Abstract: A sump pump has a float operated alarm switch mounted on the top end of the pump housing for activating an alarm when water rises above a normal operating level. The alarm is in a remote enclosure with the pump power plug so that plugging in the unit automatically positions the alarm in a desirable location to be heard. The power cord and alarm switch wire extend through a flexible corrugated tube that is attached to the pump housing and the alarm enclosure by strain relief connections that do not compressively crush the tube.

Abstract: A phase locked loop is provided that includes a phase detector, an integrator, a voltage controlled oscillator and a feedback circuit. The phase detector is coupled to a reference clock signal and a feedback signal, and generates positive and negative phase detection signals that correspond to the phase difference between the reference clock signal and the feedback signal. The integrator is coupled to the positive and negative phase detection signals, and converts the positive and negative phase detection signals into an output voltage that is proportional to the phase difference between the reference clock signal and the feedback signal. The voltage controlled oscillator is coupled to the output voltage of the integrator, and generates a local oscillator signal with an oscillation frequency that is proportional to the output voltage of the integrator. The feedback circuit is coupled to the local oscillator signal, and shifts the phase of the local oscillator signal to generate the feedback signal.
Abstract: A novel approach for filtering documents involves the use of delivery ratio threshold setting technique to set an initial profile score threshold and the use of beta-gamma regulation for dynamic threshold updating. A group of documents is scored pursuant to a user profile. The score for each document is indicative of the relevance of the corresponding document to the user profile. The score can be compared with a profile score threshold to decide if the document should be accepted or rejected. According to one aspect of the invention, the initial threshold is set to a score threshold that approximates an expected ratio of acceptable documents calibrated with respect to a set of reference documents. According to another aspect of the invention, the score threshold can be updated based on the accumulated example documents, user's relevance judgment, and the user's utility function. The accumulated example documents are first scored against a profile and a ranked list of scored documents is obtained.
Abstract: A PLL-based frequency synthesizer is provided that includes a phase detector, a loop filter, a VCO, a sampler and filter system, and a frequency divider. This architecture reduces the high division ratio (N) necessary in a classical PLL-based frequency synthesizer while maintaining low phase-noise. This is achieved through sub-sampling the VCO output signal in the feedback path. The sampler is placed in the feedback loop following the VCO and is clocked at a low frequency (sub-sampling). The output of the sampler is the beat frequency between the VCO frequency and the sampling clock (in addition to harmonics that are filtered-out by a low-pass filter (LPF)). The LPF in the feedback loop attenuates any tones resulting from the sampling operation. A frequency divider is then used to bring down the feedback signal to the frequency of the phase detector input.
Abstract: SAW devices such as interdigital transducers (IDTs) have been widely used in RADAR applications and as filters. An IDT produces a SAW when excited by a single electrical pulse and can be fabricated to embody a code, which code provides for a passive autocorrelation of a SAW input to the IDT and thereby lends itself to further application as a signal generator in a communication device. However, conventional SAW expanders and compressors typically have insertion losses greater than 20 dB, which can have a profound effect on an RF link budget in a communication system. Insertion losses are drastically reduced by using a single phase unidirectional transducer (SPUDT-type) instead of a conventional IDT as a SAW expander/compressor. A SPUDT-type reflects SAW components which are lost in conventional IDT designs so that a stronger SAW is directed toward a transmission element. In a receiver, a SPUDT-type directs a stronger SAW toward a compressor IDT.
Abstract: A data transmission pedestal housing having a service line passage is disclosed. The passage is structured to have a gap allowing service lines to pass into and out of the service line passage. An extruded gap closure element is provided for sliding engagement with walls of the passage so as to close and open the gap. When the gap is opened, a service line may pass out of the passage through the gap thereby allowing the pedestal housing to be removed and replaced without disconnecting the service lines from terminal blocks that connect to a cable.

Abstract: A system and method for pushing information from a host system to a mobile data communication device upon sensing a triggering event is disclosed. A redirector program operating at the host system enables a user to continuously redirect certain user-selected data items from the host system to the user's mobile data communication device upon detecting that one or more user-defined triggering events has occurred. The redirector program operates in connection with event generating applications and repackaging systems at the host system to configure and detect a particular user-defined event, and then to repackage the user-selected data items in an electronic wrapper prior to pushing the data items to the mobile device.
Abstract: A system and method for pushing information, such as calendar event messages, from a host system to a mobile data communication device upon sensing a triggering event is disclosed. A redirector program operating at the host system enables a user to continuously redirect calendar event messages, such as meeting reminders and notices, from the host system to the user's mobile data communication device upon detecting that one or more user-defined triggering events has occurred. The redirector program operates in connection with event generating applications and repackaging systems at the host system to configure and detect a particular user-defined event, and then to repackage the calendar event messages in an electronic wrapper prior to pushing the data items to the mobile device. An optimized data structure for storing the calendar event messages is also provided.

Abstract: A method of transmitting TV signals and bidirectional telephone communication signals on a single optical fiber, existing telephone twisted pair infrastructure, and existing coaxial cable infrastructure. In addition to allowing the downstream transmission of television channels as well as bidirectional telephone communication, the single optical fibers also provides for the upstream travel of television related signals while requiring minimal changes of the existing infrastructure.
Abstract: A microwave filter has a set of irises to couple cavities within the filter. A trifurcated iris comprises a central iris and a pair of peripheral irises. The peripheral irises are configured and oriented to couple a primary mode having a magnetic field in the axial direction of a filter cavity. The central iris is configured and oriented to couple a secondary mode having a magnetic field in the azimuthal direction of the filter cavity. The configuration of the trifurcated iris is further oriented to minimize the influence of higher order signals such as the TE21X mode. The peripheral iris are oriented at null points of the primary TE21X mode and the central iris is also located at a null point. An input and an output iris are configured to receive electromagnetic energy in the axial direction of the filter. The input and output irises are oriented to minimize signals in the TE21X secondary mode and any TM modes.

Abstract: A process for manufacturing fuel cell plates including a continuous press, a sifter, a leveler and rollers for removing air from resin impregnated graphite. The sifted material is deposited on a heated lower press belt having an embossing pattern. The material is leveled to a predetermined height and squeezed to remove air. An upper belt, also having an embossing pattern, contacts the material and heat and pressure are applied in a reaction zone for a predetermined time period. The finished product is a relatively low cost fuel cell plate.
Abstract: An extension housing for a data transmission pedestal is disclosed. The extension has an upper portion essentially identical to the upper portion of a base of a pedestal and a lower portion essentially identical to the lower portion of a cover section of a pedestal. The extension is simple and inexpensive and can be used singly or in multiple quantities depending upon the pedestal height to be achieved. The use of extensions alleviates inventory of different size pedestals and allows quick and easy height adjustments in the field.
