  • Patent number: 7488401
Abstract: This invention relates to a friction material and, more particularly, to a wet friction material capable of being manufactured using conventional paper-making processes. Long fibers are used to form a wet-laid homogeneous skeletal matrix, which is reinforced by dispersing particulate materials throughout the friction matrix and throughout the matrix binder, specifically at the interstices of adjacent fibers, to significantly increase the shear strength of the material while having a near negligible effect on fluid flow through the material.

  • Patent number: 7487796
Abstract: A breakaway coupling for a fuel supply hose includes a male valve body interfitting with a female valve body for defining a fuel passage, and the valve bodies enclose axially movable spring biased poppet valve members. The valve bodies are connected by a permanent magnetic coupling system which provides for moving the valve bodies from a connected position to a disconnected position in response to a substantial axial tension force on the valve bodies. In one embodiment, the coupling system includes an annular strike member surrounding the fuel passage and a mating annular magnet member supporting a plurality of circumferentially spaced permanent magnets of rare earth materials. In another embodiment, the valve bodies define a vapor return passage with a poppet valve member and disposed either radially outboard or inboard of the fuel passage. The magnetic coupling system also simplifies reconnecting the valve bodies.

  • Patent number: 7487953
Abstract: A hoist assembly includes a housing having a body sandwiched between metal plates connected to a mounting channel. The housing supports a rotary drive shaft which supports a rotary spool defining a groove receiving a cable having an inner end portion connected to the spool. A drive mechanism connects the shaft to the spool and produces one revolution of the spool for multiple revolutions of the drive shaft. A down stop member moves radially within the groove while engaging the cable, and an alternate one-piece down stop member surrounds the cable and engages the spool on opposite sides of the groove. An elongated wheel support bracket is connected to the outer end of the cable and has opposite inclined straight surfaces for self-centering wheels with center holes of different diameters. Another wheel support bracket has opposite end portions having pins projecting upwardly into lug holes within the wheel.

  • Patent number: 7478993
Abstract: A cooling fan for an engine in a vehicle. Ordinarily, a fan rotates within a shroud, which surrounds the fan. Leakage can occur between the tips of the fan blades and the shroud, wherein fan exhaust moves forward, and then passes through the fan again. The invention reduces leakage by placing a surface downstream of the fan. The surface employs the Coanda Effect, to urge fan exhaust to continue in the downstream direction, and not move forward as leakage air.

  • Patent number: 7458707
Abstract: Headlamp optical module for a motor vehicle comprising, disposed along an optical axis: an elliptical-type reflector with at least one light source placed in the vicinity of a first focal point of the reflector; a converging lens placed in front of the reflector and admitting a focal point located in the vicinity of the second focal point of the reflector; and a light recovery means suitable for collecting a portion of the flux from the source and for sending it forward. An ellipsoid-type reflector is provided at the front, in the upper portion of the module, this reflector focusing a portion of the rays issuing from the source in the vicinity of a second focal point located at the front, lower than the focal point of the lens, and the light recovery means has an input face, in proximity to which is located the second focal point of the ellipsoid-type reflector.

  • Patent number: 7449846
Abstract: A ballast that comprises a DC-DC converter, a DC-AC converter, a lighting voltage generator and a control unit. A difference in voltage between input terminals of the lighting voltage generator is generated by a voltage step-up circuit of the “self-boosting” type from a DC voltage supplied by the DC-DC converter and an auxiliary voltage source V0. The ballast makes it possible to obtain a voltage level V2 that is equal to twice a first voltage level V1 increased by the auxiliary voltage V0.

  • Patent number: 7447910
Abstract: When confidential data or areas of an EDP system (2) are accessed by a user (9), the user is granted access only if he registers (16) with the EDP system correctly with a user name and a password and, in addition, can identify himself as having access authorization using an access code (21), to which only he has access, from a database (5.2). The database is stored on a chip card (5), and access to the database has dual protection. Access to the access codes in the database is given only to that user who can correctly authenticate himself (12) to the chip card using biometric data, for example. In addition, the access codes in the database can be accessed only by a program (5.1) which is stored on the chip card and which can be activated only following correct authentication to the chip card by the user and which needs to have correctly authenticated itself (20) directly on the database using an ID incorporated in the program code.

  • Patent number: 7441584
Abstract: A metal alloy is heated to a molten state and then poured into a shallow shot chamber defined by a shot sleeve and a shot piston of a vertical die cast press. A homogenizing member having L-shape arms projecting outwardly from a vertical shaft is inserted into the molten metal, and the shaft and arms are simultaneously rotated and orbited by a six axes robot for moving more solidified semi-solid metal cooled by the shot sleeve and shot piston into a more liquified semi-solid metal within a central portion of the shot chamber to form a homogenizing slurry. The force required to move the homogenizing member is used to determine the solid fraction of the slurry and to stop the homogenizing process after a predetermined force is detected. A hydraulic cylinder actuates the piston to transfer the semi-solid slurry upwardly from the shot chamber into a die cavity.
