    Abstract: A continuous and accurate location system for a mobile telephone subscriber which utilizes a temporary location indication as well as a registration location. If a visiting mobile subscriber sends a registration access, the visited system acknowledges the registration, records the mobile subscriber's presence and signals the mobile subscriber's home system of the mobile's presence. Receipt of the mobile's location from the visited system causes the mobile subscriber's home system to update its registration location data for that particular mobile. If a visiting mobile subscriber initiates a call access from within the visited system without registering within the visited system, the visited system allocates a record for the mobile indicating within the record that it has not received a registration from the mobile and transmits to the home system a temporary location signal.

    Abstract: A personal weapon system comprises a microprocessor-controlled and electronically fired "blow-forward" handgun with a firing parameter memory device, digital security lock and safety device, directional compass, electronic rounds counter, integral keyboard and liquid crystal display, laser designator capability, programmable piezo-resistive trigger, and high frequency A.C. ignitable primer. A microprocessor receives information from a real time clock, Hall-effect rounds counter, and an integral Hall-effect compass. The processor displays this information on the LCD display for the operator. When a round is fired, the microprocessor records time and date, number of rounds fired, and direction of firing for crime lab analysis. The trigger pressure required to fire the handgun is programmable by the operator, and a corresponding trigger detonation mark is displayed on the LCD display.

    Abstract: A temporary air conditioning condensing fan is mounted in a rigid housing which may be easily and rapidly mounted at the air exhaust side of an air conditioning unit to provide a temporary flow of cooling air to the condenser, in the event the existing condensing fan fails. A portion of the housing forms a shroud around the temporary condensing fan and directs the flow of air over the condenser. A head pressure adjusting valve adapts the temporary condensing fan to differently sized air conditioning units and maintains an efficient head pressure on the condenser of the existing air conditioning unit.

    Abstract: A detention cell locking system affording improved securement and reliability in the locking network of multiple detention cell doors. Mechanical actuation linkages are interconnected for motion responsive to either select manual, mechanical, or electrical signals actuating a DC motor drive. The locking mechanism incorporates an elongate toggle plate mounted to a carriage plate and a pair of cell door support rollers forming part of a mechanical locking system. The toggle plate assembly on the carriage plate permits a turning moment to be generated for lost motion actuation which effects locking and unlocking of the detention cell doors. A control network determines the length of time that the DC motor is electrically actuated and disengages the power to the motor during manual mechanical actuation.

    Abstract: A contact-free, optical measurement system for determining the precision with which an article rotates. A reflective surface is secured to a rotating surface and a light source, such as a laser, is disposed thereabove. A target is likewise secured in association with the light source to receive the reflected light from the spinning surface. In this manner, any dynamic angular misalignment, or wobble, in the spinning surface will be manifested in movement of the reflected light upon the target. The degree of wobble of the spinning surface may then be readily ascertained.

The drill includes a drill motor and feed cylinder powered by air to rotate and advance and retract the drill motor. The drill motor and feed cylinder is coupled with an air and mechanical control system including a hydraulic feed control unit having a piston rod coupled with the drill motor to dampen the advance of the drill motor during the drilling phase and to release for rapid retract and advance phases.

    Abstract: A method for dynamically modifying addressing information within a modular software system controlling a telecommunications switching system. Conventional telecommunications exchanges divide each exchange into discrete function blocks with a limited number of functions being performed by each block, thus requiring frequent interaction between blocks through the exchange of software signals. Such exchanges are more complicated in stored program control systems in which individual blocks are removed from memory and reloaded in different memory locations and in which revised blocks contain modified symbol addresses. The present invention utilizes a global signal distribution table loaded with global signal numbers for types of software signals, as well as local signal numbers of corresponding tasks given function blocks. This method overcomes disadvantages typically associated with linking and loading of software modules by delaying linking and performing it dynamically as each block is executed.

