  • Patent number: 5877437
Abstract: Numerous products can be formed by combining a low melting matrix made up of one or more metals and high melting, high density metal particles and wherein the products can be formed by adding the high density particles to a molten matrix metal and casting same, mixing powders of all the metals together, compacting and sintering at a temperature in the low end of the melting range of the matrix alloy, or by mixing the high density particles into a paste of the matrix alloy and molding. These methods and compositions are particularly adaptable for use in forming low or non-toxic high density projectiles, such as, shot, bullets and pellets having a density comparable to that of lead while avoiding problems of toxicity associated with the use of lead.

  • Patent number: 5863220
Abstract: An end connector fitting for splicing electrically conductive members, such as, coaxial cables together includes splicing devices which are threaded onto opposite ends of the fitting to cause deformable sleeve portions at opposite ends of the fitting to be crimped into sealed engagement with each electrically conductive member, and the splicing devices can be left in place after the crimping operation. The splicing devices may be formed with unitary tapered surface portions or separate tubular inserts with tapered surface portions to impart the necessary crimping force to the sleeve portions. In an alternate form, the fitting may be provided with a single splicing device at one end to crimp the sleeve portion into sealed engagement with an electrically conductive member and the opposite end being adapted for connection to a post or terminal.

  • Patent number: 5833254
Abstract: A mud flap adapter is provided for use behind the rear wheels of a truck having a hitch receiver with an elongated sleeve extending along the rear of the truck. In the preferred embodiment, the adapter comprises a channel with hooked lower end between which the upper end of the mud flap is disposed. At the end of the channel opposite to the mud flap, the channel is secured to the hitch receiver sleeve via a J-bolt tightened against a flange mounted on the end of the hitch receiver sleeve when the adapter is in a telescoping relationship with the hitch receiver sleeve. A second embodiment of the present invention contemplates use of the adapter with a hitch receiver sleeve having closed ends. The sleeve end and the channel end are each equipped with cooperating flanges so that when the channel end of the sleeve end are abutted, the respective flanges are firmly but releasably secured to one another, thus also securing the mud flap adapter to the hitch receiver.

  • Patent number: 5823031
Abstract: There is provided a device and manner for bulge forming and bending a tube or hollow extrusion, such as a pipe or conduit. The one portion of the length of the tube is bulge-formed to define a radially expanded, contoured section of the tube, while another portion of the tube length is bent to define an angle or curve in the tube. The device employs a radially expandable mandrel which serves both as the expandable member for bulge-forming the tube, as well as a bending mandrel to stabilize the tube against wrinkling or collapse during bending.

  • Patent number: 5816784
Abstract: An electromagnetic actuating mechanism is provided for a centrifugal pump in which a solenoid ring includes a radially inwardly projecting annular seal movable between open and closed positions with respect to a rotary seal which is mounted for rotation with the drive shaft between the expeller and reservoir region of the pump housing. Spring members are engageable with the ring to normally retain the annular seal in the closed position when the pump is not in operation, and a magnetic drive member is selectively energized to initiate movement of the ring in a direction overcoming the biasing elements to shift the ring to an open position when pump operation is initiated. An energizing control circuit is associated with the pump motor to regulate energizing and deenergizing of the drive member.

  • Patent number: 5813814
Abstract: The invention is an apparatus for safely and efficiently loading, transporting and unloading bales, such as bales of hay. The invention includes a wheeled frame upon which a cab and bed are mounted for self-propelled locomotion across fields, lots, and roads. A bale carriage includes a pair of bale grabber arms which pivot to securely grab or clamp, and release, a bale. The bale carriage is powered for movement along an immobile carriage track overarching the cab, so that the bale may be grabbed and safely and reliably lifted along the carriage track from a position in front of the cab and deposited upon the bed in back of the cab. A push pan pushes successively deposited bales from the front of the bed toward the back of the bed to allow room for later-loaded bales. The entire bed is pivotal from a horizontal position to a vertical position.

  • Patent number: 5813066
Abstract: A baby rest for placement upon a support surface employs a generally C-shaped inflatable tube member surrounded by padding, the combination of the tube member and padding encased in a generally circular outer fabric cover. The outer cover substantially traverses the center area of the C-shaped tube, thereby creating a thinly padded, central rest area on which an infant may lie. The tube member can be inflated to varying degrees, such that the tube member and the surrounding padding create a peripheral guard around the center rest area of sufficient height to prevent an infant from rolling out of the proportionally smaller rest area.

  • Patent number: 5813549
Abstract: A storage rack which may be attached to a supporting surface, such as a wall, so that one or more objects may be placed upon the rack to be stored upon the wall. The storage rack has a compact base with two or more pairs of peg holes, and two or more pegs that may be inserted into any selected pair of the holes. Objects to be stored are placed on and between the inserted pegs. The pairs of holes are separated by different distances. The distance between inserted pegs can be adjusted to accommodate the object to be stored by choosing one or the other of the pairs of holes and then attaching the base to the wall with the chosen pair of holes in position to receive the pegs for use.

The storage rack has a compact base with two or more pairs of peg holes, and two or more pegs that may be inserted into any selected pair of the holes. Objects to be stored are placed on and between the inserted pegs. The holes and pegs are threaded so that the pegs can be securely screwed into the holes. The peg holes may be at an upward angle in the base, and the pegs may be provided with irregular or scalloped surfaces better to hang items securely thereon, or with hooks or eyelets to improve their reliability and versatility. Peg segments may be connected in series to adjust the functional length of a particular peg.

  • Patent number: 5779423
Abstract: A soft cover, lay flat book in which a non-adherent, unreinforced coating of a volatile liquid carrier and powdered material is disposed over the glue along the backbone of the book block prior to the assembly of the cover, and the cover is adhered or otherwise secured to the book block only between the front and rear leaves and outer surface portions of the book block so that the backbone is movable independently of the spinal cover when the book is opened and closed.Alternately, the coating may be applied to the spinal portion of the cover and a laminate film affixed over the inner surface of the cover, again allowing independent movement of the backbone.

  • Patent number: 5772747
Abstract: A sealant composition especially useful for stopping punctures in vehicle tires includes: (a) a viscous fluid such as propylene glycol or polypropylene glycol; (b) one or more fibrous materials such as cellulose, wool, nylon, rayon, hair, wollastonite, rock-wool, glass wool fibers, polyester, polypropylene, or other material of like nature; and (c) flat plate-like particles, such as mica. In one embodiment, the composition is too viscous to be readily passed through a pneumatic tire valve stem, so the viscous product is installed into the tire while the tire is dismounted from the wheel. In another embodiment, the composition is made of two parts, each of which is sufficiently low in viscosity to pass readily through the valve stem, but which react on mixing inside the tire form a liquid of higher viscosity.
