  • Patent number: 4590635
Abstract: A machine for floor maintenance comprising an electric motor in which armature coils are included in a stator and permanent magnets are included in a rotor. The armature coils are disposed substantially radial to the axis of the stator with the axial extent of each coil lesser than the radial extent of each coil, and the permanent magnets of the rotor are disposed substantially radially to the axis of rotation of the rotor with the axial extent of each permanent magnet lesser than the radial extent of each permanent magnet. A three phase switching circuit excites the armature coils in impart rotation to the rotor. As a consequence thereof, the motor has a configuration conforming substantially to the pad or brush of the machine. The pad is attached to the rotor by a pad holder which is formed with a convex surface for engaging the pad.

  • Patent number: 4577837
Abstract: A locking mechanism for extendible telescoping tubular members formed with radial, axially aligned openings. The locking mechanism comprises a hollow housing that surrounds the exterior wall of the outer tubular member. The housing is adapted for movement in the axial direction of the telescoping tubular members along the exterior wall of the outer tubular member. Disposed within the housing is at least one spring loaded lever that pivots about a fulcrum in the housing. Fixed to the opposite end portions of the lever, respectively, are oppositely directed plungers. When the radial openings of the telescoping tubular members are in register, the locking plunger enters the registered openings to restrain axial displacement between the telescoping tubular members.

  • Patent number: 4555882
Abstract: A moisture guard for inhibiting water damage to the interior of a home or building caused by moisture, leaks, rain, snow or the like accumulating at a door frame, window frame or the like. The moisture guard comprises a metallic facing fixed to a plastic molding, such as ABS plastic. The sill of a window frame or the sill of a door frame is seated on the metallic facing. The moisture guard has a z-shaped cross-sectional area. An integrally formed upstanding rear flange is at the rear edge of the base and an integrally formed depending front flange is at the forward edge of the base. At an end of the base is formed an end flange with an upstanding vertical wall and with a vertical side wall. The height of the vertical side wall is coextensive with the height of the upstanding end wall and the vertical side wall extends to the depth of the depending front flange.

  • Patent number: 4552090
Abstract: A bulk material container comprising a shell made from suitable material, such as aluminum or stainless steel. Disposed within the shell is a floatable rigid follower. The vertical position of the floatable rigid follower varies with the level of flowable bulk material stored in the shell. The rigid follower comprises axially aligned, juxtaposed rigid sections with a flexible wiper secured therebetween. A permanent magnet is carried by the rigid follower for movement therewith and means responsive to a magnetic field are attached to the exterior of the shell to detect the height of the permanent magnet. Indicating means are responsive to the operation of the means responsive to a magnetic field for indicating the level of the rigid follower. In a modification of the bulk material container, the wiper is replaced by an inflatable seal and the floatable rigid follower provides a selectively positionable cover for the bulk material container.

  • Patent number: 4539894
Abstract: A single acting steam engine wherein means are provided for auxiliary exhaust through the piston when an auxiliary exhaust poppet valve is open and the auxiliary exchange passages of the piston register with exhaust ports in the cylinder wall. The opening and closing of the auxiliary exhaust poppet valve are responsive to the rate of reciprocation of the pistons. A multiple of said engines may be utilized in combination to provide a multiple cylinder power plant. The engines drive a swash plate, which is formed with recessed, annular thrust surfaces. Projecting at right angles from the recessed, thrust surfaces are exhaust cams that engage valve stems through cam followers for actuating the same. The valve stems actuate the exhaust valves. The throat thickness of the swash plate between the recessed annular thrust surfaces is of uniform dimension along the circumferential paths thereof.
