  • Patent number: 4416482
Abstract: A gate assembly is adapted to be used with a vehicle which has a cargo area defined by at least two sides extending substantially parallel to one another and comprises a gate member adapted to be moveably disposed within the cargo area of the vehicle and having a body with first and second sides. Guiding apparatus is adapted to be connected to the vehicle to restrict movement of the gate member between an open position to allow access into the cargo area and a closed position to limit access into the cargo area. Follower apparatus is adapted to be connected to the gate member to cooperate with the guiding apparatus by restricting movement of the first end of the gate member along a direction line substantially parallel to the sides of the vehicle and for restricting movement of the second end of the gate member along a direction line substantially transverse to the parallel sides of the vehicle when the gate member is being moved between the open and closed position.

  • Patent number: 4414995
Abstract: A controller comprises a body having a first port, a second port and a third port. A valve element is disposed in the body for movement between a first position which blocks fluid flow through the first port while permitting fluid communication between the second and third ports and a second position to permit fluid communication between the first and second ports while blocking fluid flow through the third port. A device is disposed in the body for urging the valve element to the second position. A mechanism is connected to the body for moving the valve element to the second position and this moving apparatus includes a member which when heated permits the urging device to move the valve member to the first position. Indicator means are provided to indicate position of the valve element. Safety means is provided to avoid accidental movement of the valve element to the second position during manual operation.

  • Patent number: 4413642
Abstract: A method and apparatus to control delivery of pressurized hydraulic fluid at a controlled pressure to open and close blowout preventers. A source of pressurized hydraulic fluid is connected through a pair of supply lines and through a control shifter valve for charging a closed system to a set-point pressure. A velocity fuse in each supply line diverts flow to one line if the other line breaks. Fluid from the source of pressurized hydraulic fluid is also delivered through a regulator valve to a regulated pressure line which is connected to one or more control valves. Each of the control valves is adapted to direct pressurized fluid selectively to either end of a blowout preventer actuator chamber.

  • Patent number: 4411193
Abstract: A drive system for rollers in pressure indented relation including a lug on a drive gear, which is rotatably mounted about one of the roller journals, and a projection on the roller journal such that the gear will drive the roller only when the lug and the projection are in engagement. The system provides a drive for driving rollers at different surface speeds, the drive being adapted to permit rotation of the rollers at equal surface speeds until lubricant is transferred to the nip between the rollers and thereafter at different surface speeds.

  • Patent number: 4409453
Abstract: Directed jets of temperature controlled gaseous fluids are applied to irregularly shaped products, such as food portions, to subject discrete areas of the surface to a very high heat transfer rate and to cause these areas to be passed over surfaces of the product at a proper rate to obtain over-all surface effects such as crisping, browning, searing or freezing. The cooking apparatus comprises a generator adapted to supply microwave energy for heating the interior of a food product in combination with apparatus to direct spaced discrete high velocity jets of heated air to impinge against exterior surfaces of the food product. A conveyor is employed to provide relative motion between each of the sources of heat and the product for averaging cooking through the product by reducing effect of RF standing waves and simultaneously sweeping the jets of air over the product at proper rate to heat all exposed surfaces.

  • Patent number: 4385527
Abstract: An aircraft weighing system which includes substantially rectangular operator members (10) associated with jacks to support an aircraft (100). The operator member (10) includes a pair of central bearing beam members (51, 52) secured to opposite ends of a rigid load receiving member (53). The central bearing beam members (51, 52) are supported by side bearing beam members (31, 32, 41, 42) through rigid end members (63, 64) to maintain an angular relationship between ends of the beam members (31, 32, 41, 42, 51, 52) when loading is changed such that deflection of the beam members indicates the weight of the aircraft.

  • Patent number: 4369373
Abstract: A method and apparatus for generating electricity from a generator driven by the flow of fluid flowing from a fluid producing well. A fluid driven motor is positioned in the pipeline adjacent to or above the well head such that the fluid passes through the motor to turn the motor shaft to drive the generator. By controlling the electrical load connected to the generator, the force required to drive the motor and thereby the pressure reduction across the motor can be controlled. The electricity produced by the generator may be used to heat the fluid in the pipe to prevent freezing of the fluid. The electricity can be utilized to heat the emulsion in an emulsion separator dehydrator for separating gas, water, and oil prior to its introduction into the pipeline. Separate motor may be utilized for gaseous fluid and liquids. Where the well produces both gas and liquid a separator is employed to separate the gas and liquid.

  • Patent number: 4354549
Abstract: A food processing unit and method of processing food uses a housing which receives vertically disposed layers of food product. The temperature of the fluid within the housing is controlled to process the food product. A pressurized fluid is supplied into the housing and the fluid within the housing is then induced to circulate by directing a flow of fluid from the pressurized fluid in a substantially horizontal direction through spaces between layers of the food product. The directed fluid flow may be distributed within the housing so that heat transferred in zones from the fluid throughout the layers of food product or the directed fluid may be redirected to flow in those spaces adjacent spaces through which the fluid is initially directed so that the flow of ambient fluid within the housing is induced to circulate around each layer of food product.

  • Patent number: 4341303
Abstract: A strip 10 of slips 12 is characterized by breaking portions 62,64 at which each individual clip 12a, 12b, 12c is separable from its longitudinal neighbors these portions being coextensive, longitudinally of the strip, with the line of separation 60 which divides off each clip from its longitudinal neighbors and which is formed without removal of material of the strip. This line is achieved by shearing the material of the strip while bowing it about a longitudinal axis so as to present a curved surface to an oncoming shearing tool which has an oppositely curved surface. The extent of intersection of the opposite curve defines the length of the line of the separation. The breaking portion is adjacent each end of the line. The clips during severence suffer apparent lateral contraction but no longitudinal distortion.

  • Patent number: RE31123
Abstract: A pipe section is provided having means on the end thereof for use in assembly in the section in series in a pipe system. The pipe section has a compressible seal mounted in a groove in the end. A frusto-conical shaped seal surface is formed on the interior of the female end adjacent the threads. The apex angle of the frusto-conical sealing surface, the lead of the screw threads and the allowable diametric clearance of the seal means are related to provide a pipe joint which allows 360 degrees or a full turn of relative rotation between coupled sections while providing an effective seal therebetween. The compressibility of the seal, the apex angle of the sealing surface and lead of the screw are also related to provide a makeup torque for interconnecting the sections which is in the range which can be applied by an ordinary worker by hand to the section without tools. Indicia means are provided on the exterior of the pipe to indicate allowable interengagement of the sections for effective sealing.
