  • Patent number: 5148485
Abstract: A system for generating a pseudo-random bit sequence which may be used in enciphering digital data prior to transmission or storage of the data. The bit sequence is generated by expanding a plurality of secret key bits in a manner suitable for implementation with a conventional microprocessor arithmetic logic unit (ALU). The system of the present invention may be used, for example, to secure voice or data communications between a base station and a mobile station in a digital cellular communications system.

  • Patent number: 5137414
Abstract: An improved translatable tilt-bed trailer has an elongated support bed which is rollingly mounted on the top side of a dual axle, wheeled undercarriage provided with a manually operable mechanical brake system and a front-to-rear spring equalizing system. The front end of the support bed is provided with a lockable, articulated tongue portion connectable to the hitch ball of a towing vehicle. To load an item onto the support bed, the mechanical trailer brakes are locked; the articulated tongue, and a pair of support bed retaining pins, are unlocked; and the towing vehicle is backed toward the stationary undercarriage to rearwardly move and downwardly tilt the bed. As the rear end of the tilting bed touches the ground, a pair of front stops on the bed engage the undercarriage frame and stop the rearward movement of the bed. The item to be loaded is then moved up the inclined bed and suitably secured thereto.

Abstract: A boom support assembly for an earth working machine, which includes a winch, a pair of tension members and a pendant pin link interposed between tension members. The first tension member is a boom support pendant secured to a boom point of a boom and the first end of the pendant pin link. The second tension member is a boom raising rope which is received over a plurality of gantry sheaves mounted on the top portion of a gantry structure and attached to the winch at one end and attached to the second end of the pendant pin link. The gantry sheaves are mounted on an alignment apparatus that has a sheave shaft mounted in an eccentric bore of a pair of cartridges rotatable in the top portion of the gantry structure. This alignment apparatus insures the proper positioning of a through bore of the pendant pin link between support openings in the top portion of the gantry.

  • Patent number: 5131791
Abstract: A retaining wall system comprising a combination of gravity wall and soil reinforcement retaining wall structures. The gravity wall structure comprises a plurality of gravity wall members formed of pre-cast or cast-in-place concrete, each including a face panel and an anchoring member. The anchoring member is disposed in a generally orthogonal relationship relative to the face panel and extends rearwardly into the soil mass behind the retaining wall. The soil reinforcement members are comprised of face panels and soil reinforcement elements extending rearwardly therefrom into the soil mass for the securement of the face panels. The soil reinforcement members are further adapted for positioning the gravity wall members to facilitate the economical construction of a combination retaining wall, having the most advantageous form of retaining wall securement for the upper and lower regions thereof.

  • Patent number: 5128888
Abstract: An arithmetic logic unit includes structure for calculating in at least two stages, this structure including substructure for calculating in each of the at least two stages at least partially at the same time and substructure for ensuring the substructure for calculating in each of the at least two stages performs only one calculation at a time. Accumulators that work with pipe stages of a floating point unit may form all of part of the calculating structure. A method of performing calculations includes the steps of separating the calculations into at least two stages and separately accumulating the results of the stages using at least two accumulators, one each accumulator for each calculation at each of the at least two stages.

  • Patent number: 5128891
Abstract: An apparatus for performing the division of a first operand by a second operand by iteratively producing a series of partial remainders and predicted quotient bits utilizing the generation of multiples of the second operand and the selection of one of the generated multiples. The second operand is first selected as a first partial remainder. A first quotient bit is predicted from the first and second operands and a next quotient bit is predicted from the partial remainder and the second operand. One of the generated multiples is selected for producing a next partial remainder based upon the next quotient prediction. A next partial remainder is then produced from the produced partial remainder and the selected multiple of the second operand.

  • Patent number: 5125407
Abstract: Method for imaging the interior of a three dimensional object. A non-selective composite hard RF pulse is generated in the presence of a uniform magnetic field. Phase encoding pulses are generated along the first and a third axis, respectively, and a frequency encoding pulse comprised of a de-phasing portion and a re-phasing portion is generated along a second axis. During the re-phasing portion of the frequency encoding pulse, an asymmetrical fractional gradient echo containing information related to the object being imaged is produced. A next asymmetrical fractional gradient echo is then produced for next phase encoding pulses along the first and third axes. After an asymmetrical fractional gradient echo is produced for all phase encoding pulses, an image of the object is produced from the series of produced asymmetrical fractional gradient echoes.

  • Patent number: 5120367
Abstract: A device comprising a solid or powdered concrete admixture contained in a water-soluble container such that when the container and its contents are introduced into a wet mixer and agitated for a period of time, the water-soluble container is dissolved and the contents are released into the wet mixer. A separate water-insoluble receptacle is used to house and store the water-soluble container and its contents. In addition, there is disclosed a method for modifying the properties of a concrete by introducing a pre-weighed amount of solid admixture contained in a water-soluble container into a wet mixer and thereafter agitating the resulting mix.

  • Patent number: 5120474
Abstract: A valve-tray assembly for vapor liquid contact towers. The active area of the tray beneath an upper downcomer is constructed with directional thrust valves facilitating oriented vapor flow therethrough and improving mass transfer efficiency. The valves include first and second support legs oriented into the liquid flow with the first leg having a wider surface area presented to the flow for diverting the flow therearound. The width of the first leg is less than the diameter of the valve aperture, about which the liquid is induced to flow into engagement with the vapor passing therethrough. The valve assembly is used in conjunction with, and outwardly of, a raised active inlet area to further control initially directed liquid flow from the perforated inlet area beneath the downcomer.

  • Patent number: 5119141
Abstract: An electrically biased attracter roller is utilized in an electrophotographic image reproduction machine, in place of a conventional corotron device, to electrically transfer toner from the side of a rotating photoconductor drum onto a side surface of paper stock being operatively fed through the machine. The charged roller is spring-biased into forcible side-to-side engagement with the drum and is frictionally rotated by the drum. The paper stock is fed between the rotating roller and drum and, by a combination of pressure and electrical attractive force, the roller very efficiently transfers toner from the drum to the paper. To further improve the overall effectiveness of the attracter roller, a humidity compensation system is provided and is operative to automatically adjust the bias voltage of the roller, and thus the electrical toner attraction force thereof, in response to sensed humidity variations within the machine housing.