    Abstract: A high-speed fluid/mechanical Jet erosion system utilizing a high-velocity, spinning jet stream discharged contiguous the surface to be cut. The spinning jet stream is developed from a tangentially driven vortex flow system adapted to merge and enhance the erosive high-speed fluid jet characteristics of fluid and abrasive particle impingement erosion with cavitational collapse erosion in both axial and tangential directions. The system further includes an apertured mechanical cutting element which places the exiting spinning jet immediately against the target formation, providing maximum mechanical and fluid energy transfer to the formation. In this manner, the system induces formation fracturing by assisting mechanically induced fracture propagation with the high-speed jet action while simultaneously exploiting high-speed jet erosion-induced kerfs with the mechanical action of the tool.

    Abstract: An apparatus for cutting and deveining shrimp comprises a motor driving means inside a housing and a cutting mechanism outside the housing. A pair of rotating flexible disks grasp shrimp bodies and propel them past a cutting disk which slices the sand vein from the back of the shrimp. An idler roller is mounted on an adjusting shaft which may be positioned to adjust the depth of cut on the shrimp. An improved adjusting mechanism and external crank arm on the adjusting shaft enables adjustment of the idler roller while completely sealing the motor housing from any debris from the cutting operation. Polyurethane flexible disks reduce the growth of surface bacteria.

Integrated into the swivel arm (2) is a force measuring apparatus that comprises two flexural members (7) supporting the main load, two spring tongues (8), and a force transducer (11) that is installed between two stilts (12) between the spring tongues (8). The flexural members (7) and the spring tongues together form an elastic stepdown; the force transducer (11) thus only measures that part of the total load flowing through it as given by the stepdown. Further, a gradient meter (16) is mounted on the swivel arm (2), that has the same action line W as the force measurement device integrated in the swivel arm (2).

    Abstract: A downcomer tray assembly for vapor liquid contact towers. The region of the tray beneath an upper downcomer is constructed with a raised, perforated region for facilitating vapor passage therethrough and improving mass transfer efficiency. The downcomer includes a series of grouped discharge orifices disposed above either the perforated inlet or, in some cages, covered inlet areas which comprise momentum barriers. The covered areas in conjunction with the grouped orifices break the momentum of the liquid impacting upon the inlet area to reduce weeping. The vapor rising through the open inlet area sections is also selectively directed into the liquid discharged from the grouped downcomer orifices to promote uniform aeration of the liquid. A splash deflector is disposed outwardly of the raised inlet area to reduce any liquid maldistribution flowing from the inlet area and to deflect liquid splashed outwardly therefrom.

    Abstract: Improved catalyst-downcomer-tray assemblies for vapor liquid contact towers. Downcomers are constructed for receipt of bundles of catalyst media used to promote chemical reactions therein. Raised, perforated regions of the underlying trays are then disposed therebeneath for improving mass transfer efficiency. The raised regions reduce fluid pressure to vent excess vapor from downcomers and trays therebeneath. The vapor generated within the downcomers from the catalytic reaction may then be selectively directed into the liquid discharged from the downcomer disposed on the tray above and imparted with a horizontal flow characteristic. In this manner the catalytic reaction vapors can be effectively released to facilitate a stabilized vapor-liquid flow configuration with improved chemical reaction occurring in the downcomer of the process tower.

A liquid float valve mounted in the lower end of the tube opens the release tube only when liquid refrigerant is present. The regulator may further comprise a compressor regulator section through which the flow of refrigerant passes before entering the compressor.

Each arithmetic operation unit has first and second inputs for receiving first and second operands, respectively, and an output for transmitting a result of the arithmetic operation. When a denormalized operand is presented as an input to the arithmetic operation unit configured to operate on normalized numbers, the denormalized input operand is redirected through the second arithmetic unit for normalization of the denormalized operand. The first arithmetic operation unit then performs its arithmetic operation using the normalized input operands. The result of the arithmetic operation is then analyzed to determine whether it has a zero or negative exponent.
