    Abstract: A surge protection cartridge is disclosed which is compact, allows for surge protection devices to be inserted and removed by hand, is rugged, is easy to use and is economical. The cartridge includes a plastic housing, a series of tip and ring terminals mounted to the housing, a ground bar mounted within the housing, a guide strip frictionally mounted to the housing, two attachment clips and a cover. The guide strip is partitioned and includes surge protection device pads with three holes and funnel-like bordering surfaces around each hole to facilitate installation of the devices. The side walls of the housing are shortened to allow hand installation and removal of devices and the cover is used to protect the devices and maintain their connection even when the cartridge is roughly handled. The attachment clips connect to the housing, to a standard telecommunication frame and to a modular terminal block assembly.

By providing this logical pipe between the input data record source and the processing programs, the present invention eliminates the need for intermediate storage files on disk memory, and also greatly increases the processing efficiency of the system. The system also includes a summarization program that is capable of directly summarizing the virtual data records piped into it from the data viewer program, thus eliminating the need for a time-consuming sorting process prior to summarization.

    Abstract: The present invention is a method for operating a computer system to minimize the number of disk storage access operations used in creating an inverted database. This method divides a database into several smaller subdatabases. The documents of the subdatabases are decomposed into subdocuments. A postings list for each subdatabase is then created in which all the terms for the subdatabase are associated with the identity of each subdocument of the subdatabase in which the terms occur. The resulting postings lists for the subdatabases are then merged. The merge process sorts the postings of the subdatabases and merges common terms. The non-common terms are merged after the common terms. The process of sorting the postings list and then merging the common terms followed by the non-common terms minimizes the number of disk storage access operations required for creating the inverted database from a series of inverted subdatabases.

As the bar rolls across to the opposite side, the tarp is unrolled to cover the container opening, and the constant force springs wind into a coil around the reel.
