  • Patent number: 4401838
Abstract: Isoprene and butadiene are purified by treating a petroleum refinery C.sub.4 stream or petroleum refinery C.sub.5 stream which contain butadiene or isoprene or relatively pure butadiene or isoprene and carbon disulfide by treatment of these streams with from about 1 to about 7 equivalents of a polyamine. The polyamine reacts with the CS.sub.2 impurity to form the dithiocarbamate salt. The hydrocarbon is then separated from the dithiocarbamate salt and any excess unreacted polyamine by water washing this stream or by flash distilling of the hydrocarbon.

  • Patent number: 4341667
Abstract: The green strength of compositions containing elastomers and/or up to 100 percent of reclaimed rubber is improved by the addition of crystalline or semi-crystalline butene polymers selected from the group consisting of polybutene and interpolymers made from 1-butene with at least one monomer selected from the group consisting of alpha-olefins, non-conjugated dienes, and non-conjugated polyenes. Although reclaimed rubbers are utilized, an unexpected increase in green strength of an unvulcanized blend is obtained. The reclaimed rubbers utilized in the blend may be those which have been devulcanized by mechanical energy, heat, and/or chemical agents. Additionally and preferably, the rubbers may be reclaimed through the use of microwave energy.

  • Patent number: 4254013
Abstract: The green strength of elastomer blends of natural or synthetic cis-1,4-polyisoprene and synthetic elastomers is improved by adding to the chain of the synthetic elastomer an ionogenic compound. The said ionogenic compound can be incorporated into the chain of the synthetic elastomer through conventional polymerization with the monomers forming the synthetic elastomer, and the ionogenic group of the compound will be pendant from the chain or backbone of the elastomer. The ionogenic group is combined with a readily ionogenic metal base or salt. This combination yields blends which have greatly improved green strength as compared to rubber blends known to the art.
