  • Patent number: 4344282
Abstract: A fan engine having a core engine and a fan duct has bleed ports positioned circumferentially around the compressor housing of the core engine to bleed flow into the fan duct. A strap covers the circumferential line of holes and it is moved between an open and closed position by a U-shaped flexure element which biases the bleed port seal strap to an open position while an actuator moves the seal strap to a position to close the bleed ports. The ends of said U-shaped flexure elements are connected to the ends of the seal strap and are connected to links which insure that the ends of the strap are moved in a predetermined path.

  • Patent number: 4343466
Abstract: An exercising device has a body made from one solid continuous piece of contoured rod using the variable friction resistance rope principle. The body is formed having two spaced rod sections, one end of each of the rod sections bends inwardly and extends towards a center line with the two rod sections then bending to extend substantially parallel to a point where they then bend towards each other and join to form a curved end; this arrangement forms a neck and shoulder portion. The two spaced rod sections taper towards each other where they form short parallel rod sections at the opposite end of the body with the ends of the rods joining to form a second curved end. Resistance is varied by passing the rope around the rod a selected number of turns. The number of loops around the rod directly affect the friction resistance developed.

  • Patent number: 4329206
Abstract: The distillation apparatus includes an upstanding closed boiler which receives a fluid mash, a mixture including alcohol and water, and has a plurality of heating means, including a pre-heat means, to boil the mash and produce a vapor at the top thereof; two heat exchangers are located at the bottom of the boiler; one is heated by fluid from a compressor and one is heated by exhaust gases from an internal combustion engine which drives the compressor. The fluid mash is removed from the boiler at a first point, passed through a solar panel and returned to the boiler at a higher level; the fluid mash is removed from the boiler at a second point, where new mash is added, and both used as the coolant for the engine; when the fluid has cooled the engine it is then passed over an enclosed coil which carries exhaust gases from the engine. It is then returned to the boiler at a higher level; exhaust gases from the engine are injected directly into the fluid mash adding heat thereto.

  • Patent number: 4316480
Abstract: A sequencing valve for distributing fluid from an inlet selectively to one or more of a plurality of outlets. The sequencing valve includes an inlet section, an intermediate section, and an outlet section; a piston valve arrangement controls flow from said inlet section to said intermediate section and a valving member directs flow from said intermediate section into a selected outlet or outlets of said outlet section; said outlet section including a biasing means for biasing said piston arrangement to a closed position; movement of said piston valve arrangement providing for sequencing of said valving member. Said biasing means (a) can provide a fixed biasing force on said piston arrangement; (b) can provide a positive closing force on said piston arrangement to prevent flow therethrough; or (c) can provide a negative force to reduce any closing force on said piston arrangement to zero. Said sequencing valve has a quick connect-disconnect type mechanism for providing easy access for inspection or repair.

  • Patent number: 4305310
Abstract: A timing device has a day dial and a time dial which rotate to control an electrical output in a programmed manner for a predetermined day period. The time dial and day dial operate a pivotally mounted lever to actuate a switch which is connected between electrical input and output, or load, connectors. The time dial operatively contacts one end of the lever and the day dial operatively contacts the other end of the lever when the dials have been preset to do so by the use of actuating pins which can be positioned in the dials. When both ends of the lever are contacted, the switch is actuated. The pins can be held in their respective time dial or day dial in an operative or inoperative position. Manual means are also provided to bypass the time dial and day dial by directly connecting the input connectors to the output, or load, connectors.

  • Patent number: 4280675
Abstract: A kite that is controllable from the ground by a control cord connected to the kite. The cord is connected to a control on the kite for moving a bridle loop which repositions the location of the connection of the cord to the bridle loop with relation to the kite. This movement of the bridle loop alters the flying attitude of the kite. The control includes a camming mechanism for moving the bridle loop in two steps between different positions through a control arm. The camming mechanism is actuated by a spring for the first step when tension on the control cord is released and by the force of the wind on the kite for the second step when the necessary tension is placed back in the control cord, said force of the wind also replacing energy in the spring for the next desired movement of the bridle loop.

  • Patent number: 4272024
Abstract: A sprinkler head has a pop-up riser having a nozzle at the upper end thereof for directing a desired flow of fluid therefrom; said riser contains a turbine drive device for rotating said nozzle in response to fluid passing through said sprinkler head; said nozzle having a sealing surface with a part of said sprinkler head; said nozzle being biased against said part so that fluid passing through said nozzle decreases the force biasing said nozzle against said non-rotating part. A modification of the nozzle and turbine drive is disclosed. The modified nozzle is biased against the non-rotating part at a predetermined sealing load which has a minimum effect by the pressure of the fluid flowing through said nozzle. The turbine drive has a gear drive housing filled with fluid and sealed from contact with said fluid passing through said sprinkler head by a capillary tube.
