  • Patent number: 5527180
Abstract: A burner has a burner tube and a nozzle holder mounted in one end of the burner tube. An igniter is positioned within the nozzle holder and acts to ignite any of the multi-liquid fuels which may be used with the burner. A nozzle emits atomized liquid fuel under the venturi effect of the nozzle with compressed air being supplied to the nozzle. Primary air holes extend circumferentially around the nozzle holder to admit air radially which passes directly to the burner tube. Secondary air holes extend around the inside circumference of the burner tube on the secondary air injection plate and admit air axially to the burner tube.

  • Patent number: 5410150
Abstract: A fiber optic controller comprises a keyboard having a plurality of keys. Each key has a transmitting fiber and a receiving fiber wired therein. Light is provided to the transmitting fiber by a light emitting diode and travels to the key and, thence, to the receiving fiber by way of a reflective surface on the key which reflects the light when the key is in a depressed or "on" position. An electronic controller is controlled by signals from photo transistors which signals are initiated when light is transmitted by the receiving fiber to the photo transistor. The electronic controller, in turn, activates a power circuit which powers various of the operating components of a spa or hot tub.

  • Patent number: 5291918
Abstract: An emergency shut-down system to close a gate valve in a pipeline and therefore terminate flow. The closing action is initiated when a pilot valve senses pressure in the pipeline outside predetermined limits. This reduces the signal pressure in the system which, in turn, causes a fluid dump from the gate valve actuator which closes the gate valve and terminates fluid flow in the pipeline. The system is reactivated by manually pumping the system which re-opens the gate valve and allows fluid flow in the pipeline to again continue.

  • Patent number: 5223024
Abstract: A process for the extraction of copper from a copper ore or concentrate comprises first subjecting the ore or concentrate to agitation leaching at an elevated temperature and pressure in the presence of oxygen and water to obtain a resulting acidic leach liquor which contains dissolved copper. The acidity of the resulting acidic leach liquor is then reduced by affecting percolation leaching of a bed of low grade copper ore or waste rock with the resulting acidic leach liquor, whereby the pH of the leach liquor is raised, for example to a value of about 1.5 to 2. In a preferred embodiment the bed of low grade ore or waste rock is in the form of a heap and the percolation leaching comprises heap leaching.

  • Patent number: 5213086
Abstract: A fuel inlet system (12) for an internal combustion engine (10) comprises a heat exchanger (22), heated by engine exhaust gases, to preheat air being supplied to a carburetor (14). The air is introduced into the carburetor (14) at a temperature of between about 375.degree. to 400.degree. F. The carburetor (14) has an annular heating chamber (122) in which the heated air is circulated. A fuel inlet conduit (63) is in thermal contact with the heated air in the heating chamber (122) to preheat the fuel. The air and fuel is mixed in two stages, the first being during travel along a conduit (144) and the second in a mixing chamber (170) in the carburetor (14). The carburetor (14) includes a valve (148) for restricting the amount of air flowing to the mixing chamber (170). The fuel inlet system (12) further comprises means (20) for adding water to the air/fuel mixture.

  • Patent number: 5213133
Abstract: A pressure responsive pilot control valve has a spool which is movable by a metal diaphragm sensing the pressure in a flowline. The spool includes two poppet seal rings mounted thereon, the poppet seal rings having concentric axes and which are used for opening and closing fluid ports. The fluid ports are opened and closed for the purpose of sending a signal to a latching relay valve to bleed off a shut in valve actuator which will terminate flow in the flowline. The poppet seal rings of the pilot move responsive to a high or a low pressure condition. A low pressure spring is provided for measuring a low pressure condition and a high pressure spring is provided for measuring a high pressure condition.

  • Patent number: 5205252
Abstract: An engine air shutdown valve comprising a gate which is movable from a first position wherein the air flow passage of an engine is relatively unimpeded to a second position where the air flow passage is closed thereby terminating operation of the engine. A trip spindle maintains the gate in its open position with a ball release. Upon activation of the ball release, the gate moves parallel to the direction of air flow through the passage to terminate the air flow.

  • Patent number: 5203536
Abstract: An engine shutdown valve comprises a housing and a gate movable within a housing between a first position where the air flow through the shutdown valve is substantially unrestricted to a second position where the opening is restricted thereby stopping air flow. The gate is pivotable about an axis and a drive is located concentrically about the axis to rotate with the gate. The drive has a recess which is engageable by a piston movable between a first position where the gate is held in its latched position and a second position out of engagement with the recess so as to allow the gate to move to a position where the air passageway is closed. The piston assembly is located substantially wholly within the housing with only the piston of the piston assembly extending therefrom. The housing is divided into two halves joined together with cap screws having axes transverse to the axis of rotation of the gate.
