Abstract: An aerated cementitious composition is produced by feeding a mixture comprising cement and foaming agent to a mixing chamber open to atmosphere together with a feed of liquid. The ingredients are mixed and the wetted mixture pumped to a desired site, the capacity of pumping being greater than the feed rate of the ingredients into the mixing chamber such that air is drawn into the mixing chamber.

Abstract: A method of preventing the growth of microorganisms on the surface of a substrate in contact with the environment, while simultaneously preventing corrosion of these substrates by depositing nickel-63 onto the substrate.

Abstract: A clutching mechanism for a seed meter incorporates a spring wrapped clutch for selectively disengaging a seed meter on a seed drill in order to tramline fields for agricultural purposes. A common shaft rotates and dispenses seeds from a series of seed meters on the drill. The spring wrapped clutch of the present invention allows for disengagement of singular meters from the rotational actuation of the common shaft. The seed metering incorporates a rotatable drum which dispenses the seed as it is turned. The drum is attached to a driven element which is further attached to a spring. The spring compressibly holds a driving element attached to the rotation shaft. A selective engagement of the spring causes a decompression on the driving element and consequently, stops the rotation of the seed drum within the seed meter.

Abstract: The external profile of a piston rod employed in the engines of passenger cars ensures smoother piston travel on start-up and during partial loading. In these operating ranges, piston ring parts may impact on the sliding surface of the cylinder on the counter-pressure side and give rise, amongst other things, to undesirable noise. To obviate such impacts, the piston rod tapers at the end facing the crankshaft space on the counter-pressure side, and has a transversal slit (3) at its junction with the piston head and an adjustment strip (4) in the vicinity of the said slit. An additional adjustable strip (5) may also be provided in the lower part of the rod, on the pressure side. As a result of the position of the adjustment strips, the special design of the piston and the special shape of the rod casing, the piston head aligns itself at a slight angle to the counter-pressure side, with increasing play between the piston head and the sliding surface of the cylinder in the said operating ranges.

Abstract: A tire bead breaker which can be portable comprising a base upon which a tire and wheel can be located and having a stop at one end to restrict outward movement of the wheel and tire, an arm assembly connected to the base at a spacing from the stop to permit a wheel and tire to be located therebetween which carries a breaker assembly pivotally connected thereto which assembly includes telescopic members one of which is connected to the arm and the other of which has a breaker plate at its free end the arrangement being that the breaker plate can be moved towards and located between the rim and the tire and by relative movement between the plate and the stop the breaker plate can move inwardly and a hydraulic or screw jack provided to rotate the breaker assembly about its pivot to effect separation of the tire from the rim.

Abstract: The invention provides a rotary dryer for tobacco products comprising a cylinder arranged for rotation about an inclined axis and having means for feeding tobacco into one end of the drying cylinder and means for conveying dried tobacco from the other end of the drying cylinder, heating means arranged to heat the cylinder, a housing arranged to contain the drying cylinder and sealed to be substantially airtight, means for reducing pressure in the drying cylinder below atmospheric pressure; and preferably but not essentially, means for superheating steam, means for injecting steam adjacent the superheating means, for conveying steam leaving the injection means at one end of the cylinder to the superheating means, and ducting for conveying superheated steam for said superheating means to the other end of said cylinder.

Abstract: The present invention provides a heavy duty seal for hasps and latches in combination with a light duty tamper-indicating seal, which extends through the heavy duty seal for indicating tampering or breaking of the heavy duty seal. A sheathed bundle of optical fibers extends through aligned bores in parts of a heavy duty bolt type seal. End portions of the bundle are locked in a locking block and terminal ends of the fibers are exposed in surfaces of the block for observation and indications of light transmittal.

Abstract: The trailing drum of a double-ended ranging drum shearer is steered in a seam by producing an algorithm which determines, as a result of information derived from signals from the machine dependant on its tilt, direction and amount of movement along a face being cut. The height of the leading drum is used as a reference from which to determine the optimum position of the trailing drum in order that a constant quality of desired mined material is obtained.

