  • Patent number: 6176035
Abstract: A fishing lure with three housing sections, a front housing section and a rear housing section, each with spiral fins or propellers that cause them to rotate in opposite directions when the lure is pulled through the water, and a middle housing section to which a fish hook can be attached. A selected housing section contains a compartment into which small metal spheres can be inserted, both to add weight to the lure and to make noise to attract fish. The rear housing section has a compartment for scent, in the form of pellets and has a plurality of apertures through which the scent can diffuse through the surrounding water to attract fish.

  • Patent number: 6034311
Abstract: A height adjustable pivot point carrying device for a floating point tremolo, comprising: a base plate with a plurality of cylindrical seat housings extending the base plate. Each cylindrical seat housing defines a throughgoing bore and is threaded at its distal end to receive a threaded cap. A plurality of point support posts comprising a post and a conical pointed portion angularly extending from the post are slidably mounted in the cylindrical seat housing to pivotably receive a pivotable string carriage of the floating point tremolo on the conical pointed portion. An adjustment screw mounted in a threaded blind bore of the post moves the point support posts with respect to the base plate to raise or lower a pivotable string carrying portion of the floating point tremolo adjusting the height of the strings in relation to external surface of the musical instrument.

  • Patent number: 6025538
Abstract: A composite allograft bone device comprising a first bone member body defining with a face that includes a plurality of intersecting grooves cut into the face of the body to define a plurality of spaced projections forming a pattern and a second bone member body defining a face that includes a plurality of angularly intersecting grooves cut into the face to form a plurality of spaced projections forming a second pattern. The projections on the second face fit into grooves cut in the first face allowing the two bodies to be mated together with the spaced projections of each face fitting into the grooves of the opposing face. The mated bodies form a composite bone device which is provided with a throughgoing bore positioned at an angle to the longitudinal axis of the composite device and a dowel mounted in the throughgoing bore extending into the bone member bodies precluding the same from relative longitudinal movement.

  • Patent number: 5227668
Abstract: An apparatus for detecting illegal tampering with an electricity meter which is adapted to record the amount of electricity supplied to the meter through cables has a first signal generating sensing coil situated externally of, and upstream of, the meter which generates a first signal representative of the current flowing through one of the supply cables and a second signal generating second sensing coil, located within the meter, which generates a second signal representative of the amount of electricity to be recorded by the meter. A Monitoring device monitors the first and second signals and produces a third actuation signal when one of the first and second signals differs from its correct value as a result of tampering. The first and second signals charge and discharge a capacitor. When the voltage on the capacitor reaches a predetermined level, the third signal, which may cause the load to be disconnected or may produced a warning, is generated.

  • Patent number: 5224489
Abstract: The present invention is directed toward an apparatus and a method which can use immunoassay in sample treatment apparatus for diagnostic and testing purposes of urine by concentrating specific urine antigen in a small volume area and concentrating the urinary sediments in a separate small volume area. Urine is transported through the tubular container under pressure to flow through the sample container which screens off the urinary sediments and the beads so that antigens carried in the urine are collected and concentrated on the beads.

  • Patent number: 5186181
Abstract: An electromagnetic applicator for use in hyperthermic treatments of superficial and subcutaneous tissues employing radiators integrated in a waveguide segment which is working below the cutoff frequency and supports evanscent modes of propagation which are excited by the radiators to produce a multi-modal field of controlled intensity. Additional radiators are integrated in the same waveguide to generate directly another controlled field. The multi-modal and directly emitted field are generated with a large variety of field sizes, shapes and penetration features and are combined in many ways and in any power level ratio to provide a heating field emerging from the waveguide aperture which impinges upon tissue to be heated through a noncritical air gap thereby allowing heating of a large variety of subcutaneous tumors to temperatures causing tumor necrosis without injury to the normal fat and other access tissues.

Abstract: A protective headgear conforming to a person's head and capable of absorbing energy. The headgear is constructed of a base member of resilient foam and pad members are secured to the resilient foam. The entire headgear is covered with tough pliable surface casing. The headgear defines a front opening which is generally contoured and shaped to conform with the periphery of a person's eyes and extending downward along the cheek area to expose the chin and neck and two ear openings. A pair of cross members formed on the top of the headgear retain the headgear on a person's head and define ventilation openings.

  • Patent number: 5156374
Abstract: A valve is in the form of a valve body having a valve inlet, a valve outlet and a valve seat disposed between the inlet and the outlet. A valve closure member is movable between a first, closed position in abutment with the valve seat and a second, open position in which it is displaced from the valve seat.A shaft is pivotally mounted within the valve body and one end is connected to an actuating handle, by means of which it is pivotable. An arm is connected to the shaft and to the valve closure member, whereby movement of the actuating handle causes opening and closing of the valve. The positioning of the pivoting portions of the valve and the spring within the valve body (i.e. in an aperture actually within the material forming the valve body) means that the only item other than the valve closure member in the path of the material being discharged is the arm, and that when in the open position the valve closure member causes no constriction of the bore.

  • Patent number: 5149311
Abstract: In a high-loaded, light-weight, compact, multi-stage gear transmission unit with at least one stage with non-parallel shafts, and a transmission ratio between approximately 70 and 150, like a helicopter transmission, said angle transmission generally forms the weakest link. By adoption of a face gear/cylindrical pinion-stage instead of the commonly used bevelled-stage, not only a more reliable drive is possible, but its efficiency is higher, due to less friction, its size is smaller, its adjustment is simpler such that straight forward replacement becomes possible, and - not in the least - the transmission ratio of said angle drive tends to high ratios in contrast to known bevelled-drives which tend to low ratios. In many cases one or even more stages less become possible, providing a further important reduction in weight and size.

  • Patent number: 5137031
Abstract: An apparatus and method for testing molecular specimens in a biological fluid and collecting cellular components from the fluid comprising a container housing defining a chamber with a fluid inlet and outlet. A filter membrane is mounted in the housing chamber dividing the chamber into two compartments with the filter membrane allowing a biological fluid flow and antigens carried therein to flow therethrough into one compartment while concentrating the cellular components in another compartment by preventing the flow therethrough. Chromatography beads are contained in a compartment opposing the cellular component compartment and a cellular component collection cup with an inlet and outlet is removably mounted to the container housing in fluid communication with the compartment opposite the chromatography bead compartment. A cytology membrane is mounted in the collection cup to prevent passage of cellular components when biological fluid is being discharged from the collection cup.
