Abstract: An assistive apparatus and method for remote control of an appliance by a subject are provided. The apparatus can comprise a tracer unit affixed to the tongue of the subject such that a change in position of the tongue changes position of the tracer; at least one sensor for detecting a position of the tracer unit; and a transmitter for transmitting a sensor signal to an appliance based on the detected position of the tracer unit, wherein the sensor signal effects control of the appliance. A method for tracking movement, position, or both of a tongue in a subject using the assistive apparatus is also provided.
Abstract: The subject matter described herein relates to methods, systems, and computer program products for providing Internet protocol multimedia subsystem (IMS) services in response to advanced intelligent network (AIN) triggers. According to one aspect, a method for providing an IMS service in response to an AIN trigger is provided. The method includes detecting the firing of an AIN trigger concerning an IMS registered non-IMS device. An IMS service to be provided in response to the AIN trigger is identified. The IMS service is provided.
Abstract: The present invention provides a service node, which extends the services of a carrier's multimedia subsystem (MS), such as an IP multimedia subsystem (IMS), to enterprise networks in an efficient and effective manner. As such, MS subscribers gain access to enterprise services in addition to the carrier's services provided via the carrier's circuit switched subsystems (CS) and packet subsystems (PS). The service node acts as a liaison between enterprise application servers and the MS, such that the enterprise application servers appear as MS application servers to the MS. The service node provides user identifier and protocol translation between enterprise and MS user identifiers and protocols, respectively. As such, enterprise application servers can access the MS as well as be accessed by the MS to support user mobility, with continuity of services, between the enterprise and carrier networks.
Abstract: The subject matter disclosed herein includes methods, systems, and computer program products for selecting among different global title translation modes based on a message originator and performing global title translation based on the selected mode. According to one method, a global title translation mode is selected based on a message originator. A global title translation lookup is performed in accordance with the selected mode. If the global title translation according to the selected mode fails, a lookup may be performed according to at least one additional mode in a global title translation mode hierarchy.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a brush 10 suitable for coming into contact with conducting plates 12 provided on an electric motor commutator 11. According to the invention, the brush has a means 15 for adjusting its pole coverage between the start of life of the motor and its stabilized operation. This is therefore a brush with pole coverage that can be varied over its operating life. Such a brush is more particularly fitted into a motor for a ventilation (air conditioning) system for motor vehicle.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer program products for firewall policy optimization are disclosed. According to one method, a firewall policy including an ordered list of firewall rules is defined. For each rule, a probability indicating a likelihood of receiving a packet matching the rule is determined. The rules are sorted in order of non-increasing probability in a manner that preserves the firewall policy.
Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer program products for implementing automatic protection switching for media packets, such as ATM cells or IP packets that carry media content, in a device that includes an Ethernet switching fabric are disclosed. According to one method, first and second packet network interfaces of the device are configured to function as working and protection APS interfaces. At least one of a media processing resource and an Ethernet switch fabric of the device are configured to replicate egress media packets from the media processing resource to the working and protection APS interfaces. Egress media packets from the media processing resource are forwarded to the working and protection APS interfaces via the switch fabric. Ingress media packets received at the working APS interface are forwarded to the media processing resource via the Ethernet switch fabric. Media packets received at the protection APS interface are discarded.
Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer program products for providing function-parallel firewalls are disclosed. According to one aspect, a function-parallel firewall includes a first firewall node for filtering received packets using a first portion of a rule set including a plurality of rules. The first portion includes less than all of the rules in the rule set. At least one second firewall node filters packets using a second portion of the rule set. The second portion includes at least one rule in the rule set that is not present in the first portion. The first and second portions together include all of the rules in the rule set.
Abstract: The presently disclosed subject matter discloses isolated ADAM 10 modulating peptides and related compounds useful for studying the biological functions of ADAM 10 and for the treatment of diseases such as cancer, neurological disorders, asthma, and allergic responses, and disorders characterized at least in part by the presence of one or more of inflammation, excess cell proliferation, angiogenesis, and excess soluble CD23. In one aspect, the presently disclosed subject matter provides isolated mouse and human ADAM 10 prodomain comprising the sequence set forth in SEQ ID NOs 1-8, or a sequence having at least 95% homology to any of SEQ ID NOs 1-8 and having the functionality of modulating ADAM 10 activity.
Abstract: In one embodiment, a method includes receiving a media signal associated with a session established based on a session request. The session request is defined at a session exchange device associated with a media over internet protocol (MoIP) network. The method also includes sending a portion of the media signal to a dual-tone multi-frequency (DTMF) analysis module during a sampling time period after a non-sampling time period.

