Abstract: A mode selection technique in a laser is described wherein a recess is formed in a surface of a waveguide in the laser. The recess provides a region of free space propagation within the waveguide which preferentially selects the lowest order mode. A mode selective RF excited CO2 slab laser, having a stable resonator in the waveguide dimension and a negative branch unstable resonator in the non-waveguide dimension, is constructed and the position and size of the recess is considered to provide low order mode selection.

Abstract: This invention relates to a method and apparatus for process cell cultures. The apparatus comprises a micro-chamber comprising no more than one absorption layer and at least one gel layer, in this order, laminated on a transparent base plate having no conspicuous absorbency in visible and infrared regions, and at least one light source. The absorption layer has absorbency in visible and infrared regions, and the gel-like material is a substance which has a gel dissolution temperature of 100 degree C. or less, solates when heated and is in a gel state at room temperature and has absorbency for a specific wave length of visible and infrared regions. The light source is monochromatic light in the specific wave length. The light source is disposed such that it irradiates on the absorption layer and/or gel layer, with the exception that when no absorption layer is provided, at least two layers each composed of a gel-like material are laminated on the transparent base plate.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for measuring network performance. A packet from a stream of multimedia data packets is received from across a network during a measurement interval. The time interval from the start of the measurement interval to receiving the packet is measured. The response of a buffer to the received packet is determined. The level of the buffer just before the packet arrives is calculated, based on the time interval. The level of the buffer just after the packet arrives is calculated, based on the previous level. A performance measure for the network is determined based on at least one of the two levels.

Abstract: Material usage tracking systems for monitoring and optimizing usage of stretch film on a stretch wrapping machine is provided. A system includes a rotary encoder collar securable to a pre-stretch roller of a stretch wrapping machine and a proximity sensor securable proximate to the rotary encoder collar. Upon installation, the proximity sensor measures the revolutions of the pre-stretch roller when the stretch wrapping machine is wrapping a product or pallet. The system also includes a controller in communication with the proximity sensor. The controller converts the revolutions of the pre-stretch roller to measurements of the amount of stretch film pulled off a film roll in the stretch wrapping machine based on data received from the proximity sensor. Different uses for the data collected by the material usage tracking system and different ways of presentation of the data are also provided.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer program products for sending and receiving frames associated with different VLANs over a secure layer 2 broadcast transport network are disclosed. According to one method, a layer 2 frame is received at a transmit port of a layer 2 forwarding device. The layer 2 frame is to be sent over a secure layer 2 broadcast transport network. A VLAN identifier corresponding to a first VLAN is extracted from the layer 2 frame. The first VLAN identifier is mapped to a second VLAN identifier used by the secure broadcast transport layer 2 network to identify the first VLAN. A portion of the layer 2 frame including the first VLAN identifier is encrypted. The layer 2 frame is transmitted over the secure layer 2 broadcast transport network with the second VLAN identifier in a cleartext portion of the frame.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for joining precured stringers to at least one structural component of an aircraft or spacecraft. A vacuum arrangement necessary for the joining is produced in two parts. In a first step, each precured stringer is covered in advance with a covering vacuum film. The stringers prepared in this manner are arranged on the structural component. Respective vacuum film strips are subsequently arranged on adjacent stringers and over an intermediate space between the adjacent stringers. With the use of a vacuum sealing means, the vacuum film strips and the covering vacuum films 8 form a continuous vacuum arrangement. The stringers are subsequently joined under pressurization to the structural component with the use of this vacuum arrangement.

Abstract: A method and apparatus of communicating over a data network includes providing a user interface in a control system for call control and to display information relating to a call session. The control system communicates one or more control messages (e.g., Session Initiation Protocol or SIP messages) over the data network to establish a call session with a remote device in response to receipt of a request through the user interface. One or more commands are transmitted to a voice device associated with the control system to establish the call session between the voice device and the remote device over the data network. A Real-Time Protocol (RTP) link may be established between the voice device and the remote device.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer program products for delivery of SMS messages are disclosed. According to one method, first routing data for delivery of an SMS message to a mobile terminal is received at a network element. Second routing data is transmitted from the network element in response to receiving the first routing data. An SMS message having the second routing data is received at the network element. The second routing data is converted at the network element to the first routing data for delivery of the SMS message to a mobile terminal. The network element uses the first and second routing data to correlate a request for the first routing data with receipt of the SMS message. The network element compares an SMSC address in the request for the first routing data with an SMSC address in the SMS message to detect the presence of address spoofing.
