Abstract: A construction layout marking device includes a reel housing that uses a reel case to rotatably support a reel hub. A pair of spaced, parallel measuring tapes are secured, at inner ends, to the reel hub and can be coiled inside the reel case by rotation of the reel hub. A plurality of marking templates are attached to the spaced measuring tapes, at specified intervals. These marking templates can impart a line pattern to a surface above which they are placed by deployment out of the reel case. The line patterns are usable to position construction elements such as wall studs. The measuring tapes and their attached marking templates can be wound back into the reel case of the reel housing after use.
Abstract: A printing machine is provided with a control panel for use in the printing machine's control. The control panel is located on one side of the printing machine which includes at least one printing unit which has at least one pair of cylinder. This at least one pair of cylinders are mechanically coupled to each other by a drive connection and are driven for rotation by a drive motor that is independent of other printing units. This drive motor and the drive connection are located on the control panel side of the printing unit.

Abstract: A printing unit is comprised of at least two pairs of two cylinders each. The two cylinders in each pair are a transfer cylinder and a forme cylinder. The transfer cylinder and the forme cylinder are each embodied with a width sufficient for printing six newspaper pages arranged axially next to each other. The transfer cylinder of each pair cooperates with a counter-pressure cylinder, that is embodied as a satellite cylinder to form a printing head in a so-called print-in-place arrangement.

Abstract: An article of jewelry supports a plurality of primary stones in a linear mounting array and which is bordered on both sides by accent stones. The girdles of the primary stones and of the accent stones are positioned close to each other with the accent stone girdles being above the primary stone girdles. A method of making the article of jewelry includes the use of a lost wax casting process followed by hand-setting of the accent stones and an application of a highly reflective coating, such as rhodium to surfaces that are adjacent the areas of congruence of the primary and accent stones. The resultant piece of jewelry presents the appearance of floating or unsupported primary stones.
Abstract: A process for fabricating lasers capable of emitting blue light wherein a GaN wafer is etched to form laser waveguides and mirrors using a temperature of over 500° C. and an ion beam in excess of 500 V in CAIBE, and wherein said laser waveguide has inwardly angled sidewalls.
Abstract: Sample mounts (10) for mounting microcrystals of biological macromolecules for X-ray crystallography are prepared by using patterned thin polyimide films (12) that have curvature imparted thereto, for example, by being attached to a curved outer surface of a small metal rod (16). The patterned film (12) preferably includes a tip end (24) for holding a crystal. Preferably, a small sample aperture is disposed in the film for reception of the crystal. A second, larger aperture can also be provided that is connected to the sample aperture by a drainage channel, allowing removal of excess liquid and easier manipulation in viscous solutions. The curvature imparted to the film (12) increases the film's rigidity and allows a convenient scoop-like action for retrieving crystals. The polyimide contributes minimally to background and absorption, and can be treated to obtain desired hydrophobicity or hydrophilicity.

Abstract: A technique for generating variable pulse delays uses one or more nonlinear-optical processes such as cross-phase modulation, cross-gain modulation, self-phase modulation, four-wave mixing or parametric mixing, combined with group-velocity dispersion. The delay is controllable by changing the wavelength and/or power of a control laser. The delay is generated by introducing a controllable wavelength shift to a pulse of light, propagating the pulse through a material or an optical component that generates a wavelength dependent time delay, and wavelength shifting again to return the pulse to its original wavelength.

The blankets are drawn off the cylinder in a longitudinal direction and are stored in the device at an angle of inclination of not more than 15? relative to the horizontal. The second blanket to be drawn off is stored below the previously drawn-off blanket at a distance that is vertical along its length.

Abstract: An electronic switching unit for use with a product comprising and/or connected to a power source and at least one energy consuming load comprises a microchip, connected to a user interface switch structure. The microchip is configured to implement at least one function selected from the group consisting of an automatic delayed deactivation of a function a predetermined period after the function was activated in response to an activation signal from the switch structure; a visible indicator, and a mode selection function. The switch structure comprises a body at least a part of which is constructed from a compressible material which is deformed under pressure, so that it becomes thinner in a direction in which the pressure is exerted and in becoming thinner affects the operation of the switch structure.
Abstract: A cylinder is usable for processing flat material and includes a cylindrical body, which can be rotated about a cylinder axis, and at least one group of a plurality of tools. These tools perform a working movement in relation to the cylindrical body and are coupled to first and second control levers. A fixed cam plate is followed by the first control lever of each tool. A rotating cover disk is followed by the second control lever of each tool. The cover disk comprises a plurality of congruent sectors each having at least one section with a first radius which allows that tool to accomplish its working movement. The cover disk sectors each also have at least one section with a second radius which blocks the working movement of the tool.
Abstract: A printing group of a rotary printing press includes at least one forme cylinder and at least one transfer cylinder. The forme cylinder has at least two printing forme end channels. These two channels are spaced circumferentially. At least one of these forme cylinder end receiving channels rolls off against a channel in the transfer cylinder. One of the forme cylinder end receiving channels is at least partially covered by a printing forme carried by the forme cylinder.
Abstract: Transfer of printing ink is adjusted using a first roller in an inking unit of a printing machine, which transfers ink to a forme cylinder. A temperature control unit enables an outer surface of the first roller to reach a required temperature and/or to enable an outer surface of the forme cylinder to reach the required temperature. That temperature control unit can be either controlled or regulated by an adjusting device. Specific curves or reference points for an interrelationship between a production speed of a printing machine and the respective required temperature on the outer surface of the forme cylinder, or on the outer surface of the first roller are stored in a storage unit of the adjusting device for various printing inks or ink types.
Abstract: A device is used for at least one of treating and conveying a strip of material in one of a treating and processing machine. The device includes at least one strip-treating tool which is embodied in the form of a folding cone, and one strip-treating tool which is provided as a knife. The knife and the folding cone are both transversely displaceable in the direction of travel of the strip of material by the operation of a regulating element.
Abstract: At least one register and an ink density are controlled in a printing machine having at least one printing unit which includes a forme cylinder, a transfer cylinder, and a counter-pressure cylinder. An image sensor records an image from a print substrate, which is imprinted with ink, inside the printing unit, and sends data correlated to that image to an evaluation unit. The data for the last printed image is compared with prior data and in response, the evaluation unit generates a command that is directed to an actuator for controlling the supply of ink. The image sensor is oriented towards the print substrate and detects the entire width of the printed substrate, which width is transverse to a direction of substrate conveyance. The evaluation unit generates the actuating command to control the supply of ink based on data from the image sensor and taken over the entire width of the substrate. The evaluation unit also controls register, based on this data.

Abstract: A printing machine includes at least one printing group, one folder and at least one turn-and-mix stage that supplies the printed web output from the printing group to the folder. A web path from the printing group to the folder, when projected into a horizontal plane, is bent or deviates in the area of the turn-and-mix stage. The turn-and-mix stage or superstructure, includes a horizontal cutting device at an input side, for use in cutting the web into at least two partial webs. At least two horizontally displaceable turning bars are provided, and the partial webs pass around these turning bars.
