignee: Mobil Oil CorporationInventor: Hubert J. Patent number: 4405999Abstract: Arrays of seismic wave sources and seismic wave sensors are towed over an area to be refraction surveyed in such a way that source and sensor geodetic positioning is duplicated during successive source firings. A plurality of traces having these same source/reflection point/sensor geometry are gathered from those produced by each series of successive source firings at the same location and stacked to generate a new trace having improved signal to noise ratio. Positioning is accomplished by uniformly spacing each of the sensors and sources in their respective arrays, the sources being spaced at integer multiples of the spacing of the sensors, and towing both arrays behind the same boat. If irregular or rapidly changing seismic statics are not present, all traces from common reflection points may also be gathered, corrected for normal moveout and stacked to generate a composite trace having enhanced primary reflection returns as well as improved signal to noise ratio.Type: GrantFiled: December 31, 1980Date of Patent: September 20, 1983Assignee: Mobil Oil CorporationInventor: Robert G. Zachariadis
