  • Patent number: 7647868
Abstract: A printing plate is produced having at least one edge which has been cut so that it is parallel to a line of delimitation of the type area of the plate. The printing plate is fed to an impression cylinder of a printing press, in an axial direction of the impression cylinder by use of a plate feeding and alignment device. During the process of feeding the printing plate to the impression cylinder, the at least one edge of the plate, which was cut parallel to the type line of determination, is guided against at least one stop.

  • Patent number: 7634964
Abstract: A quantity of ink is dosed in an inking system of a printing machine, which inking system is provided with at least one dosing device that can be used to modify the quantity of ink which is transferred by the inking system. The dosing device can be adjusted by the use of an adjusting element to modify the quantity of ink that is to be transferred. A modification of the quantity of ink is defined by an adjustment of the adjusting element. The dosing device is adjusted in accordance with a pre-determined correlation between the amount of the adjustment of the adjusting device and the current state of the dosing device. The adjustment of the dosing device is carried out in accordance with the correlation in such a way that a relation between the modification of the quantity of ink caused by the adjustment of the dosing device, and the ink quantity transferred by the dosing device remains essentially constant.

  • Patent number: 7635830
Abstract: An optical system is usable for forming an illuminated pattern on the surface of a material which is being displaced with respect to that illuminated pattern. An illuminating device, which includes several light sources that are driven in a pulsed manner by a control unit, emits light that is used to form the illuminated pattern. A detection device detects the light emitted by the illuminating device. The control unit controls one individual light source, or a group of light sources. An operating time of the light source or sources is synchronized with an exposure time of the detection device. The operating time of the light source is shorter than the exposure time of the detection device.

  • Patent number: 7631598
Abstract: A printing machine utilizes several printing couples to produce at least one printed image on a printed material. Compensation for at least one of a longitudinal elongation and a transverse elongation of the printed material is accomplished. An anticipated elongation of the printed material is compensated for by matching of a printed image placement, with respect to length, width or position, with an imaging system generating the printed image placement on a printing form.

  • Patent number: 7626890
Abstract: A hybrid drive (HD) multi-mode pipe projector (MMPP) for use in underwater acoustic applications is provided. The HD MMPP is formed with an inner magnetostrictive drive motor nested within an outer drive motor. The inner motor is surrounded by a magnetic field generating coil winding. Preferably the inner drive motor is a Terfenol-D motor and the outer drive motor is a radially-poled piezoceramic drive motor. This nested configuration provides increased bandwidth and low-frequency extension to the MMPP design.

  • Patent number: 7620265
Abstract: A methodology for forming a composite color image fusion from a set of N gray level images takes advantage of the natural decomposition of color spaces into 2-D chromaticity planes and 1-D intensity. This is applied to the color fusion of thermal infrared and reflective domain (e.g., visible) images whereby chromaticity representation of this fusion is invariant to changes in reflective illumination.

  • Patent number: 7614343
Abstract: At least one of a transverse elongation and a longitudinal elongation of a printing material are compensated for. The printing material passes through serially arranged printing couples in a printing press. A component of the transverse elongation is compensated for after passage of the printing material through a first printing couple and before its entry into a second printing couple. This can be accomplished by the use of a framing controller. Alternatively, this transverse elongation can be compensated for by the displacement of at least one printing form which is situated on a subsequent printing couple. The printing form can be displaced transverse to a production direction of the printing material, relative to a reference mark on the printing material. An elongation of the printing material, which is known at the time of image generation on a printing form of a subsequent printing couple can be compensated for by proper configuration or positioning of the printed image on the printing form.

  • Patent number: 7609878
Abstract: Color deviations of images are analyzed using a sensor. The received image sensor signal is analyzed pixel by pixel. An image sensor signal is produced for each color channel from a plurality of color channels. An image sensor signal from a first channel, and one from a second channel, are combined. An output signal of a first color contrast channel is generated. Now an image sensor signal from a third channel is combined with the ones from the first and second image sensors. An output signal of a second color contrast channel is generated. The outputs of these color contrast channels are classified.

  • Patent number: 7606277
Abstract: A photonic device incorporate an epitaxial structure having an active region, and which includes a wet etch stop layer above, but close to, the active region. An etched-facet ridge laser is fabricated on the epitaxial structure by dry etching followed by wet etching. The dry etch is designed to stop before reading the depth needed to form the ridge. The wet etch completes the formation of the ridge and stops at the wet etch stop layer.

  • Patent number: 7596847
Abstract: Improved sucker rod joints for down hole petroleum pumping applications are provided within the form factor of standard API sucker rods, such that existing inventory in suitable condition is fully usable in more demanding applications. The pin ends are selected or processed such as to provide preselected axial distance between a flat pin end and at least one reference surface, such as a threaded region or reference shoulder or both. The coupler is dimensioned such that the pin ends are in abutment either with each other or with opposite sides of an intervening torque washer in the central region, when the connection is made to a selected level of thread engagement. Furthermore, the engagement is such as to put the pin ends in compression and the coextensive length of coupler in tension. This increases frictional restraints and locks the elements together to resist fatigue failure upon cycling and to insure together with an anaerobic adhesive sealant, against back threading.

  • Patent number: 7564809
Abstract: An event synchronization protocol called time-based synchronization (TBS) is employed to control operation of a network simulation. In TBS, processors in the simulated network execute events based on comparisons between timestamps for each event and a value generated by a time tracking device in the processor. In this manner, event execution is not dependent on other processes in the network and the simulation can actually be carried out at speeds faster than real time. A multiprocessor network is specially designed to execute TBS-based simulations.
