Abstract: A forced gas electric heater has a serpentine heating element in series with a preheat coil. Gas to be heated first flows through the preheat coil before flowing through the serpentine heating element. A thermistor is disposed between two adjacent turns of the preheat coil. The thermistor controls the "on" time of a solid state power control device which is in series with the preheat coil and the serpentine heating element.

Abstract: Composite powders containing a first group of metals of iron, cobalt, nickel and molybdenum in specific ratios and one or more oxidizable metals can be formed by forming an aqueous solution containing first group of metals, forming solid material of the metals from the solution, reducing the solid material to a metallic powder, combining that powder with one or more easily oxidizable metals in an non-oxidizing atmosphere.

Abstract: An insulation displacement terminal comprises a clamp having an internally threaded tubular portion to accommodate a screw. An insulated telephone wire can be inserted into an aperture in the clamp. When the screw is screwed all the way into the clamp, a cylindrical blunt edge thereon will displace the insulation on the wire and make contact with the metal core of the wire. There is a sealing material in the terminal to seal around the point of contact. A well and axial hole in the screw can accommodate sealing material that is displaced by the screw.

Abstract: An electrical circuit breaker comprises a metal base having a raised step to which an elongated compensator bimetal is welded. A metal cover is secured to the base but is insulated therefrom. An elongated armature bimetal is welded to a step in the metal cover and is substantially parallel to the compensator bimetal. The high expansion sides of both the compensator and the armature face downwards, towards the base. An insulated heater wire is wrapped around the armature and is electrically connected between the armature and the base.
Abstract: A brazing alloy for brazing ceramics has the following composition, in weight percent: 1 to 4 silicon; 1 to 5 titanium; 0.5 to 6 aluminum; 89 to 96 copper.
Abstract: Potassium impurity is removed from ammonium molybdate by dissolving the ammonium molybdate in hot acid, allowing the acid solution to cool whereby the ammonium molybdate precipitates out of the solution as molybdenum trioxide and then separating, washing and drying the molybdenum trioxide.

Abstract: A composite consists of a ceramic brazed to another ceramic by means of a joint layer therebetween. The joint layer comprises a porous metal interlayer and an active brazing filler metal penetrating through the porous metal interlayer.
Abstract: A self-resistance-heated electrically-conductive refractory evaporating boat has inclined cavities on its two horizontal surfaces, the cavities being parallel to each other.
Abstract: A five pin protector module for telephone circuits comprises two input pins, two output pins and a grounding pin, all on an insulative base. The electrical current path between each input pin and its respective output pin comprises an electrically conductive arm, a current responsive assembly and an electrically conductive helical spring. The module contains a bidirectional voltage sensitive switch which prevents input voltage surges from reaching the output but, instead, conducts them to a grounding member to which the grounding pin is attached.

Abstract: Iron is used as a dopant in barium titanate semiconductor ceramic material to increase the positive temperature coefficient of resistance thereof. By the use of about 0.010 to 0.500 weight percent silica and about 0.0075 to 0.0190 weight percent iron, room temperature resisitivity can be kept adequately low while the temperature coefficient of resistance is significantly increased.
Abstract: A small amount of boron nitride is added to a mixture of silicon nitride, aluminum nitride and yttrium oxide, prior to sintering, to increase modulus of rupture and/or elastic modulus of the sintered material.
Abstract: Semiconductors can be damaged by overheating and to prevent such damage, the present invention utilizes a PTC thermistor which is in a heat sensing relationship with the semiconductor. Such thermistors demonstrate a sharp rise in resistance when the body temperature approaches or reaches the anomaly temperature. Electronic circuitry is designed to be sensitive to the resistance increase of the thermistor (caused by the semiconductor's heating) and shuts off the power to the semiconductor before it overheats.
Abstract: A sintered silicon nitride ceramic having high stiffness consists of, in weight percent, 10.1 to 13.5 aluminum nitride, 6 to 7.5 yttrium oxide, 0.05 to 5 molybdenum disilicide, balance silicon nitride.
Abstract: A flat-bottomed quartz glass crucible for the manufacture of monocrystalline silicon is made by disposing granular quartz particles on a flat base in a cylindrical mold. A vacuum is drawn on the particles through vacuum holes in the base to retain the particles on the base while the base and mold are rotated, and while the particles are heated to fuse them into a quartz glass crucible shape.
