    Abstract: The green strength of elastomers is improved by the addition of semi-crystalline butene polymers selected from the class consisting of polybutene and interpolymers made from 1-butene monomer and at least one monomer selected from the class consisting of alpha-olefins, non-conjugated dienes, and non-conjugated polyenes. The blend composition may also include reclaimed rubber. The semi-crystalline butene polymer is mixed with a desired elastomer such as natural or synthetic cis-1,4-polyisoprene, or a synthetic elastomer made from monomers selected from the class consisting of conjugated dienes having from 4 to 10 carbon atoms, interpolymers of said dienes among themselves or with vinyl substituted aromatic hydrocarbon compounds having from 8 to 12 carbon atoms, or polyalkenylenes. The mixing or blending of the butene polymer and the elastomer may be through conventional methods such as cement mixing or mastication.

    Abstract: Pink discoloration in amine antioxidant and antiozonant emulsions utilized in the latex industry at high pH has been prevented or retarded by the addition of stabilizers selected from dialkylhydroxylamines or mercaptans. These stabilizers are added at a ratio of from 0.1 to 5 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight of the age resister. In addition, a reversal of discoloration in a liquid amine antioxidant has been achieved by mixing the same type of stabilizer directly with the antioxidant.

    Abstract: Dihydric phenols produced by rearrangement of p-dialkylbenzene hydroperoxides are recovered from the rearrangement effluent by distilling byproduct ketone in a distillation tower from a mixture of the rearrangement effluent with benzene and dihydric phenol-containing aqueous feed and extracting impurities and aromatic byproducts with benzene. Benzene containing dissolved impurities and aromatic byproducts, and water containing the dihydric phenol are removed from the bottom of the distillation tower and separated in an extractor column, the dihydric phenol is recovered from its aqueous solution by crystallization and the mother liquor from the crystallization step is recycled to the distillation tower.
