Abstract: Crosslinked copolymers of vinyl pyrrolidone (VP) and dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate (DMAEMA) for use in personal care products are made herein in aqueous solution by copolymerization of VP and DMAEMA monomers in aqueous solution using 1-vinyl-3-(E)-ethylidene pyrrolidone (EVP) as the crosslinking agent. The product is a one-phase, aqueous gel of the copolymer which is useful in hair care products.
Abstract: This invention relates to a crosslinked N-vinyl lactam polymer in the form of a stable, clear, flowable homogenized hydrogel composed of microparticles which can be passed through a screen of between about 40 and about 350 mesh size. The invention also concerns a clear, colorless, hydrogel which is required as a carrier for a cosmetically or pharmaceutically active substance such as a hair or skin conditioner and cosmetic or pharmaceutical skin base.

Abstract: This invention concerns a light weight sheet felt material suitable for use as roof and siding underlayment and insulation board facing which comprises on a dry basis(a) 60-80 wt. % cellulose fibers;(b) 15-30 wt. % glass fibers having a diameter of 5 to 16 microns and a length of 3/8-3/4 inch;(c) 4-10 wt. % binder and(d) 0.5-10 wt. % non-asphaltic, sizing agent having a flash point above 150.degree. F. and an evaporation rate less than one which is selected from the group consisting of anionic rosinous and amphipathic ester and anhydride sizes and mixtures thereof. The felt of this invention is of considerably lighter weight and higher porosity than other felting materials used for the same purpose and can be supplied in longer continuous sheet rolls than heretofore practical from a standpoint of handling, shipping, storage, and installation. Also the present sheet felt can be produced on conventional felt making equipment in a one step process.

Abstract: An aqueous product includes discrete, stabilized, microdroplets of an oil and an in situ polymerized water-soluble vinyl monomer containing a thickening agent to suspend the microdroplets homogeneously throughout the medium.
Abstract: The present invention relates to the stabilization of an agricultural chemical concentrate in aqueous solution and the stabilized concentrate which comprises:(a) between about 0.1 and about 20 wt. % of a stabilizer composition comprising:(1) between about 10 and about 90 wt. % of a water-insoluble, non-crosslinked, film forming polymer, and(2) a polymer solubilizing amount of an aromatic petroleum distillate or an oxygen-containing solvent of an N-alkyl pyrrolidone, a C.sub.3 to C.sub.8 alkanol, a dibasic acid lower alkyl ester, an ether having a boiling point above 150.degree. C. or mixtures thereof and(b) between about 80 and about 99.9 wt. % concentrate containing a water-insoluble active agricultural chemical, a solvent for said agricultural chemical and a surfactant for said concentrate. Abstract: A process of synthesizing a peptide using an alkylene oxide as an acid scavenger is provided. A process of the present invention can be used in a solid phase or solution phase synthetic process where peptide synthesis occurs by the sequential addition of N-.alpha.-amino-Boc-protected residues followed by acid deprotection of that N-.alpha.-amino protecting group and scavenging of the acid.
Abstract: The invention relates to a mutant of Bacillus thuringiensis which produces a larger amount of crystal delta-endotoxin with a greater pesticidal activity as compared to the corresponding parental strain. The mutant may also have a larger crystal size as compared to the corresponding parental strain. The crystal delta-endotoxin produced by the mutant Bacillus thuringiensis will have an activity directed towards the same pest(s) as its parental Bacillus thuringiensis crystal delta-endotoxin. The invention further relates to a method for producing such a mutant, compositions comprising such a mutant as well as methods for controlling a pest(s) using these compositions.
Abstract: The present invention provides a process for the preparation of BPD 1,4-diene diester A-ring comprising reacting hematoporphyrin IX dimethyl ester with dimethyl acetylenedicarboxylate followed by purification of the product by a series of fractional crystallizations.

Abstract: A process of producing atracurium besylate that substantially reduces the level of impurities in the final product and avoids the repeated use of ether is provided. In accordance with such a process, N, N'-4,10-dioxa-3,11-dioxotridecylene-1,13-bis-tetrahydropapaverine (Compound 1), methyl benzenesulfonate and a catalytic amount of an insoluble base in a solvent are combined to form a reaction mixture that is maintained for a period of time sufficient for atracurium besylate formation. The reaction mixture is then filtered to remove the insoluble base and the atracuriurn besylate is precipitated.

Abstract: A process for making homogeneous copolymers of vinylpyrrolidone (VP) and 3-dimethylaminopropyl methacrylamide (DMAPMA) which form clear aqueous solutions having high cloud points. The process involves precharging VP and DMAPMA monomers in a predetermined ratio, and then feeding VP and DMAPMA at a predetermined rate, the ratio of the components in the initial charge and the feeding rates for the monomer being selected in accordance with the reactivity rates of the monomers towards copolymerization as opposed to homopolymerization.
