  • Patent number: 8100316
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for joining at least two aircraft fuselage segments (2, 3) by friction stir welding with a tool (8) generating friction heat for the partial plasticisation of an edge region (6, 7) of at least one of the two aircraft fuselage segments and a counter bearing (10) for absorbing the force exerted by the tool (8) on at least one of the two aircraft fuselage segments, wherein at least one of the two aircraft fuselage segments comprises at least one rib (17) and/or one stringer (16). In order to minimise the necessary expense incurred in association with the production aids for the FSW process, it is proposed that the at least one rib (17) and/or the at least one stringer (16) of the at least one aircraft fuselage segment (2, 3) should be used as a counter bearing (10).

  • Patent number: 8100311
Abstract: The invention relates to a friction stir welding head having a housing and a welding tool with a rotating welding pin and a rotating shoulder tool for welding workpieces which rest on a workpiece rest, with the shoulder tool, which rotates in synchronism with the welding pin, coaxially surrounding the welding pin. According to the invention, a first distance between a first laser rangefinder and a welding pin section 4a can be determined by means of the first laser rangefinder. This makes it possible to determine at least one change in the distance between the welding pin tip and the workpiece rest by means of a first laser rangefinder.

  • Patent number: 8100148
Abstract: The invention relates to a hydro sound damper, in particular for integration in an aircraft hydraulic system, with a throughout inner tube, wherein the inner tube comprises a perforation section which is coaxially encompassed by a housing under formation of a gas-filled cavity. The perforation section is coaxially encompassed by a metal felt cylinder at least in sections and an elastomeric membrane bears on the metal felt cylinder for generating a gas cushion, which is closed in itself. Due to the metal felt cylinder a pushing through of the elastomeric membrane into the bores of the perforation section is avoided when the hydraulic system is depressurized. Furthermore, the metal felt cylinder, which is infiltrated respectively flowed through, produces an improved damping characteristic which might moreover be adjusted by a variation of the flow resistance of the used metal felt.

  • Patent number: 8094699
Abstract: Methods and systems for demodulating a multiuser signal using channel decoders for a multiple-access communication system are disclosed. According to one method, a signal containing information for a plurality of users in a multiple-access communication system employing spreading sequences is received. The received signal is despread using a signature sequence for each user to produce individual user signals having multiple-access interference (MAI). Channel estimates associated with each of the individual user received signals are determined. Each of the individual user signals are decoded using a channel decoder with a log-likelihood ratio (LLR) that accounts for the time-varying variance of the MAI in the individual user signals based on a model of the MAI including the channel estimates of the received signals of other users.

  • Patent number: 8092720
Abstract: Polymer supported metal complex catalysts and methods of their preparation and use are described. The polymer supported metal complex catalysts can be obtained via ligand exchange reactions between polymer ligands and a metal complex having catalytic activity. For example, a polymer supported rhodium (II) complex catalyst can be prepared via ligand exchange reaction between an insoluble polymer and a rhodium (II) carboxylate complex, wherein the insoluble polymer is prepared by a copolymerization reaction of (i) a styrene derivative with a substituted carboxylic acid, (ii) a styrene, and (iii) a linear alkane with both ends substituted by vinylbenzyloxy groups. The polymer supported catalysts can be used to catalyze asymmetric carbene reactions such as C—H insertion reactions and the like with high catalytic activity, chemical selectivity, diastereoselectivity, and enantioselectivity.

  • Patent number: 8086660
Abstract: Method and systems for transferring data from a sending device to a receiving device. The method starts with the preparation of a description of the structure of the data which is provided to the sending device and the receiving device. A reference model of the data structure is created on each of the sending and receiving devices, during run time, using the description of the data. As requested, instances of the reference model are created with the data on the sending device. The data in the instance is serialized by extracting the data and transferred from the sending device to the receiving device. The receiving device creates an instance of the data based on the reference model.
