Abstract: The present invention relates to foam compositions which are expanded with hydrohalocarbon blowing agents in the presence of additives which decrease the formation of haloalkenes during the polymerization. Thus, the present invention provides compositions comprising polyisocyanate, polyol, hydrohalocarbon blowing agent, catalyst, surfactant, and at least one additive wherein the additive is capable of decreasing the amount of decomposition of said dehydrohalocarbon blowing agent to haloalkenes during polymerization of the polyisocyanate and the polyol.Depending upon the polyol and polyisocyanate used and the quantity of polyisocyanate used, the compositions may be used in pour-in-place molded foams; rigid urethane spray foams; rigid high and low density foams for slabstock, froth foams, and molded foams; rigid laminated boardstock; or specialty foams.

Abstract: A method for preparing polyurethane and polyisocyanurate foams which comprises reacting and foaming a mixture of ingredients which will react to form the polyurethane or polyisocyanurate foams in the presence of a blowing agent comprising a partially fluorinated alkane having four or five carbon atoms and a tertiary structure. The method is advantageous because partially fluorinated alkanes having a tertiary structure have zero ozone depletion potentials, are nonflammable, and have higher solvency toward polyols.
Abstract: Azeotrope-like compositions comprising 1,1-dichloro-1-fluoroethane; dichlorotrifluoroethane; ethanol; and alkane having 5 or 6 carbon atoms are stable and have utility as degreasing agents and as solvents in a variety of industrial cleaning applications including cold cleaning and defluxing of printed circuit boards and dry cleaning.

Abstract: The present invention provides a process for the conversion of hazardous hexafluoroarsenic acid or any salt thereof to arsenic acid or salt thereof which can be rendered nonhazardous. In particular, the hexafluoroarsenic acid or salt is converted to arsenic acid or salt which can be converted to a water insoluble salt. Known insolubilization and stabilization technology then renders the material nonhazardous. The present process involves converting hexafluoroarsenic acid or salt thereof contained in an aqueous mixture to arsenic acid or salt thereof.
