  • Patent number: 4398388
Abstract: An afterburner on a turbofan or fan-jet engine contains a fuel system having a fuel control delivering fuel to a plurality of injection zones. As the power lever is advanced, for afterburner operation, fuel is delivered sequentially to the afterburner through different zones until it reaches the last zone. The last zone comprises a set of two axially spaced sprayrings located adjacent the outer wall of the afterburner, one spraying being located upstream of the other spraying. The downstream sprayring has a splash plate located radially inwardly from each nozzle to provide a barrier to the fuel spraying inwardly for directing a portion of the spray downstream over the outward radial portion of the afterburner near the afterburner wall.

  • Patent number: 4375440
Abstract: An apparatus is set forth for the continuous production of highly cooled metal splats. Melted metal is poured onto a spinning atomization disc means whereby liquid metal droplets leave the disc means in a horizontal plane. An annular cooling gas jet flowing normal to the particle plane around the disc deflects the heavier liquid droplets to a conical splat plate which is fixed to rotate with said disc, where the droplets splat and cool, and are ejected by centrifugal force. An annular space is located between said conical splat plate and said rotary atomization means for permitting the gas and other solidified particles to pass downwardly to a shield which directs the particles to a collection area.

  • Patent number: 4353507
Abstract: A sprinkler head has a pop-up riser having a nozzle at the upper end thereof for directing a desired flow of fluid therefrom; the riser contains a turbine drive device for rotating the nozzle in response to fluid passing through the sprinkler head; the nozzle having a sealing surface with a part of the sprinkler head; the nozzle being biased against the part so that fluid passing through the nozzle decreases the force biasing the nozzle against the non-rotating part. A modification of the nozzle and turbine drive is disclosed. The modified nozzle is biased against the non-rotating part at a predetermined sealing load which has a minimum effect by the pressure of the fluid flowing through the nozzle. The turbine drive has a gear drive housing filled with fluid and sealed from contact with the fluid passing through the sprinkler head by a capillary tube.
