  • Patent number: 7513195
Abstract: A printing machine includes at least one printing group, one folder and at least one turn-and-mix stage that supplies the printed web output from the printing group to the folder. A web path from the printing group to the folder, when projected into a horizontal plane, is bent or deviates in the area of the turn-and-mix stage. The turn-and-mix stage or superstructure, includes a horizontal cutting device at an input side, for use in cutting the web into at least two partial webs. At least two horizontally displaceable turning bars are provided, and the partial webs pass around these turning bars.

  • Patent number: 7510219
Abstract: An interconnection for oil field tubular goods operates in a self sealing manner in response to internal pressures which might otherwise cause leakage through couplings or joints. Each coupling sleeve includes an interior fulcrum ring fitted between the nose ends of the tubing or casing, and centrally engaging a fulcrum seating zone centered in the sleeve. Internal pressures tend to bend the ends of the fulcrum ring outwardly toward clearance or relief spans on each side of the fulcrum zone. This deflection increases the contact force and enhances the metal-to-metal seal between the end faces of the fulcrum ring and the pin end faces.

  • Patent number: 7510030
Abstract: A pair of elongated crossed coils is deployed in a first borehole and an instrument containing magnetic field sensors is deployed in a second borehole. The crossed coils are energized in quadrature by AC currents producing a rotating, elliptically polarized magnetic field at the second borehole. Mathematical analysis of the magnetic field sensor readings determines the location of the second borehole relative to the first. Both the distance and the rotational direction to the second borehole are determined as a function of depth of the sensors relative to that of the pair of crossed coils. Twisting of the long coil in the borehole is evaluated and the relative distance between the boreholes and the corrections needed due to such twisting are determined.

  • Patent number: 7506653
Abstract: The hair clip comprises two combs and at least one elastic member to bias the teeth of the combs toward each other in overlapping relationship. The teeth of the combs are similar and are at least slightly wider than the spaces between the teeth. In use, the combs may be twisted relatively to each other while inserting them into engagement, such that some of the teeth of one comb overlay and others underlay the teeth of the other combs so as to clamp hair between the two combs. Preferably the teeth are oval or elliptical in cross-section, such that they interfit partially with the teeth with which they are engaged.

  • Patent number: 7499151
Abstract: A distributed Brillouin sensor system is provided. The system has two distributed feedback (DFB) lasers, which are locked at the Brillouin frequency of the optical fiber through offset locking method by coupler splitting into two parts. The split parts are sent to two photodiodes, the outputs of which are sent to a mixer. A PID controller means follows the mixer and a current controller follows the PID controller. The lasers have a wavelength of 1550 nm. The PID controller locks the frequency difference. An optical delay line is used to produce the frequency tuning of the two DFB lasers around the Brillouin frequency of the optical fibers. The lock-in amplifier is used to keep the DC level of the optical modulator at minimum.

  • Patent number: 7484458
Abstract: A printing group of a printing machine is comprised of a pair of cylinders each having a circumference that corresponds essentially to a length of a section of a side to be printed. The effective generated surface of at least one of the cylinders comprises, at the most, one break in the circumferential direction. The surface forms, in the longitudinal direction, a plurality of adjacently arranged breaks which, when viewed in the circumferential direction, are arranged in a staggered manner with respect to each other.

  • Patent number: 7483635
Abstract: A method and apparatus for generating a multi-wavelength pulse train use a technique referred to as time-lens compression. The time-lens is formed of a phase modulator in series with a dispersion element. In addition to pulse compression, this time-lens simultaneously displaces the pulses according to their center wavelengths, resulting in a temporally evenly spaced multi-wavelength pulse train. An aberration correction technique, based on the temporal analog of a spatial correction lens, can also be employed improve the quality of the compressed pulses. Through use of CW DFB lasers and electrooptic phase modulators, the all-fiber system allows complete tunability of temporal spacing, spectral profile and repetition rate.

  • Patent number: 7477294
Abstract: The image data of a camera system is corrected. The camera system includes a color camera which supplies three output signals to three separate color channels, in the form of output signal vectors. The output signal vectors, the coefficients of which represent the output signals supplied by the color camera to the three color channels in a specific position lying in the range of observation, are multiplied by a correction matrix, particularly a square one. The corrected output signal vectors are then processed further in the camera system.

  • Patent number: 7475634
Abstract: A printing press is comprised of at least one printing cylinder. A displaceable inking unit and a displaceable plate changing device can alternatingly be placed against the printing cylinder or can be moved out of contact with it. The inking unit and the plate changing device are coupled together so that their respective displacements are accomplished by a common drive. The two move in opposite directions with respect to the printing cylinder and may be connected together. Alternatively, each may have its own drive, with the two drives being coupled together by a common controller.

  • Patent number: 7464645
Abstract: A printing machine has at least one machine element which can be adjusted by the use of a setting element. An adjustment of the one machine element has an effect on the quality of the printing performed by the printing machine. An optical detection device, which includes a sensor that is oriented toward the surface of a material which is being printed, detects the quality of the printing. A controlling device receives data from the optical sensor and adjusts, together with the setting element, the at least one machine element based on a difference between a quality of the printing which has been specified as a set value and the quality of the printing detected as an actual value by the optical detection device. This adjustment is done to manage the differences between the set value and the actual value.

  • Patent number: 7451057
Abstract: A system and method detect freefall associated with an object that is spinning or tumbling as it falls. Two tri-axis accelerometers provide inputs to an algorithm that detects the freefall of a spinning object that would not otherwise be detected by a conventional freefall detection system, due to the centrifugal and centripetal forces being placed on the falling object as it spins. The system can be used to detect the freefall of portable devices with onboard memory or hard disk drives, allowing the devices to have time to park the read/write head and reduce the potential of losing data that can be damaged by impact. This freefall detection system may be applied to such portable devices as notebook computers, PDAs, MP3 players, digital cameras, mobile phones and even automobiles.

  • Patent number: 7449688
Abstract: A method for deconvolving far-field optical images beyond the diffraction limit includes the use of near-field optical and other scanned probe imaging data to provide powerful and new constraints for the deconvolution of far-field data sets. Near-field data, such as that which can be obtained from atomic force microscopy on a region of the far-field data set in an integrated and inter-digitate way, is used to produce resolutions beyond the diffraction limit of the lens that is being used. In the case of non-linear optical imaging or other microscopies, resolutions beyond that which is achievable with these microscopies can be obtained.