Abstract: The present invention relates to downhole tools, and in particular an underreamer tool for use in a wellbore of an oil or gas well and a method of actuation. In an embodiment, the underreamer tool has body having a longitudinal axis and a fluid conduit, a tool element and an actuation device configured to urge the tool element relative to the body from a first configuration into a second configuration. In this embodiment, a portion of the tool has a curved actuation surface and the tool element is urged across the curved actuation surface the tool element is moved radially with respect to the body of the tool. Typically, the actuation device may include a piston driven by pressure of fluid circulated through the fluid flow conduit.
Abstract: In a communications network having plural nodes, a first node receives a capability list that has a predefined format and includes plural entries identifying corresponding data processing functions supported by one or more nodes along a communications path of a communications session involving the first node. The first node adds at least one additional entry into the capability list in response to determining that the first node supports a data processing function that is not identified in the capability list.
Abstract: In one embodiment, a method includes receiving a first internet protocol (IP) packet having information associated with a dual-tone multi-frequency (DTMF) signal. The information of the first IP packet is configured based on a protocol associated with a first layer of a media over internet protocol (MoIP) network. The first IP packet is associated with a destination endpoint. The method also includes producing a second IP packet having information associated with the DTMF signal. The information of the second IP packet is configured based on a protocol associated with a second layer of the MoIP network and a DTMF conversion policy associated with the destination endpoint. The second layer is different than the first layer.

Abstract: Methods for identifying a candidate compound with an ability to modulate cation transport through a transient receptor potential (TRP) channel in a cell are disclosed. The methods can include (a) providing a cell expressing a recombinant nucleic acid sequence encoding an transient receptor potential (TRP) channel gene product or a functional fragment or derivative thereof; (b) contacting the cell with the candidate compound; (c) comparing cation transport in the cell in the absence of the candidate compound with cation transport in the cell in the presence of the candidate compound; and (d) identifying a candidate compound through the comparing step that modulates cation transport in the cell through the transient receptor potential (TRP) channel. Also disclosed are nucleic acid and amino acid sequences for insect TRP channel gene products, antibodies that bind to the disclosed TRP channels, and recombinant host cells the include the disclosed biosequences.

Abstract: Magneto-rheological clutch and wheel transmission apparatuses and methods are provided. According to one aspect, a magneto-rheological clutch system can include first and second drive members and first and second driven members. A first gap can be present between the first drive and first driven members. A second gap can be present between the second drive and second driven members. A drive wheel and a snow blower impeller can be connected to the first and second driven member, respectively. First and second MR fluids can be disposed in the first and second gaps, respectively. A first magnetic field can be applied to the first MR fluid for engaging the drive wheel. A second magnetic field can be applied to the second MR fluid for engaging the snow blower impeller. The provided apparatuses and methods can also be applied to mower blades and wheels.
Abstract: A combination grass discharge and mulch plug insert apparatus and method are provided where the insert can include a first end configured for communication with a discharge opening of a lawnmower and a second end also configured for communication with the discharge opening. The first end can be configured for preventing discharge of grass clippings from the lawnmower, whereas the second end can be configured for allowing discharge of grass clippings through the second end. Further, the insert can be reversible such that it can be oriented in either a first position in which the first end is inserted into the discharge opening or a second position in which the second end is attached to the discharge opening. As a result, the lawnmower can be easily converted between mulching and side- or rear-discharge modes of operation.
