Abstract: A measuring tape for measuring the distance between a first point and a second point. The tape has a flexible elongated blade with a tab fixed to free end of the blade for temporarily and removably hooking the free end of the blade to the first point. The tab extends in at least two directions transverse to a lengthwise edge of the blade at the free end of the blade. The blade has two sets of numbers imprinted thereon which correspond to units of measure. The first set of numbers is imprinted along a first lengthwise edge portion of the blade and is positioned on the blade such that the numbers are arranged in upright position one after the other and increase in value when read from the free end of the blade toward the fixed end of the blade.

Abstract: A corner protector for protecting the top corners of stacks of lumber from being indented or frayed by tie-down cables in a railroad freight car, comprises a sidewall connected at its top to a top wall at right angles to the sidewall along a fold line so that the sidewall is adapted to contact the side of a stack of lumber and the top wall is adapted to contact the top of the stack of lumber, cable alignment tabs on top of the top wall for aligning the tie down cable, cable retention fingers mounted on the sidewall for capturing and detaining the tie down cable, whereby when the protector is mounted on the corner of a stack of lumber it is protected against being contacted and indented by the tie down cable, the cable is protected against wearing and fraying caused by contacting the corner of the stack of lumber, and the corner protector may be installed without disconnecting the cable by loosening the cable and inserting the protector under the cable and mounting the protector on the top corner of the stack
Abstract: A refrigerated vapor degreasing system for cleaning workpieces. The system has a tank for containing a bath of degreasing solvent, a heater for vaporizing the solvent, a primary solvent condenser, a secondary solvent condenser, and a single refrigeration unit which can be switched to operate in two different modes. The primary solvent condenser creates a degreasing zone above the solvent bath around work pieces supported therein and creates a primary barrier preventing the vaporized solvent from escaping the tank. The secondary solvent condenser creates a cold air blanket above the degreasing zone which acts as a secondary barrier preventing the vaporized solvent from escaping the tank. The single refrigeration unit simultaneously provides low-temperature refrigerant to the secondary solvent condenser and the primary solvent condenser in a first mode.
Abstract: A gas flushing device for a blowpipe of a degassing vessel, the blowpipe being cladded with a fire resistant material. The gas flushing device has a plurality of channels which are distributed around the circumference of the blowpipe and pass through the fire resistant cladding radially in relation to the central longitudinal axis of the blowpipe and can be connected on the outside to at least one gas feed pipe. The channels are between 0.5 and 2 mm in diameter, are spaced at intervals of less than 10 mm and can be pressurized in such a way that the gas on entering the blowpipe rises in the immediate vicinity of the blowpipe inner wall.
Abstract: A Portland cement clinker free of C.sub.4 A.sub.3 S having the following proportions of clinker phases, in % by wt.:--C.sub.3 S: 40 to 80--C.sub.4 AF: <20--C.sub.2 S: <30--C.sub.3 A: <20and a SO.sub.3 content from 1.0 to 3.0% by wt., based on the clinker, obtained by burning a mixture of raw materials containing CaO, SiO.sub.2, Al.sub.2 O.sub.3, Fe.sub.2 O.sub.3 and an additive containing SO.sub.3 at temperatures from 1200.degree. to 1350.degree. C. centigrade, the use thereof and a Portland cement.
Abstract: A fluid flow connection comprising a threaded port for use with a nominal 74.degree. male conical tube fitting and pipe end connection is disclosed. The threaded port is made to have a truncated conical seal surface having an included angle that is slightly larger than the corresponding included angle of the seal surface of the male portion of the fluid flow connection.
Abstract: Adapters and methods for reversibly converting a standard stethoscope to a multimedia and/or telemedicine ready stetoscope. The adapter includes a housing having a conduit for conducting sound therethrough, a first coupler for coupling the housing to the transducer of a standard stethoscope, a second coupler for coupling the housing to the sound conduction hose of a standard stethoscope, and a second transducer for converting an audible tone to an electronic signal.
Abstract: A method of preventing the inserting of a wrong flowmeter tube into an anesthesia machine comprises the steps of forming a selected number of longitudinal ridges at selected places on the inside surface of an upper portion of a flowmeter tube, attempting to insert the upper end portion into a socket pin mounted on the housing of a anesthesia machine, seating the tube on the socket pin if the socket pin exterior surface has grooves corresponding to the number and placement of ridges on the flowmeter tube, and rejecting the tube by the socket pin if the socket pin exterior surface does not have grooves corresponding to the number and placement of the ridges on the flowmeter tube, since the lack of said correspondences indicates that the tube is the wrong tube for the socket pin.
Abstract: A method for representing optically a fabric consisting of warp and weft threads and with a pattern. To optically represent the fabric, the pattern is acquired by scanning from a model, or from an existing data carrier, or represented directly on a computer display. A crossing scheme is then assigned to the warp and weft threads. The course of the warp and weft threads is then determined by varying at least one of any parameters specific for the thread, such as the number of color components of a single thread and their distribution, the construction of the thread's surface or the material of the thread and by varying at least one of any parameter specific for the fabric, such as the closeness of the warp and weft threads, the advance of material in weaving, the sequence of the warp threads or the control functions for a weaving machine.
Abstract: A bag suitable for use in microwave cooking is constructed of an elongated tube of flexible material closed at one end by means of a cold seal closure and having a heat seal adhesive deposit applied to the other end thereof for use in closing the bag after filling thereof; and methods of making the same are described, including the making of a roll from which said bags can be made.
Abstract: A spigot actuator assembly for dispensing liquid from a spigot mounted on a projecting spout of a bag-in-box container for operating a dispensing lever on the spigot to move the dispensing lever from a horizontal closed position to an upwardly projecting open position for dispensing the liquid from the container, and for quickly replacing the container when desired. A method of using the spigot actuator assembly including snapping the spigot actuator assembly onto the spout, pushing down on a lever of the spigot actuating assembly for dispensing the liquid, releasing the actuator assembly to automatically close the spout, and snapping off the actuator assembly from the spout when it is desired to remove the container, and snapping a replacement container onto the actuator assembly.

Abstract: A process for determining the arrangement and step sequence of heald shafts of a heald loom for weaving a fabric including a backing fabric having a fabric pattern and an ornamental design. The ornamental design of the fabric is plotted and/or displayed by means of a computer. Alternatively, the combined appearance of the ornamental design and the fabric pattern may be plotted and/or displayed. Next, the number of heald shafts necessary for weaving the ornamental design or the combined appearance is determined. Heald shaft arrangements that are conventionally used and/or available which will weave a fabric design similar to the ornamental design or the combination designed are plotted and compared with the heald shafts determined for weaving the ornamental design or the combination design. The step sequence of the individual heald shafts in the heald loom from the assigned heald shaft arrangement is determined.