Abstract: A portable standing attachment for wheelchairs has first and second identical side assemblies constructed of front members, side members and stabilizers. The front member has a lower end pivoted on a pin extending laterally from a lower forward frame member of the wheelchair. A forward end of the side member is hinged near an upper end of a front member, and a rearward end of the side member is connected to the backrest frame of the wheelchair. An upper end of the stabilizer is pivotally connected to the front member. The stabilizer extends forward and downward through a guide on the side of a footrest. An upper cross bar has one end pivoted to an upper end of a front member. The other end of the cross bar telescopically connects to the upper end of the other frame member. Convertible armrests/knee supports are connected to the front members. Sliding upward on an armrest releases its upper end to pivot across the frame and to attach to the opposite front member after first twisting the cushion 180.degree.

Abstract: A connector has one end for receiving a standard auxiliary line adaptor hub and an opposite end receivable over an intravenous line port in a male-female interference fit. A needle is provided in the interior of the connector and punctures a sealing membrane provided over the line port. After the needle has been properly positioned in the line port, an external ring is slid axially over the male-female connection to tighten the interference fit.For a heparin flush, a cylinder has two chambers, one for holding heparin and another for holding saline. The two chambers are separated by a membrane. A rubber stopper is provided at one end of the cylinder and is provided with a screw connector for receiving a plunger. The opposite end is provided with a needle having inner and outer points, the needle being recessed into an end portion of the cylinder.The outer end of the needle is provided with a sheath which is removed prior to sliding an intravenous line port into the cylinder.

Another planar portion extends radially outward from the rim for maneuvering the seat up or down. Abstract: A break-away coupling device for use with a hoseline or pipeline for conveying hazardous fluids. The coupling comprises coupling members (10, 11) of generally tubular form for connection at their outer ends (14, 15) to a hoseline, pipeline or other fluid-supply or fluid-delivery point, and provided at their inner ends with complementary faces (12, 13) which are held in sealing engagement by frangible connectors (18). The coupling members have valve seats (45), and valve members (30, 31) which are urged towards closing engagement with said seats but are usually being held against the springs (36) and out of engagement with the seats until the coupling members are separated on breaking of the connectors. An annular separating ram (51) is provided to apply pressure between the coupling members which will break the connectors and separate the coupling members, whereupon the valve members will seat under spring action and minimize spillage of the fluid being conveyed.

Fluorescent tubes extend across and downward, in the reflector, crossing at a central point within an upper portion of the reflector. Abstract: Apparatus for extracting and burning methane gas from a landfill refuse site comprises a first venturi to which is fed compressed air. The venturi is connected to a well in the site and acts to draw methane from the well. The methane/air mixture is fed to a second venturi for enrichment with air. The enriched mixture is fed to a burner for combustion.Preferably the compressed air is supplied by a diesel driven compressor.

Abstract: A two-way cable distribution system for offices and office/apartment complexes wherein a single cable is used to interconnect tenants or owners with video/audio, facsimile, security and data services; with each user being allocated dual TV channels for the simultaneous transmission and reception of programs--all with complete privacy. User's multi-channel remote switching and processing converters (RSPC) are mounted in the switching control center where they also double as precision frequency controlled channel processors and eliminate problems of switching video crosstalk that occurs with IF or baseband switching. Spectrum capacity on each riser exceeds 800 MHz and enables more than 60 users per riser, each to be assigned 12 MHz bandwidth, without the need for line extenders amplifiers. Trunking of signals between buildings within a complex is not required because of riser transmissions that assign user drops in descending frequency along the length of the cable.

Abstract: The personal security system transmits a picture of an object, such as a criminal suspect, and the identification of a portable transmitter, such as the social security number of the user, to a receiver at a remote location. Time of transmission is recorded. If a crime occurs, the time, picture of the suspect, and identification of the victim are obtained from a recorder at the receiver. A potential victim of a crime points his portable personal security unit at a criminal suspect and presses an activating switch. The unit senses available light on the object and provides a flash if required. At the same time focusing an aperture control is performed and an image of the object is admitted to an image recorder which is a focal plane sensor array. Image data from the focal plane sensor array is processed in an image data processor and the processed image data is fed to a cellular communication transmitter for transmitting to the remote receiving station.

Abstract: A weighting system for wood golf club heads comprising first, second and third weight receiving sockets and at least one set of removable and interchangeable weights receivable in the sockets. The first and third sockets are disposed in the heel and toe portions of the club head with axes substantially parallel to the face portion. The second socket is disposed between the first and third sockets, with a longitudinal axis substantially perpendicular to the face portion of the club head. The weights are made of materials of varying density. Weighting changes can easily be effected by removing an existing set of weights and replacing them with a set made of greater or lesser density material. Preferably, the weights are screw-threaded into the sockets.
