Abstract: In the manufacture of a quartz glass crucible of low bubble content, a first layer of granular quartz material is disposed on the interior of a rotating mold through the walls of which a vacuum can be drawn. A second layer of finer quartz material is then disposed on the first layer. The quartz material is then heated, melted and fused to form a crucible.

Abstract: A temperature compensator for a pressure operated fuel regulator is used in combination with a heat recuperator to regulate fuel flow. In the recuperator, air to be used for combustion of the fuel is heated. Some of the heated air is supplied to the compensator, which comprises a housing having an opening for bleeding air therethrough. The rate of bleeding through of the air, and consequently the pressure drop across the compensator, is dependent on the temperature of the air supplied to the compensator.

Abstract: Titanium-silver alloys containing specified amounts of silver and titanium and controlled amounts of copper, aluminum and mixtures thereof are suitable for brazing ceramics, other non-metallic and metallic materials. These alloys also may contain controlled amounts of tin, palladium, indium and mixtures thereof.
Abstract: A transient voltage surge suppressor for an AC powerline comprises two semiconductor voltage limiting devices before a low pass LC filter and a third semiconductor voltage limiting device after the filter. The suppressor can be plugged into a 120 volt receptacle for protection of sensitive electronic equipment.
Abstract: An electrical contact formed of a mixture of finely divided electrically conductive metal doped with graphite or cadmium oxide. A thin coating of the electrically conductive metal is disposed upon the side of the contact which is adapted to be welded or brazed to an electrically conductive support. The electrical contact is made by mixing the finely divided cadmium oxide and pressing the mixture into a desired shape. A slurry of conductive metal is then sprayed on one side of the contact. After coating, the contact is sintered at a temperature less than the melting point of the electrically conductive material, whereby the contact is formed and the coating is firmly attached to it. The invention is particularly useful with silver or copper-based electrical contacts.
Abstract: In the manufacture of an alkaline earth haloapatite phosphor, raw materials including calcium carbonate are blended together and then fired. However, before blending, the particle size of the calcium carbonate is first determined, and the quantities of some of the other raw materials are adjusted in a manner dependent on said particle size.
Abstract: A ceramic part is joined to a metal part by means of a molybdenum copper composite interlayer disposed between, and brazed to, the ceramic part and the metal part.
Abstract: An improved diesel fuel heater wherein a predetermined quantity of fuel is captured within the heater in a reservoir defined therein. This quantity is heated by the heater's positive temperature coefficient (PTC) thermistors (and heat conductive mounting plate) to assure a heated quantity of fuel will be pumped into the fuel system's filter element to enhance de-waxing thereof.
Abstract: A spool for L-shaped brazing alloy strip comprises a flange with a hub acutely angularly disposed thereto. The strip is wound on the spool so that the turns nest into each other.
Abstract: A telephone interface connector comprises a plug inserted into a jack and protected against the environment by a resilient sealing member. Encapsulants seal the wires at the points at which the wires exit the plug and the jack.

Abstract: A PTC heater has passages therethrough through which a fluid can flow to be heated. The passages are separated from each other by thin walls of PTC material. Electrical current flow is in a direction normal to the thin walls. A short duration pulse of high electric current is applied to the heater in order to eliminate any electrical shorts between passages.
Abstract: A support for a lead frame for use with an integrated circuit chip is made of electrically insulative material, preferably a thermoplastic. There is a pad area at the center of the support in which an IC chip can be disposed. Proximate the periphery of the pad are raised spaced-apart projections. The spaces between the projections define slots in which the leads of a lead frame can be disposed.

Abstract: As intermetallic composite, bar evaporation source constructed from a mixture of borides and nitrides for use in the evaporation of metals, e.g., aluminum, is arc sprayed with a layer of the metal to be subsequently evaporated therefrom before use. The coated layer of the metal to be evaporated increases the wettability of the bar source cavity and creates greater electrical stability when compared with similar but uncoated bars.
Abstract: A circuit breaker comprises a two piece metal enclosure, a cover and a base. Disposed within the enclosure is a PMB bimetal which is fastened to a step in the cover. The opening time of the circuit breaker can be adjusted by means of the step.
Abstract: An improved (Gd.sub.1-x Tb.sub.x).sub.2 O.sub.2 S X-ray phosphor, wherein x is from 0.0003 to 0.0045, and persistence causing impurity ions are kept below 5 ppm, exhibits increased brightness in the blue region of the spectrum, while exhibiting acceptably low persistence for X-ray intensifying screen applications.
Abstract: In the manufacture of a heat recuperator, a ribbed layered cross-flow ceramic core is inserted into a metal housing. The core has divider ribs in the air-flow layers to provide triple pass air flow through the core. There are triple pass gaskets on the air-in and air-out faces of the core, between said faces and cast ceramic landed surfaces of the housing.
Abstract: A heat recuperator comprises a triple pass cross flow ceramic core within a six sided metal housing. The four sides of the housing through which air or gas flows have cast ceramic material thereat with landed surfaces thereon which are in gasket-sealing engagement with a respective face of the core. Disposed between the closed sides of the housing and the solid faces of the core are spring means for exerting compressive force to the solid faces.
Abstract: A CdS:Cu,Cl electrophotographic material suitable for use in the xerographic mode, contains 200 to 300 ppm Cu, 0.02 to 0.06 percent Cl, and has very good contrast voltage.
Abstract: Monolithic Si.sub.3 N.sub.4 ceramic bodies having a lower density outer layer are produced by a one-step sintering in an ambient atmosphere of water vapor and a nonreactive diluent gas, and are useful, for example, as abradable seal and impact resistant structural elements.
